------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATIONS FOR THE PATTERN: ------------------------------------------------------- RAGLAN: Increase 1 stitch by making 1 yarn over, which is worked as follows on the next round: BEFORE RAGLAN-STITCHES (yarn over twists to the right): Slip the yarn-over purl-wise from the left to the right needle, place it back onto the left needle by inserting the left needle through the back (the yarn over is now the other way round). Knit through the stitch loop that lies on the front of the needle (avoids a hole). AFTER RAGLAN-STITCHES (yarn over twists to the left): Knit through the stitch loop that lies on the back of the needle (avoids a hole). SLEEVE TIP: When knitting up stitches under the sleeve, you can get a small hole in the transition between stitches on the body and sleeve. This hole can be closed by picking up the strand between 2 stitches and working this strand twisted together with the first stitch between body and sleeve. DECREASE TIP: Decrease 1 stitch on each side of the marker-thread as follows: Work until there are 3 stitches left before the marker-thread, knit 2 together, knit 2 (marker-thread sits between these 2 stitches), slip 1 stitch knit-wise, knit 1 and pass the slipped stitch over the knitted stitch (2 stitches decreased). ------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ------------------------------------------------------- SWEATER – SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE: The pattern uses both long and short needles; start with the length which fits the number of stitches and change when necessary. The neck and yoke are worked in the round with circular needle, top down and from mid-back, while increasing for raglan. When the yoke is finished, it is divided for the body and sleeves and the body is continued in the round, while the sleeves wait. The sleeves are worked top down, in the round. If there is a «0» in your chosen size, skip the information and go straight to the next instruction. NECK: Cast on 62-64-66-68-72-76-80 stitches with circular needle size 7 MM = US 10.75 and DROPS Andes or DROPS Snow. Change to circular needle size 5.5 MM = US 9. Work stockinette stitch in the round for 3½-4-4-4-4½-4½-4½ cm = 1¼"-1½"-1½"-1½"-1⅝"-1⅝"-1⅝" (= rolled-edge). Work the neck-border as follows: ROUND 1: The stitch count is doubled on this round: * Knit 1, make 1 yarn over *, work from *-* to end of round = 124-128-132-136-144-152-160 stitches. ROUND 2: * Slip the next stitch on to the right needle without working it, when slipping stitch insert the right needle in the stitch as to purl it with yarn behind piece, purl the yarn over *, work from *-* to end of round. ROUND 3: * Knit 1, slip the next stitch on to the right needle without working it, when slipping stitch insert the right needle in the stitch as to purl it with yarn in front of piece,* work from *-* to end of round. ROUND 4: * Slip the next stitch on to the right needle without working it, when slipping stitch insert the right needle in the stitch as to purl it with yarn behind piece, purl 1 *, work from *-* to end of round. ROUND 5: The stitch count is halved: * Knit 2 together*, work from *-* to end of round = 62-64-66-68-72-76-80 stitches. The round begins mid-back. Insert 1 marker at the beginning of the round; the piece is now measured from here. YOKE: Change to circular needle size 7 MM = US 10.75. Insert 4 markers, without working the stitches and inserting each marker between 2 stitches (raglan-stitches). You increase for raglan on each side of the raglan-stitches. Count 11-11-12-12-13-14-15 stitches (= approx. half the back piece), insert marker-1 before the next stitch, count 10 stitches (= sleeve), insert marker-2 before the next stitch, count 21-22-23-24-26-28-30 stitches (= front piece), insert marker-3 before the next stitch, count 10 stitches (= sleeve), insert marker-4 before the next stitch, there are 10-11-11-12-13-14-15 