---------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATION FOR THE PATTERN: ---------------------------------------------------------- GARTER STITCH (when working back and forth): Knit on all rows, i.e. knit from right side and knit from wrong side. 1 ridge vertically = knit 2 rows. PATTERN: See diagrams A.1 and A.2. Diagram shows rows in pattern seen from the right side. BAND WITH I-CORD: BEGINNING OF ROW: Work band as follows: Slip 1 stitch purlwise with strand in front of piece, knit 1 and work 5 stitches in garter stitch. END OF ROW: Work band as follows: Work until 7 stitches remain on row, work 5 stitches in garter stitch, slip 1 stitch purlwise with strand in front of piece, knit 1. Work the same way both from right side and wrong side. BUTTONHOLES: Decrease for buttonholes on right band (when garment is worn). Decrease from right side when 5 stitches remain on row as follows: ROW 1 (= right side): Make 1 yarn over, knit 2 together, knit 1, slip 1 stitch purlwise with strand in front of piece, knit 1. ROW 2 (= wrong side): Work band as before and knit yarn over to make a buttonhole. Decrease for first buttonhole on first row from right side after neck edge has been worked. Then decrease the next 5-5-6-6-6-6 buttonholes, approx. 8-8-7-7½-8-8 cm = 3⅛"-3⅛"-2¾"-2⅞"-3⅛"-3⅛" apart. DECREASE TIP: Decrease 1 stitch on each side of marker thread as follows: Work until 3 stitches remain before marker thread and knit 2 together, knit 2 (marker thread is in the middle of these 2 stitches), slip 1 stitch knitwise, knit 1, pass slipped stitch over stitch worked (= 2 stitches decreased). ---------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ---------------------------------------------------------- JACKET - SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE: In this pattern needles of different length have been used, begin with fitting length for number of stitches and switch as needed. Work yoke back and forth on circular needle from mid front, work top down. When yoke is done, divide piece for body and sleeves. Work body downwards back and forth on circular needle while putting the sleeves aside. Then work sleeves downwards in the round on needle. NECK EDGE: Cast on 109-109-118-118-130-130 stitches on circular needle size 4.5 MM = US 7 with 1 strand DROPS Alpaca and 1 strand DROPS Kid-Silk (= 2 strands). Switch to circular needle size 3.5 MM = US 4 and work as follows: From right side: 7 BAND STITCHES with I-CORD - read explanation above, knit until 7 stitches remain on needle, work 7 band stitches with I-CORD. From wrong side: 7 band stitches as before, purl until 7 stitches remain on needle, 7 band stitches as before. Work these 2 rows 1 more time = 4 rows worked. Continue as follows: From right side: 7 band stitches, work rib (knit 2/purl 1), until 9 stitches remain, knit 2, 7 band stitches. From wrong side: 7 band stitches, work rib (purl 2, knit 1) until 9 stitches remain, purl 2, 7 band stitches. Work these 2 rows 1 more time = 4 rows worked. YOKE: Switch to circular needle size 4.5 MM = US 7 and work as follows: Work 7 band stitches, knit 11-11-14-14-17-17, purl 1, knit 2, purl 1, knit 17, purl 1, knit 2, purl 1, knit 23-23-26-26-32-32, purl 1, knit 2, purl 1, knit 17, purl 1, knit 2, purl 1, knit 11-11-14-14-17-17, finish with 7 band stitches. Remember to decrease for BUTTONHOLES - read explanation above. Insert a maker on the inside of band in one side of piece, measure piece from this marker. Work 4 rows in total like this (= work stitches that are knitted from right side purl from wrong side, and work stitches that are purled from right side knit from wrong side). Remember to follow the knitting gauge! Work next row as follows from right side: Work 7 band stitches - read explanation above, knit 6-6-9-9-12-12, A.1, purl 1, knit 2, purl 1, A.2, knit 7, A.1, purl 1, knit 2, purl 1, A.2, knit 13-13-16-16-22-22, A.1, purl 1, knit 2, purl 1, A.2, knit 7, A.1, purl 1, knit 2, purl 1, A.2, knit 6-6-9-9-12-12, finish with 7 band stitches. When this row has been worked, 3 stitches have been increased