Dear Shirley, as you can calculate with the gauge, working 84 stitches according to the gauge in the pattern will give you the 44 cm needed in the final product. So it's correct. Happy knitting!

COASTERS: Gauge: 19 sts x 38 rows in garter st = approx. 10 x 10 cm. Coaster: Cast on 84 sts and knit 6 rows garter st – slip the 1st st every row. Knit the next row as follows (right side): sl 1, K 2, K 2 tog, yo, continue in garter st to last 5 sts, yo, sl 1, K 1, psso, K 3. There will be a hole at each side. Knit the row with holes every 4 rows, the remaining rows knit garter st. When the piece measures approx. 28 cm knit 6 rows garter st, then bind off all sts. GARTER STITCH TOWEL: Measurements: approx. 29 x 42 cm [11⅜" x 16.5"] Materials: DROPS PARIS from Garnstudio 150 gr nr 17, natural for one towel DROPS 4 mm [US 6] needles, or size needed to obtain correct gauge. Gauge: 19 sts x 38 rows in garter st = approx. 10 x 10 cm. Towel: Cast on 55 sts and knit 6 rows garter st – slip the 1st st of every row. CROCHETED POTHOLDER: Measurements: approx. 18 cm [7"] in diameter. Materials: DROPS PARIS from Garnstudio 100 gr nr 17, natural for 2 potholders DROPS 4 mm [US F] crochet hook, or size needed to obtain correct gauge. Crochet gauge: 16 sc x 16 rows = 10 x 10 cm. Crochet tips: The first sc of each row is replaced by ch 2. So that the potholder will be identical on both sides, turn the piece at the end of each row. Potholder: Ch 4, join into a ring with 1 sl st and turn. Read Crochet tips! Row 1: 6 sc in ring, end with 1 sl st in first st, turn the work. Row 2: 2 sc in each sc = 12 sc, finish with 1 sl st in first st, turn the work. Row 3: Alternate 1 sc and 2 sc in each sc, end with 1 sl st in first st = 18 sc, turn the work. Row 4: * 1 sc each in 2 sc, 2 sc in 3rd sc *, end with 1 sl st in first st = 24 sc, turn the work. Continue in the same manner, adding 1 sc between incs every row. Continue until potholder measures 16 cm in diameter. Crochet the next rows as follows: ch 3 (= 1 dc), * ch 1, skip over 1 sc and fasten with 1 dc *, repeat from * - *, inc in the same 6 places as before, end row with 1 sl st in the ch 3 at beginning of row. Turn the work and crochet 1 row with sc in every ch and dc from previous row. Then crochet 1 loop as follows: ch 8, fasten with 1 sl st in the next st. Crochet 10 sc in loop, cut yarn and fasten. |
