I love this. Would it work with a green colour way? Sea fog instead of fog & sage or would it be pistachio instead of light blue? Then for the kid silk; could it be North Sea instead of blue wind and pistachio, peppermint, mint or sage instead of blue wind? I can only send for yarn online, so it would be helpful if someone could tell me if the colours work. Thank you
02.11.2024 - 20:41DROPS Design answered:
Dear Sally, colour combinations will usually depend on the knitter's taste; you may want it to have a lighter or darker hue, a greener or bluer tone, e.t.c. Also, the colourway may also look slightly different depending on the dyelot of the yarns, the lighting of the photo or the screen where you are seeing the combination. We recommend you contact your usual DROPS store so that they may better advise you on how the colours match. If you can only order online, they may be able to still help you by sending you photos of the colours and yarns together, to check if they match well. Happy knitting!

------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATIONS FOR THE PATTERN: ------------------------------------------------------- PATTERN: See diagrams A.1 to A.3. The pattern is worked in stockinette stitch. STRIPES: The stripes are worked in stockinette stitch with 1 strand of each quality (2 strands). The stripes are the background color of the garment. NOTE: The stripes have their own measurements and will not match repeats of A.1 to A.3 in height. 10-11-12-12-12-13 cm = 4"-4⅜"-4¾"-4¾"-4¾"-5⅛" with 1 strand Alpaca color light pearl grey and 1 strand Kid-Silk color light sky blue. 6-6-6-6-6-6 cm = 2⅜"-2⅜"-2⅜"-2⅜"-2⅜"-2⅜" with 1 strand Alpaca color light blue and 1 strand Kid-Silk color light sky blue. 6-6-6-6-7-7 cm = 2⅜"-2⅜"-2⅜"-2⅜"-2¾"-2¾" with 1 strand Alpaca color light blue and 1 strand Kid-Silk color blue wind. 6-6-6-6-6-6 cm = 2⅜"-2⅜"-2⅜"-2⅜"-2⅜"-2⅜" with 1 strand Alpaca color fog and 1 strand Kid-Silk color blue wind. 6-6-6-6-7-7 cm = 2⅜"-2⅜"-2⅜"-2⅜"-2¾"-2¾" with 1 strand Alpaca color light nougat and 1 strand Kid-Silk color blue wind. 6-6-6-6-6-6 cm = 2⅜"-2⅜"-2⅜"-2⅜"-2⅜"-2⅜" with 1 strand Alpaca color light nougat and 1 strand Kid-Silk color caramel. Work to finished length with 1 strand Alpaca color camel and 1 strand Kid-Silk color caramel. RAGLAN: INCREASE ONE STITCH TOWARDS THE RIGHT BEFORE RAGLAN-STITCHES: Make 1 yarn over the right needle by taking the strand from the back and in front of the needle. On the next round knit the front loop of the yarn over. Then work the new stitch in stockinette stitch. INCREASE ONE STITCH TOWARDS THE LEFT AFTER RAGLAN-STITCHES: Make 1 yarn over the right needle by taking the strand in front of the needle and backwards. On the next round knit the back loop of the yarn over. Then work the new stitch in stockinette stitch. INCREASE TIP (evenly spaced): To work out how to increase evenly, count the total number of stitches on the needle (e.g., 168 stitches) and divide by the number of increases to be made (e.g., 32) = 5.25. In this example, increase by making 1 yarn over after approx. each 5th stitch. On the next round knit the yarn overs twisted to avoid holes. DECREASE TIP: Decrease 1 stitch on each side of the marker-thread as follows: Work until there are 3 stitches left before the marker-thread, knit 2 together, knit 2 (marker-thread sits between these 2 stitches), slip 1 stitch knit-wise, knit 1 and pass the slipped stitch over the knitted stitch (2 stitches decreased). ------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ------------------------------------------------------- SWEATER – SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE: The pattern uses both long and short needles; start with the length which fits