in each cable (24 stitches increased in total on row) = 133-133-142-142-154-154 stitches. Work 5 rows with band as before without cable (= work stitches that are knitted from right side purl from wrong side, work stitches that are purled from right side knit from wrong side, purl yarn overs in A.1 and A.2 twisted). Work next row as follows from right side: Work 7 band stitches, knit 9-9-12-12-15-15, A.1, purl 1, knit 2, purl 1, A.2, knit 13, A.1, purl 1, knit 2, purl 1, A.2, knit 19-19-22-22-28-28, A.1, purl 1, knit 2, purl 1, A.2, knit 13, A.1, purl 1, knit 2, purl 1, A.2, knit 9-9-12-12-15-15, finish with 7 band stitches. When this row has been worked, 3 stitches have been increased in each cable (24 stitches increased in total on row) = 157-157-166-166-178-178 stitches. Decrease for BUTTONHOLES - read explanation above. Work 5 rows with band as before without cable (= work stitches that are knitted from right side purl from wrong side, and work stitches that are purled from right side knit from wrong side). Continue pattern and increase this way until cable has been done 6-6-7-8-8-8 times in total, there are 253-253-286-310-322-322 stitches on needle. Then continue with cables and increases on front pieces and back piece but increases on sleeves are now done, work stockinette stitch over these stitches (1 purl + 2 knit + 1 purl in every transition between body and sleeves continues as before). Continue increase until cable has been done 10-11-11-13-13-14 times in total on body (and 6-6-7-8-8-8 times on sleeves), there are now 301-313-334-370-382-394 stitches on needle. Work 3 rows with pattern as before (without cable, continue band as before). Piece measures approx. 25-28-28-33-33-35 cm = 9¾"-11"-11"-13"-13"-13¾", measured from marker after neck edge. DIVIDING FOR BODY AND SLEEVES: AT THE SAME TIME as next row is worked divide yoke for body and sleeves as follows: Work 50-53-56-62-65-68 stitches as before (= front piece), slip the next 57-57-63-69-69-69 stitches on a stitch holder for sleeve, cast on 4-6-8-8-10-16 new stitches on row (= in the side mid under sleeve), work 87-93-96-108-114-120 stitches as before (= back piece), slip the next 57-57-63-69-69-69 stitches on a stitch holder for sleeve, cast on 4-6-8-8-10-16 new stitches on row (= in the side mid under sleeve) and work the last 50-53-56-62-65-68 stitches as before (= front piece). Finish body and sleeves separately. Now measure piece from here! BODY: = 195-211-224-248-264-288 stitches. Work in stockinette stitch and band as before until piece measures 46-48-50-52-54-56 cm = 18"-19"-19¾"-20½"-21¼"-22" from marker mid front, on last row from wrong side increase 1-0-2-2-1-1 evenly. Switch to circular needle size 3.5 MM = US 4. Work 4 rows in stockinette stitch with 7 band stitches in each side. Bind off. Jacket measures approx. 48-50-52-54-56-58 cm = 19"-19¾"-20½"-21¼"-22"-22¾" from marker mid front and approx. 54-56-58-60-62-64 cm = 21¼"-22"-22¾"-23⅝"-24⅜"-25¼" from the top of shoulder. SLEEVES: Slip 57-57-63-69-69-69 sleeve stitches from one thread on to circular needle size 4.5 MM = US 7 and pick in addition up 1 stitch in each of the 4-6-8-8-10-16 stitches cast on under sleeve = 61-63-71-77-79-85 stitches. Insert 1 marker thread in the middle of the 4-6-8-8-10-16 new stitches under sleeve - round begins at the marker thread. Work in stockinette stitch in the round on needle - AT THE SAME TIME when sleeve measures 3 cm = 1⅛" from division, decrease mid under sleeve – read DECREASE TIP and decrease as follows: Decrease 2 stitches every 5-5-3½-2½-2½-2 cm = 2"-2"-1¼"-1"-1"-¾" 7-7-10-12-12-14 times in total = 47-49-51-53-55-57 stitches. Work until sleeve measures 40-38-38-34-33-32 cm = 15¾"-15"-15"-13⅜"-13"-12½" from division. Switch to circular needle size 3.5 MM = US 4. Work 4 rounds with rounds rib (= knit 1/purl 1), on first round increase 1 stitch on needle = 48-50-52-54-56-58 stitches. Then knit 4 rounds. Bind off. Sleeve measures 42-40-40-36-35-34 cm = 16½"-15¾"-15¾"-14¼"-13¾"-13⅜" in total from division. ASSEMBLY: Sew buttons on to left front piece. |
