I am sorry drops but this pattern is giving me a hard time. It says I should start the deacreasing on round 20. And do a total of 12 deacrease (for the size I am knitting) rounds following the '' other and 3rd '' rounds alternatively. The M.1 chart is 48 rounds total. Since we start deacrasing on round 20, it means we gotta do 47 more rounds... this does not make any sense... It does not add up. And I had to go down to 3 and 4 mm needles this thing was SO big.... I am lost here.

Dear Mrs Coulombe, you decrease 1 stitch on each side of middle stitch mid on back piece from round 20 a total of 12 times, ie last decrease will be worked on round 47 and after diagram has been worked there are 38 sts left. Remember to check and keep same tension, ie 17 sts x 22 rows = 10 x 10 cm. Happy knitting!

Hi ! At the decreasing part for the 7 and a half size, what does OTHER stands for ? It says to decrase every other and 3rd round... I don't get it. Thank you !
20.02.2019 - 05:36DROPS Design answered:
Hi Melanie, Every other round means every 2nd round - so decrease 1 round, do not decrease the next round and decrease next round etc. Every 3rd round will be with 2 rounds in-between where you do not decrease. I hope this helps. Happy knitting!

Am I right to say that there is a light brown, vertical stripe all the way up the mid-back of this sock? How ugly!!
27.08.2018 - 10:19DROPS Design answered:
Dear Hetty, having a line, or a seam running up at the back of a sok or stocking has a long history, in fact stockings from several hundreds of years ago have them. I would not call them ugly, and they are the easiest way to avoid having jogs in your patterns where the rounds meet. Happy Knitting!

05.09.2012 - 11:09DROPS Design answered:
Du strikker jo sokkerne ovenfra (begynder med ribben). Saa strikker du mönstret som vist i opskriften og naar du saa tager sokkerne paa bliver mönstret vendt paa hovedet

DECREASING TIP: Dec 1 st each side of last st on round = mid back. Dec as follows before this st: K2 tog. Dec as follows after this st: K2 tog into back of loop. PATTERN: See diagram M.1 - diagram shows 1 pattern repeat. The entire pattern is worked in stockinette st. HEEL DECREASES: Row 1 (= RS): Work row until 5-6-6 sts remain, K2 tog into back of loop, turn piece. Row 2 (= WS): Work row until 5-6-6 sts remain, P2 tog, turn piece. Row 3: Work row until 4-5-5 sts remain, K2 tog into back of loop, turn piece. Row 4: Work row until 4-5-5 sts remain, P2 tog, turn piece. Continue dec like this with 1 less st before each dec until there are 8-8-10 sts on needle. -------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------------------------- SOCKS: Worked in the round on double pointed needles. Cast on 60-68-72 sts on double pointed needles size 4 mm / US 6 with pink. K 1 round. Insert a marker in last st on round = mid back. Change to light brown mix and continue in rib = K2/P2 until piece measures 10-11-12 cm / 4"-4⅜"-4¾". Now K 1 round, AT THE SAME TIME dec 10-6-10 sts evenly = 50-62-62 sts. Change to double pointed needles size 5 mm / US 8 and work next round as follows: 4-5-5 repeats of M.1 across the round, then work first st in M1 and work the last st on round (= mid back) in light brown mix. Continue in pattern like this. REMEMBER THE GAUGE! AT THE SAME TIME on round 20 in diagram dec 1 st each side of the light brown st mid back and continue as follows – SEE DECREASING TIP: SIZE 5/6½ (35/37): Repeat dec on every 3rd and 4th round alternately a total of 8 times = 34 sts. SIZE 7½/9 and 9½/10½ (38/40 and 41/43): Repeat dec on every other and 3rd round alternately a total of 12-10 times = 38-42 sts on round. ALL SIZES: After 1 vertical repeat of M.1 piece measures approx 33-34-35 cm / 13"-13⅜"-13¾". Now keep the first 8-9-10 sts on needle, slip the next 18-20-22 sts on a stitch holder (= mid upper foot) and keep the last 8-9-10 sts on needle = 16-18-20 sts on needle for heel. Work stockinette st with light brown mix back and forth on heel sts for 5-5.5-6 cm / 2"-2¼"-2⅜" – insert a marker in piece. Now work HEEL DECREASES – see above! After heel dec pick up 9-10-11 sts each side of heel and slip the 18-20-22 sts from stitch holder on upper foot back on needle = 44-48-54 sts. Insert a marker each side of the 18-20-22 sts on upper foot. Continue in light brown mix stockinette st, AT THE SAME TIME dec each side as follows: K tog the last 2 sts BEFORE first marker, and K tog into back of loop the first 2 sts AFTER second marker. Repeat the dec on every other round a total of 6-6-7 times = 32-36-40 sts. Continue until piece measures 18-20-22 cm / 7"-8"-8¾" from marker on heel (= approx 4-4-5 cm / 1½"-1½"-2" remain). Insert a marker each side with 16-18-20 sts on upper foot and under foot. Continue in stockinette st, AT THE SAME TIME dec for toes on each side of both markers as follows: Work round until 3 sts before marker: K2 tog, K2 (marker sits between these 2 sts), K2 tog into back of loop. Repeat the dec on every other round a total of 4-3-4 times and then on every round 1-3-3 times = 12 sts left on needle. On next round K2 tog all the way round = 6 sts. Cut the thread, pull it through remaining sts, tighten and fasten. |
