Pattern 64-18, small. I’m on the sleeve ready to start the colorwork. I have 80 st. I’m confused with the line, “knit the increased sts into the pattern as you go.” There is no indication of increases. How many? Where? When. How does the 92 stitch pattern fit into 80 sts? Stitch counts along the decrease for cap of sleeve would be helpful. I’m at a loss here. Your help is much appreciated.\r\n\r\nTina maher

Hallo.

Pattern: See chart (1 chart = 1 repeat). The pattern is seen from the right side and is knit entirely in stockinette stitch. Body: Cast on 232-256-278 sts on smaller circular needles with natural. Knit Rib for 8 cm [3-⅛"] but keep 1 st at each side (center front) in garter st throughout. Change to larger circular needles and stockinette st. When the work measures 31-33-34 cm [12.25" - 13" - 13-⅜"], knit Pattern 1 – start at the arrow. After Pattern 1, the work measures approx. 39-41-42 cm [15.25" - 16-⅛" - 16.5"]. Continue with flint and stockinette st and at the same time, on the next row, knit as follows: 55-61-67 sts for the front, bind off 6 sts for armhole, 110-122-132 sts for the back, bind off 6 sts for armhole, 55-61-67 sts for the front. Knit the rest of each part separately. Right Front: = 55-61-67 sts. Bind off for armhole every other row: 3 sts 1-1-2 times, 2 sts 3-4-5 times, 1 st 2-5-4 times = 44-45-47 sts. When the work measures 51-53-55 cm [20" - 20-⅞" - 21-⅝"], bind off 11-12-14 sts at the center front for the neck. Bind off when the work measures 58-60-62 cm [22-⅞" - 23-⅝" - 24-⅜"] Left Front: Knit like the right but reverse all shaping. Back: = 110-122-132 sts. Bind off for armholes every other row: 3 sts 1-1-2 times, 2 sts 3-4-5 times, 1 st 2-5-4 times = 88-90-92 sts. When the work measures 57-59-61 cm [22.5" - 23.25" - 24"], bind off the center 32-34-36 sts for the neck. Bind off 2 sts at each neck edge on the next row = 26-26-26 sts remain on each shoulder. Bind off when the work measures 58-60-62 cm [22-⅞" - 23-⅝" - 24-⅜"] Sleeve: Cast on 52-56-58 sts on smaller double pointed needles with natural; join and place a marker at the join. Knit Rib for 7 cm [2.75"]. Change to larger double pointed needles and stockinette st. Inc 1 st each side of marker 14-13-14 times every 9-9-8 rows = 80-82-86 sts. When the work measures 42-40-38 cm [16.5" - 15.75" - 14-⅞"], knit Pattern 1 - start at the arrow - knit the increased sts into the pattern as you go along. When the work measures 50-48-46 cm [19.75" - 18-⅞" - 18-⅛"], bind off 3 sts each side of marker and knit the rest back and forth on the needles. Bind off at each side for sleeve cap every other row: 3 sts 1-1-0 times, 2 sts 3-2-3 times, 1 st 3-8-11 times, 2 sts 3-2-3 times, 3 sts 2-2-1 times. Bind off; the work measures 59-59-59 cm [23.25"]. Assembly: Sew the shoulder seams. Front edge: Pick up approx. 120-132 sts along the left front edge inside 1 edge st on smaller circular needles - knit the lower 35-37-38 cm [13.75" - 14.5" - 14-⅞"] of the edge with natural and the upper 16-16-17 cm [6.25" - 6.25" - 6.75"] with flint (the color change follows the pattern). Knit Rib for 2 cm [0.75"], bind off. Repeat along the right front, but after 2 rows make 6 buttonholes evenly distributed (1 buttonhole = bind off 1 st, yo over the bound-off st on the next row). Place the top buttonhole approx. 7 cm [2.75"] from upper edge, and the lowest where the rib changes to stockinette st. Pick up approx. 90-100 sts around the neck and over the front edges on smaller double pointed needles with flint and knit Rib. After 1 cm [3/8"] make a buttonhole above the others on the right front edge. Bind off when the neck edge measures 2 cm [0.75"]. Sew in the sleeves and the buttons. |
