------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATIONS FOR THE PATTERN: ------------------------------------------------------- PATTERN (for hat): See diagrams A.1 and A.2. GARTER STITCH (worked back and forth): Knit all rows, from both the right and wrong side. 1 ridge in height = knit 2 rows. INCREASE TIP: INCREASE ONE STITCH TOWARDS THE LEFT from right side: Use the left needle to pick up the strand between 2 stitches from the previous row, pick up the strand from the front and knit through the back loop. INCREASE ONE STITCH TOWARDS THE RIGHT from right side: Use the left needle to pick up the strand between 2 stitches from the previous row, pick up the strand from the back and knit through the front loop. The increased stitches are worked in stockinette stitch ------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ------------------------------------------------------- HAT – SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE: The pattern uses needles of different lengths; start with the length which fits the number of stitches and change when necessary. The piece is worked in the round, bottom up. HAT: Cast on 130-138-146 stitches with circular needle size 3 MM = US 2.5 and DROPS Daisy or DROPS Karisma – or work Italian cast-on. Work rib in the round (knit 1, purl 1) for 12 cm = 4¾" (the edge is folded up later). Change to circular needle size 3.5 MM = US 4. Continue with stockinette stitch, decreasing 26-30-30 stitches evenly on the first round = 104-108-116 stitches. Work until the piece measures 21-22-22 cm = 8¼"-8¾"-8¾" (approx. 9-9-10 cm = 3½"-3½"-4" to finished length). Remember to maintain the knitting gauge. Insert 4 markers. The markers are inserted between stitches, with 26-27-29 stitches between each marker. Continue with stockinette stitch and decrease according to the diagrams – read PATTERN in explanations above, working as follows: ROUND 1: * Knit until there are 5 stitches left before the marker, work A.1 (= 2 stitches decreased) *, work from *-* to end of round (8 decreased stitches on the round). ROUNDS 2 and 3: Knit. Work ROUNDS 1 to 3 a total of 6-6-7 times = 56-60-60 stitches (14-15-15 stitches between each marker). Continue as follows: ROUND 1: * Knit until there are 3 stitches left before the marker, work A.2 (= 2 stitches decreased) *, work from *-* to end of round (8 decreased stitches on the round). ROUND 2: Knit. Work ROUNDS 1 and 2 a total of 3-3-3 times = 32-36-36 stitches. Continue as follows: ROUND 1: Knit all stitches together 2 and 2 = 16-18-18 stitches. ROUND 2: Knit all stitches together 2 and 2 = 8-9-9 stitches. Cut the strand, thread it through the remaining stitches, tighten and fasten well. The hat measures approx. 30-31-32 cm = 11¾"-12¼"-12½". Fold up the bottom 8 cm = 3⅛" to the right side. The hat measures approx. 22-23-24 cm = 8¾"-9"-9½". ------------------------------------------------------- NECK WARMER – SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE: The front and back pieces are the same. They are worked separately back and forth and bottom up. The shoulder seams are sewn. Stitches are knitted up for the neck which is worked in the round to finish. FRONT PIECE: Cast on 67-73-81 stitches with circular needle size 3.5 MM = US 4 and DROPS Daisy or DROPS Karisma – or work Italian cast-on. ROW 1 (wrong side): Work 3 GARTER STITCHES – read explanation above, work rib (purl 1, knit 1) until there are 4 stitches left, purl 1, work 3 garter stitches. ROW 2 (right side): Work 3 garter stitches, work rib (knit 1, purl 1) until there are 4 stitches left, knit 1, work 3 garter stitches. Work ROWS 1 and 2 for 4 cm = 1½", with the next row from the right side. Change to circular needle size 4 MM = US 6. Work 3 garter stitches, rib as before across 6 stitches, stockinette stitch across the next 49-55-63 stitches, decreasing 10-12-14 stitches evenly across these stitches, rib as before across 6 stitches, 3 garter stitches = 57-61-67 stitches. Continue this pattern back and forth. Remember to maintain the knitting gauge. When the piece measures 6 cm = 2⅜", increase each side – read INCREASE TIP, from the right side as follows: Work the first 10 stitches as before, increase 1 stitch towards the left, work until there are 10 stitches left, increase 1 stitch towards the right, work to end of row as before. Increase like this every 2½-2-2 cm = 1"-¾"-¾" until you have increased a total of 4-5-5 times each side = 65-71-77 stitches. Work until the piece measures 19-20-21 cm = 7½"-8"-8¼". Now bind off for the neckline on the next row from the right side as follows: Work the first 25-26-28 stitches as before, place these stitches on a thread/stitch holder for the left shoulder, bind off the next 15-19-21 stitches and work to end of row. The shoulders are finished separately. RIGHT SHOULDER: = 25-26-28 stitches. Work 1 row from the wrong side. Then bind off for the neckline at the beginning of each row from the right side as follows: 2 stitches 2 times and 1 stitch 2 times = 19-20-22 stitches. Work until the piece measures 26-28-30 cm = 10¼"-11"-11¾" from the cast-on edge. Bind off slightly loosely with knit from the right side. LEFT SHOULDER: Place the 25-26-28 stitches from the holder back on the needle. Work 1 row from the right side. Then bind off for the neckline at the beginning of each row from the wrong side as follows: 2 stitches 2 times and 1 stitch 2 times = 19-20-22 stitches. Work until the piece measures 26-28-30 cm = 10¼"-11"-11¾" from the cast-on edge. Bind off slightly loosely with knit from the right side. BACK PIECE: Work in the same way as the front piece. ASSEMBLY: Sew the shoulder seams, inside the bind-off edge. NECK: Use circular needle size 3 MM = US 2.5. Start from the right side by one shoulder seam. Knit up 142-162-178 stitches around the neckline (stitch count must be divisible by 2). Work rib in the round (knit 1, purl 1) for 22-23-24 cm = 8¾"-9"-9½". Bind off slightly loosely with rib. |
