I have been knitting for about 50 years but really cannot follow this pattern! After the rib I really couldn't understand the instructions. What does " 4 (5) stocking sts, knit M1 (=16 sts" mean?

After posting my comment I decided to check out the pattern written in American English - and it all became clear! Much better instructions!

This pattern comes in three sizes, Small, Medium and Large, however it does not say what the measurements are for each size. Are you able to give me an idea of the measurements in each size? Thank you.

Dear Mrs Moore, these gloves are in 2 sizes: Small and Medium/Large; they should be approx. 19 cm and 21 cm around the hand. Happy knitting!

One of your patterns for gloves that after the right glove I should mirror the pattern to knit the other glove. How do I do that?!

When establish pattern: 4 (5) sts stockinette st, Pattern 1 (= 16 sts), 4 (5) sts stockinette st (= top of hand), 21 (23) sts stockinette st and then 1 st stockinette st for thumb (put a marker in this st)(= inside of hand).

Gauge: 23 sts x 32 rows in stockinette st = 10 x 10 cm. Rib: * K 1, P 1 *, repeat * - *. Pattern: The chart is showing the pattern from the right side. Right Glove: Cast on 54 (58) sts on double-pointed needles; join and place a marker at the join. Knit 1.5 cm seed st. Then knit 2 cm rib, decreasing 8 sts evenly distributed on the last row = 46 (50) sts. Establish pattern on the next row as follows: 4 (5) sts stockinette st, Pattern 1 (= 16 sts), 4 (5) sts stockinette st (these 24 (26) sts = top of hand), 1 st stockinette st for thumb (put a marker in this st), 21 (23) sts stockinette st (= inside of hand). Measure the work from here. Continue with pattern as established. When the piece measures 1 (2) cm inc 1 st at each side of thumb st with marker every 4 (3) rows a total of 5 (6) times = 56 (62) sts – knit the increased sts in stockinette st. After last inc put the 11 (13) thumb sts on a st holder. Cast on 1 new st over these sts on the next row= 46 (50) sts. Join and continue in pattern as established until piece measures 9 (10) cm. Put the 24 (26) top of hand sts on a st holder = st holder-1 and the 22 (24) inside of hand sts on a 2nd st holder = st holder-2. Little finger: Pick up 5 (5) sts from st holder-1 and 4 (5) sts from st holder-2 and cast on 2 new sts toward ring finger = 11 (12) sts. Join and knit stockinette st until finger measures approx. 5 (6) cm. Now K 2 tog around row, pull yarn through the remaining sts and fasten neatly. Put all sts from st holders back on needles; join and knit 3 rows in pattern as established as before. Then put sts back on st holder-1 and st holder-2. Ring finger: Pick up 6 (7) sts from st holder-1 and 6 (6) sts from st holder-2 and cast on 1 st between fingers at each side = 14 (15) sts. Join and knit stockinette st until finger measures approx. 6 (7) cm. Now K 2 tog around row, pull yarn through the remaining sts and fasten neatly. Middle finger: Pick up 7 (7) sts from st holder-1 and 6 (7) sts from st holder-2 and cast on 1 st between fingers each side = 15 (16) sts. Join and knit stockinette st until finger measures approx. 7 (8) cm, then K 2 tog around row, pull yarn through the remaining sts and fasten neatly. Index finger: Pick up the remaining 6 (7) sts from st holder-1 and 6 (6) sts from st holder-2 and cast on 2 new sts toward ring finger = 14 (15) sts. Join and knit stockinette st until finger measures approx. 6 (7) cm, K 2 tog around row and pull yarn through the remaining sts. Fasten neatly. Thumb: Put the 11 (13) thumb sts on needles and pick up 3 sts in back of these = 14 (16) sts. Join and knit stockinette st until thumb measures approx. 5 (6) cm, then K 2 tog around row, pull yarn through the remaining sts. Fasten neatly. Assembly: Sew a small st between all fingers so that there will not be a hole. Knit 2nd glove, reversing all shaping. |