stitches left after the last marker (= approx. half the back piece). Work stockinette stitch in the round as follows, increasing for RAGLAN on each side of the raglan-stitches – read explanation for how to increase. ROUND 1: Knit and increase for raglan on each side of the raglan-stitches (8 increased stitches). ROUND 2: Knit; remember to work the yarn overs as described under RAGLAN. Work ROUNDS 1 and 2 a total of 12-14-17-17-17-18-18 times (24-28-34-34-34-36-36 rounds worked) = 158-176-202-204-208-220-224 stitches. Remember to maintain the knitting gauge. There are no further increases on the sleeves. Continue as follows: ROUND 1: Knit and increase for raglan on the front and back pieces, i.e., before markers 1 and 3 and after markers 2 and 4 – do not increase on the sleeves (4 increased stitches). ROUND 2: Knit; remember to work the yarn overs as described under RAGLAN. Work ROUNDS 1 and 2 a total of 3-2-0-1-2-3-5 times (6-4-0-2-4-6-10 rounds worked) = 170-184-202-208-216-232-244 stitches. All the increases for raglan are finished: A total of 15-16-17-18-19-21-23 increases in height on the front and back pieces and 12-14-17-17-17-18-18 increases in height on the sleeves. Continue stockinette stitch without further increases until the yoke measures 21-22-24-25-26-28-31 cm = 8¼"-8¾"-9½"-9¾"-10¼"-11"-12¼" from the marker mid-back. Now divide for the body and sleeves. DIVIDE FOR BODY AND SLEEVES: Knit 26-27-30-31-33-36-39 (= approx. half back piece), place the next 34-38-42-42-42-44-44 stitches on a thread/stitch holder for the sleeve, cast on 6-8-8-10-12-12-14 stitches (mid-under the sleeve), knit 51-54-59-62-66-72-78 (= front piece), place the next 34-38-42-42-42-44-44 stitches on a thread/stitch holder for the sleeve, cast on 6-8-8-10-12-12-14 stitches (mid-under the sleeve), knit the last 25-27-29-31-33-36-39 stitches (= approx. half back piece). The body and sleeves are finished separately. BODY: = 114-124-134-144-156-168-184 stitches. Insert 1 marker in the middle of the 6-8-8-10-12-12-14 cast-on stitches under one sleeve. Work to the marker; the round now begins here. Continue stockinette stitch in the round until the piece measures 50-52-54-56-58-60-62 cm = 19¾"-20½"-21¼"-22"-22¾"-23⅝"-24⅜" from the marker mid-back. Change to circular needle size 5.5 MM = US 9. Work 2 rounds of rib (knit 3 and purl 1), AT THE SAME TIME increase 2-0-2-0-0-0-0 stitches evenly on the first round = 116-124-136-144-156-168-184 stitches. Knit 2 rounds (= rolled-edge). Change to circular needle size 7 MM = US 10.75 and bind off with knit. The sweater measures approx. 52-54-56-58-60-62-64 cm = 20½"-21¼"-22"-22¾"-23⅝"-24⅜"-25¼" from the marker mid-back and 56-58-60-62-64-66-68 cm = 22"-22¾"-23⅝"-24⅜"-25¼"-26"-26¾" from the shoulder. SLEEVES: Place the 34-38-42-42-42-44-44 sleeve-stitches from one thread/stitch holder onto circular needle size 7 MM = US 10.75 and knit up 1 stitch in each of the 6-8-8-10-12-12-14 cast-on stitches under the sleeve – read SLEEVE TIP = 40-46-50-52-54-56-58 stitches. Insert a marker-thread in the middle of the 6-8-8-10-12-12-14 new stitches under the sleeve. The round starts by the marker-thread. Work stockinette stitch in the round. AT THE SAME TIME after 1 cm = ⅜", decrease mid-under the sleeve – read DECREASE TIP as follows: Decrease 2 stitches every 10-10-8-8-8-7-7 cm = 4"-4"-3⅛"-3⅛"-3⅛"-2¾"-2¾" a total of 2-4-5-5-5-5-5 times = 36-38-40-42-44-46-48 stitches. Continue working until the sleeve measures 43-43-42-41-40-39-36 cm = 17"-17"-16½"-16⅛"-15¾"-15¼"-14¼" from the division. Change to double pointed needles size 5.5 MM = US 9. Work 2 rounds of rib (knit 3 and purl 1), AT THE SAME TIME increase 0-2-0-2-0-2-0 stitches evenly on the first round = 36-40-40-44-44-48 stitches. Knit 2 rounds (= rolled-edge), change to double pointed needles size 7 MM = US 10.75 and bind off with knit. The sleeve measures approx. 45-45-44-43-42-41-38 cm = 17¾"-17¾"-17¼"-17"-16½"-16⅛"-15" from the division. |
