Have done my 5th M1 square and thought you would appreciate knowing that rows 44/46/48 have a stitch wrong. This repeat of right hand diamond cable has a white square instead of a black dot on the three wrong side rows. Cheers.

I am blown away by the help you provide and the speed of your replies. I now have one of all four squares done and can't wait to put them all together. This is such a beautiful throw. Thank you so much for sharing it. I am loving the wool too. It lovely to knit with. I was a bit anxious as used to NZ quality yarn, but this yarn is every bit as good. Cheers.

Thank you for answer re blocking. But have another concern. Square 2 is assembled in same verticle direction ^ as knitted but on the picture of the throw the ridges appear to run crossways < >. Can you tell me the pattern name as maybe I am reading the graph wrong. Mine looks like a fisherman's rib!

Dear Mrs McRobbie, on the picture you see the blanket sideways, ie the bottom of blanket (= bottom of diag) is on the left side and top of blanket (= top of diagram) is on the right side. Happy knitting!

Why is square one slightly longer by 1cm than squares 2,3,&4? Ihave successfully compled lefthanded version of square one after reversing sides and cables - looks gorgeous and like a righthander's! But worried than when I sew together square one will not match the other 3!!!
05.07.2015 - 01:45DROPS Design answered:
Dear Mrs McRobbie, this maybe due to the pattern, block each square separately to correct dimensions before sewing. Happy knitting!

Thank you for reply re size but have a real problem now i have my beautiful wool and needles to start. I am lefthanded with knitting a mirror image. I cant see the edges clearly and need to know what the RS looks like - stockingstitchx2 on the RS is what comes up on mine. Any suggestions for a leftie - i am reversing my knitting to Left to Right but not sure if I need to reverse cable front to cable back etc. appreciate help.
30.06.2015 - 15:37DROPS Design answered:
Dear Mrs McRobbie, 1st row in each square is worked from RS, then follow diagrams with diagram text, ie diagrams shows the pattern as it will be seen from RS (ex in M2: black dot: P st from RS, white square = K st from RS). The video below may help you to get how to work cables adjusting to your way of knitting. Happy knitting!

Is it possible to knit more sqares to make larger throw and still be able to kint border by picking up stitches? And can all the comments be provided in English so I can read them? Thank you.
29.06.2015 - 08:44DROPS Design answered:
Dear Mrs MCRobbie, for a larger blanket, you can work more squares adjusting number and square you like to, the edge will be then worked the same way along each side. Adjust yarn requirement too. To read all other comments you can use an online translator. Happy knitting!

Hei.

PATTERN: See diagram M.1 to M.4. Diagram shows the pattern from RS. GARTER ST (back and forth on needle): K all rows. -------------------------------------------------------- BLANKET: Each square worked back and forth on needle. Knit 5 of each type of square = a total of 20 squares. SQUARE 1: Cast on 38 sts on needle size 5 mm / US 8 with Nepal. K 1 row from RS and K 1 row from WS. Now K 1 row from RS, AT THE SAME TIME inc 12 sts evenly (do not inc on the 2 sts each side) = 50 sts. P 1 row from WS and continue in M.1. After 1 vertical repeat of M.1 K 1 row from RS, AT THE SAME TIME dec 12 sts evenly (do not dec on the 2 sts each side) = 38 sts. K 1 row from WS and K 1 row from RS. Now bind off from WS with K sts. SQUARE 2: Cast on 38 sts on needle size 5 mm / US 8 with Nepal. K 1 row from RS and K 1 row from WS. Now K 1 row from RS, AT THE SAME TIME inc 7 sts evenly (do not inc on the 2 sts each side) = 45 sts. P 1 row from WS and continue in M.2 until square measures approx 1 cm / ⅜" less than square 1. K 1 row from RS, AT THE SAME TIME dec 7 sts evenly (do not dec on the 2 sts each side) = 38 sts. K 1 row from WS and K 1 row from RS. Now bind off from WS with K sts. SQUARE 3: Cast on 38 sts on needle size 5 mm / US 8 with Nepal. K 1 row from RS, K 1 row from WS, K 1 row RS and P 1 row from WS. Now continue in M.3 with 1 garter st each side until square measures approx 1 cm / ⅜" less than square 1 (adjust to a half or full repeat). Now K 1 row from RS, K 1 row from WS, K 1 row RS and bind off from WS in K sts. SQUARE 4: Cast on 38 sts on needle size 5 mm / US 8 with Nepal. K 1 row from RS and K 1 row from WS. Now K 1 row from RS, AT THE SAME TIME inc 18 sts evenly (do not inc on the 2 sts each side) = 56 sts. P 1 row from WS and continue in M.4 until square measures approx 1 cm / ⅜" less than square 1 (adjust to after 3 rows after a cable). K 1 row from RS, AT THE SAME TIME dec 18 sts evenly (do not dec on the 2 sts each side) = 38 sts. K 1 row from WS and K 1 row from RS. Now bind off from WS with K sts. ASSEMBLY: Sew tog the squares as shown in Fig.1. Number indicates type of square and the arrow the knitting direction. Sew tog edge to edge in outer loops of sts to avoid a chunky seam. BORDER: Worked in garter st, i.e. K all rows. Pick up sts along one short side on circular needle size 5 mm / US 8 with Nepal. Pick up 1 st in each st (also pick up in transitions between squares). Work garter st back and forth on needle until edge measures approx 4 cm / 1½". Bind off. Knit a similar border along the other short side. Pick up sts in the same way along the long side, also pick up sts along the 8 cm / 3⅛" border on the short side, and work garter st back and forth on needle until border measures approx 4 cm / 1½". Bind off. Repeat along the other long side. |