the number of stitches and change when necessary. The neck and yoke are worked in the round with circular needle, top down and from the right back shoulder. When the yoke is finished, it is divided for the body and sleeves and the body continued in the round, while the sleeves wait. The sleeves are worked top down, in the round. The neck is folded double and fastened to the inside. If there is a «0» in your chosen size, skip the information and go straight to the next instruction. NECK: Cast on 88-88-88-104-104-104 stitches with circular needle size 4.5 MM = US 7, 1 strand color light pearl grey DROPS Alpaca and 1 strand color light sky blue DROPS Kid-Silk (2 strands). Change to circular needle size 3 MM = US 2.5 (casting on with a larger needle size makes the cast-on edge elastic). Work rib in the round as follows: * Knit 1, purl 2, knit 1 *, work from *-* to end of round. Work this rib for 11-11-11-13-13-13 cm = 4⅜"-4⅜"-4⅜"-5⅛"-5⅛"-5⅛". The neck is later folded double to the inside, leaving a neck of approx. 5-5-5-6-6-6 cm = 2"-2"-2"-2⅜"-2⅜"-2⅜". The round starts on the right back shoulder. Insert 1 marker after the first 32-32-32-36-36-36 stitches (= mid-front). The piece is now measured from here. YOKE: Insert 4 marker-threads without working the stitches, each thread inserted between 2 stitches - these 2 stitches are the raglan-stitches and are worked in stockinette stitch with the color of each stripe. Insert marker-thread 1 at the beginning of the round, count 20 stitches (= sleeve), insert 1 marker-thread before the next stitch, count 24-24-24-32-32-32 stitches (= front piece), insert 1 marker-thread before the next stitch, count 20 stitches (= sleeve), insert 1 marker-thread before the next stitch. There are 24-24-24-32-32-32 stitches left after the last marker-thread (= back piece). Now work STRIPES, PATTERN and increase for RAGLAN – read descriptions above, as follows: ROUND 1: Change to circular needle size 4.5 MM = US 7, start first stripe, work 1 stockinette stitch with the background color (= 1 raglan-stitch), increase 1 stitch for raglan, work A.1, A.2, A.3 across the sleeve, increase 1 stitch for raglan on both sides of the 2 raglan-stitches, increase 2-2-2-6-6-6 stitches evenly between marker-threads 2 and 3 whilst working A.1, A.2 a total of 2-2-2-4-4-4 times then A.3 (front piece), increase 1 stitch for raglan on both sides of the 2 raglan-stitches, work A.1, A.2, A.3 across the sleeve, increase 1 stitch for raglan on both sides of the 2 raglan-stitches, increase 2-2-2-6-6-6 stitches evenly between marker-threads 4 and 1 whilst working A.1, A.2 a total of 2-2-2-4-4-4 times then A.3 (back piece), increase 1 stitch for raglan before the last stitch on the round, work this stitch in stockinette stitch with the background color (= 1 raglan-stitch) = 100-100-100-124-124-124 stitches. ROUND 2: Continue stripe, stockinette stitch and pattern; the new stitches are worked into the pattern as shown in the diagrams (remember to work the yarn overs as described under RAGLAN). ROUND 3: Continue stripe, stockinette stitch and pattern, increasing for raglan on each side of the raglan-stitches (8 increased stitches). ROUND 4: Continue the stripe, stockinette stitch and pattern; the new stitches are worked into the pattern as shown in the diagrams (remember to work the yarn overs as described under RAGLAN). Work ROUNDS 3 and 4 a total of 11-14-17-20-23-20 times (22-28-34-40-46-40 worked rounds) = 188-212-236-284-308-284 stitches. Remember to maintain the knitting gauge. NOTE: Each time A.1 to A.3 are completed in height, there is room for 2 more repeats of A.2 in width. Now increase for raglan as follows: ROUND 1: Continue with stripes, stockinette stitch and pattern, increasing