Dear Lorraine B, after you have cast off the middle stitches for neck, you finish each shoulder separately casting off 2 stitches at the beg of next row starting from neck towards armhole - adjust with front piece (= approx. 2 cm after neck shaping on back piece) and bind off remaining stiches. Gauge: 20 sts x 26 rows on larger needles in stockinette st = 10 x 10 cm [4" x 4"]. Pattern 2 = approx. 2.5 cm [1"] in height. Pattern: See charts. (1 chart = 1 repeat). The pattern is seen from the right side. Pattern body: Pattern 2, 9 cm [3.5"] of Pattern 1, Pattern 2, 9 cm [3.5"] of Pattern 1, Pattern 2, 9 cm [3.5"] of Pattern 1, Pattern 2, bind off. Rib: * K 2, purl 2 *. Repeat from *-*. Body: Cast on 202 (210-218) sts on smaller circular needles and knit Pattern 3 for 4 cm [1.5"], keeping 1 edge st at each side (center front) in garter st throughout. Change to larger circular needles, knit stockinette st and place a marker at each side = 51 (53-55) sts for the front, 100 (104-108) sts for the back and 51 (53-55) sts for the front. Then inc 1 st each side of each marker 6 (7-8) times every 10th (9th-8th) row (first increase after 9 (8-7) rows) = 226 (238-250) sts. Knit the rest of each part separately. Front: = 57 (60-63) sts. When the work measures 49 (51-52) cm [19.25" (20" - 20.5")], bind off at the neck edge every other row: 9 (10-10) sts 1 time, 3 sts 1 time, 2 sts 1 time, 1 st 2 and then every 4th row: 1 st 4 times. Bind off after Pattern is complete. The work measures approx. 56 (58-59) cm [22" (22-⅞" - 23.25")]. Back: = 112 (118-124) sts. When the work measures 54 (56-57) cm [21.25" (22" - 22.5")], bind off the center 34 (36-36) sts for the neck. Bind off 2 sts at each neck edge on the next row. Bind off. The work measures approx. 56 (58-59) cm [22" (22-⅞" - 23.25")]. Sleeves: Cast on 48 (50-50) sts on smaller double pointed needles with brown; join and place a marker at the join. Knit Pattern 1 for 8 cm [3-⅛"]. Change to larger double pointed needles and stockinette st. At the same time, after Pattern 1, inc 1 st each side of marker 26 (25-27) times alternately every 3rd and 4th row = 100 (100-104) sts. When the work measures 36 (35-35) cm [14-⅛" (13.75" - 13.75")], knit Pattern 2 once, 9 cm [3.5"] of Pattern 1 and then Pattern 2. At the same time, when the work measures 47.5 (46.5-46.5) cm [18.75" (18.25" - 18.25")], bind off 2 sts each side of marker and knit the rest back and forth on the needles. Bind off at each side for sleeve caps every other row: 15 (15-16) sts 2 times, bind off. The work measures approx. 50 (49-49) cm [19.75" (19.25" - 19.25")]. Assembly: Sew shoulder seams. Pick up approx. 136-144 sts along the left front on smaller needles with brown and knit rib for 3 cm [1.25"]. Repeat along the right front, but after 1 cm [3/8"] make 8 buttonholes (1 buttonhole = bind off 2 sts and cast on 2 new sts over the bound-off sts on the next row) evenly distributed on the button band. Pick up approx. 102-106 sts (divisible by 4 sts + 2 sts) around the neck on smaller needles with brown (do not pick up sts over the button band) and knit rib for 7 cm [2.75"] back and forth on the needles as follows seen from the right side: * P 2, K 2 *. Sew on the sleeves and buttons. |
