Dear Drop team, thanks for your clarification about the 5 sts inc on both sides. I watched the video but it still didn’t show how to knit those 5 sts (all in one colour or each a different colour like stripes)? In the video there were 7 sts so I’m a bit confused 😕 it’s my first time experience with steeking.

Dear Mrs Alsamarraie, always remember to follow the pattern, the videos are showing the technique only, so here you cast on 5 sts for armhole and you can work these stitches as the 7 sts in the video, alternately with one and the other color (the video was linked to show that these steek stitches were worked in vertical stripes). Happy knitting!

What do we do with the 5 sts increase for the armholes? It is said not to be included in pattern, but do we knit them just plain K with the main colour or how? I didn’t understand this point.

Dear Mrs Alsammarraie, you can work them with 2 colours (main+pattern colour) in stripes or alternately - see for example the front band stitches in this video. Happy knitting!

Bon tricot!

Pattern: See diagram M.1 to M.4. The diagram shows the pattern from the RS. Edge: 3 cm = 1⅛" stockinette st, P 1 round (= folding edge, measure piece from here), 3 cm = 1⅛" stockinette st. Body: The sweater is knitted in the round on circular needle and cut for armholes afterwards. Cast on 180-188-196 sts on circular needle size 2.5 mm = US 1,5 with red and work Edge. Change to circular needle size 4 mm = US 6 and continue in stockinette st, at the same time inc 40-52-56 sts evenly on first round = 228-240-252 sts. After 1 round work M.1 and then continue in red until piece measures 20-20-21 cm = 8"-8"-8¼". Remember the knitting gauge! Continue in pattern as follows: M.2 (beg by arrow and work pattern on front piece, beg by arrow again and work pattern on back piece), M.3 (beg by arrow and work pattern on front piece, beg by arrow again and work pattern on back piece), M.4 (beg by arrow and work pattern all the way round) and then complete piece in red. At the same time when piece measures 27-27-28 cm = 10⅝"-10⅝"-11" inc 5 sts each side (to be cut for armhole afterwards and not included in pattern). When piece measures 53-53-54 cm = 21"-21"-21¼" bind off the middle 40-40-40 sts mid front for neck and complete piece back and forth on needle. Dec to shape the neckline on every other row: 2 sts 1 time, 1 st 2 times. When piece measures 56-56-57 cm = 22"-22"-22½" bind off the middle 44-44-44 sts for neck mid back and bind off 2 sts on neckline on next row. Bind off remaining sts when piece measures 57-57-58 cm = 22½"-22½"-22¾". Sleeve: Cast on 44-48-48 sts on double pointed needles size 2.5 mm = US 1,5 with red and work Edge. Change to double pointed needles size 4 mm = US 6 and continue in stockinette st, at the same time inc 14-12-12 sts evenly on first round = 58-60-60 sts. After 1 round continue in pattern as follows (make sure to place a pattern repeat mid upper sleeve): M.1, red stockinette st until piece measures 24-23-22 cm = 9½"-9"-8¾", M.2, M.3 and then complete piece in red. At the same time after the Edge inc 2 sts mid under arm a total of 32-31-31 times on every *3rd and 4th * round alternately = 122-122-122 sts. When piece measures 50-49-48 cm = 19¾"-19¼"-19" work 2 cm = ¾" in reverse stockinette st (for sewing sleeve to body piece). Bind off Assembly: Insert a marking thread in the middle of the inc sts for armhole. Sew 2 seams on a sewing machine around the marking thread, 1st seam = ½ st from the MT, 2nd seam = ½ st from the 1st seam. Cut for armholes. Sew the shoulder seams. Pick up approx 110 sts round the neck on double pointed needles size 2.5 mm = US 1,5 with red and work 2 cm = ¾" stockinette st in the round, at the same time dec 4 sts evenly along neckline on back piece on first round. Change to purple, work 2 rounds stockinette st, P 1 round (= folding edge), 2 cm = ¾" stockinette st and bind off. Fold all edges double towards the WS and fasten. Set in sleeves as follows: sew the last row in stockinette st on sleeves to row after machine seam on armhole. Turn sweater inside out and fasten piece in reverse stockinette st on sleeve to body piece. |