for raglan after marker-thread 2, before marker-thread 3, after marker-thread 4 and before marker-thread 1, i.e., increase only on the front and back pieces and not on the sleeves (4 increased stitches). ROUND 2: Continue with stripes, stockinette stitch and pattern, the new stitches are worked into the pattern (remember to work the yarn overs as described under RAGLAN). Work ROUNDS 1 and 2 a total of 12-12-12-9-9-12 times (24-24-24-18-18-24 worked rounds) = 236-260-284-320-344-332 stitches. All increases for raglan are finished (a total of 24-27-30-30-33-33 times on the front and back pieces and 12-15-18-21-24-21 times on the sleeves). The pattern begins and ends with a complete/half repeat of A.2 by each raglan-line. Continue working until the yoke measures approx. 21-23-25-25-28-28 cm = 8¼"-9"-9¾"-9¾"-11"-11" from the marker mid-front. Now divide for the body and sleeves. DIVIDE FOR BODY AND SLEEVES: Place the first 44-50-56-62-68-62 stitches on a thread for the sleeve, cast on 10-10-10-10-10-22 stitches (in side mid-under sleeve), work 74-80-86-98-104-104 stitches as before (= front piece), place the next 44-50-56-62-68-62 stitches on a thread for the sleeve, cast on 10-10-10-10-10-22 stitches (in side mid-under sleeve), work the last 74-80-86-98-104-104 stitches (= back piece). The body and sleeves are finished separately. The round now begins in the transition between the back piece and the cast-on stitches under one sleeve. BODY: = 168-180-192-216-228-252 stitches. Continue stripes and pattern (A.2 is also worked across the 10-10-10-10-10-22 cast-on stitches under each sleeve and the pattern now fits on the round), until the piece measures 43-45-47-48-50-52 cm = 17"-17¾"-18½"-19"-19¾"-20½" from the marker, finishing after a row of one color after a complete square in height. Change to circular needle size 3 MM = US 2.5. Use 1 strand color camel Alpaca and 1 strand color caramel Kid-Silk (2 strands). Work rib (knit 2, purl 2), AT THE SAME TIME increase 32-32-32-36-36-44 stitches evenly on round 1 – read INCREASE TIP = 200-212-224-252-264-296 stitches. When the rib measures 6-6-6-7-7-7 cm = 2⅜"-2⅜"-2⅜"-2¾"-2¾"-2¾", bind off. The sweater measures approx. 49-51-53-55-57-59 cm = 19¼"-20"-21"-21⅝"-22½"-23¼" from the marker mid-front and 54-56-58-60-62-64 cm = 21¼"-22"-22¾"-23⅝"-24⅜"-25¼" from the shoulder. SLEEVES: Place the 44-50-56-62-68-62 sleeve-stitches from the thread on one side of the piece on circular needle size 4.5 MM = US 7 and knit up 1 stitch in each of the 10-10-10-10-10-22 stitches cast on under the sleeve = 54-60-66-72-78-84 stitches. Insert a marker-thread in the middle of the 10-10-10-10-10-22 stitches under the sleeve. Start at the marker-thread and continue the stripes, stockinette stitch and pattern from the yoke in the round. The pattern will not fit under the sleeve until the decreases are finished. When the sleeve measures 3-3-3-2-2-2 cm = 1⅛"-1⅛"-1⅛"-¾"-¾"-¾", decrease 2 stitches under the sleeve – read DECREASE TIP. Decrease like this every 3-2-2-1½-1½-1 cm = 1⅛"-¾"-¾"-½"-½"-⅜" a total of 3-6-6-9-9-12 times = 48-48-54-54-60-60 stitches. Continue working until the sleeve measures 40-39-38-36-34-35 cm = 15¾"-15¼"-15"-14¼"-13⅜"-13¾" from the division, finishing in the same way as on the body. Change to double pointed needles size 3 MM = US 2.5. Work rib (knit 2, purl 2) with 1 strand color camel Alpaca and 1 strand color caramel Kid-Silk, AT THE SAME TIME increase 8-8-10-10-12-12 stitches evenly on the first round = 56-56-64-64-72-72 stitches. When the rib measures 6-6-6-7-7-7 cm = 2⅜"-2⅜"-2⅜"-2¾"-2¾"-2¾", bind off. The sleeve measures approx. 46-45-44-43-41-42 cm = 18"-17¾"-17¼"-17"-16⅛"-16½". ASSEMBLY: Fold the neck double to the inside and sew down. |
