------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATIONS FOR THE PATTERN: ------------------------------------------------------- RIDGE/GARTER STITCH (worked back and forth): Knit all rows. 1 ridge in height = Knit 2 rows. INCREASE TIP: All increases are worked from the right side! Increase 1 stitch by making 1 yarn over; on the next row purl the yarn over twisted to avoid a hole. ------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ------------------------------------------------------- SWEATER - SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE: The piece is worked back and forth in sections and sewn together to finish. FRONT PIECE: Cast on 56-60-64-68-72-76 stitches with circular needle size 9 mm = US 13 and 1 strand off white and 1 strand light ocean green (= 2 strands). Work 2 RIDGES – read description above. Then work stockinette stitch with 3 edge stitches in garter stitch on each side. REMEMBER THE KNITTING GAUGE! When the piece measures 12 cm = 4¾" cast on 1 stitch at the end of the next 2 rows (marks the split) = 58-62-66-70-74-78 stitches. Continue with stockinette stitch and 1 edge stitch in garter stitch on each side. When the piece measures 35-36-37-38-39-40 cm = 13¾"-14¼"-14½"-15"-15¼"-15¾" work garter stitch over the middle 6 stitches on the row, AT THE SAME TIME bind off 1 stitch at the beginning of the next 2 rows for the armholes = 56-60-64-68-72-76 stitches. Continue with 1 edge stitch in garter stitch in each side, stockinette stitch and garter stitch over the 6 stitches in the middle, until you have worked 2 ridges over the middle 6 stitches (last row worked from wrong side). Place the last 28-30-32-34-36-38 stitches (seen from the right side) on a thread for right front piece and work the left front piece over the first 28-30-32-34-36-38 stitches. LEFT FRONT PIECE: Start from the right side and work as follows: 1 edge stitch in garter stitch, stockinette stitch until there are 5 stitches left before the division for neck, knit 2 together = (1 stitch decreased), 3 stitches in garter stitch (= towards neck). Work back from the wrong side. Continue back and forth like this and decrease for the neck every row from the right side a total of 5-5-6-6-7-7 times = 23-25-26-28-29-31 stitches on shoulder. Continue working until the armhole measures approx. 16-17-18-19-20-21 cm = 6¼"-6¾"-7"-7½"-8"-8¼". Work 1 ridge over all stitches. Bind off – make sure the bind-off edge is not tight! The piece measures a total of 52-54-56-58-60-62 cm = 20½"-21¼"-22"-22¾"-23⅝"-24⅜". RIGHT FRONT PIECE: Place the stitches from the thread back on circular needle size 9 mm = US 13. Start from the right side and work as follows: 3 stitches in garter stitch (= from neck), slip 1 stitch as if to knit, knit 1 and pass the slipped stitch over (= 1 stitch decreased), work stockinette stitch until there is 1 stitch left and 1 edge stitch in garter stitch. Continue back and forth like this and decrease to neck on every row from the right side a total of 5-5-6-6-7-7 times = 23-25-26-28-29-31 stitches on shoulder. Continue working until the armhole measures approx. 16-17-18-19-20-21 cm = 6¼"-6¾"-7"-7½"-8"-8¼" – adjust to match left front piece. Work 1 ridge over all stitches. Bind off – make sure the bind-off edge is not tight! The piece measures a total of 52-54-56-58-60-62 cm = 20½"-21¼"-22"-22¾"-23⅝"-24⅜". BACK PIECE: Cast on 56-60-64-68-72-76 stitches with circular needle size 9 mm = US 13 and 1 strand off white and 1 strand light ocean green (= 2 strands). Work 2 ridges. Then work stockinette stitch with 3 edge stitches in garter stitch on each side. When the piece measures 12 cm = 4¾" cast on 1 stitch at the end of the next 2 rows (marks the split) = 58-62-66-70-74-78 stitches. Continue with stockinette stitch and 1 edge stitch in garter stitch on each side. When the piece measures 35-36-37-38-39-40 cm = 13¾"-14¼"-14½"-15"-15¼"-15¾" bind off 1 stitch at the beginning of the next 2 rows for the armholes = 56-60-64-68-72-76 stitches. Continue with stockinette stitch and 1 edge stitch in garter stitch on each side until the piece measures 48-50-52-54-56-58 cm = 19"-19¾"-20½"-21¼"-22"-22¾". Now work the next row as follows – from the right side: Work as before over the first 20-22-23-25-26-28 stitches, garter stitch over the next 16-16-18-18-20-20 stitches, work as before over the next 20-22-23-25-26-28 stitches. Continue like this until you have worked 2 ridges over the middle 16-16-18-18-20-20 stitches. On the next row bind off the middle 10-10-12-12-14-14 stitches for neck and each shoulder is finished separately. The shoulders are worked in stockinette stitch with 1 edge stitch in garter stitch towards the armhole and 3 stitches in garter stitch towards the neck. When the piece measures 51-53-55-57-59-61 cm = 20"-21"-21⅝"-22½"-23¼"-24" work 1 ridge over all stitches – adjust to match the front piece. Bind off – make sure the bind-off edge is not tight! Work the other shoulder in the same way. SLEEVE: Cast on 30-30-32-32-34-34 stitches with circular needle size 9 mm = US 13 and 1 strand off white and 1 strand light ocean green (= 2 strands). Work 2 ridges. Then work stockinette stitch with 1 edge stitch in garter stitch on each side. When the piece measures 5-5-5-4-4-4 cm = 2"-2"-2"-1½"-1½"-1 172" increase 1 stitch on each side – read INCREASE TIP. Increase like this approx. every 7-8-8-6-6-4 cm = 2¾"-3⅛"-3⅛"-2⅜"-2⅜"-1½" a total of 2-3-3-4-4-5 times = 34-36-38-40-42-44 stitches. When the piece measures 32-31-30-29-28-27 cm = 12½"-12¼"-11¾"-11⅜"-11"-10⅝" (shorter measurements in larger sizes due to wider shoulders) bind off - but make sure the bind-off edge is not tight! Work the other sleeve in the same way. ASSEMBLY: Sew shoulder seams inside the bind-off edges. Sew sleeves to body. Sew sleeve and side seam in one go as far as the split (where you cast on a new stitch). Repeat on the other side. Cut and fasten strands. |
