------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATIONS FOR THE PATTERN: ------------------------------------------------------- PATTERN: See diagrams A.1 to A.5. HEEL DECREASES: ROW 1 (= right side): Knit until there are 7-7-8 stitches left, slip 1 stitch knit-wise, knit 1 and pass the slipped stitch over the knitted stitch, turn. ROW 2 (= wrong side): Purl until there are 7-7-8 stitches left, slip 1 stitch purl-wise, purl 1 and pass the slipped stitch over the purled stitch, turn. ROW 3 (= right side): Knit until there are 6-6-7 stitches left, slip 1 stitch knit-wise, knit 1 and pass the slipped stitch over the knitted stitch, turn. ROW 4 (= wrong side): Purl until there are 6-6-7 stitches left, slip 1 stitch purl-wise, purl 1 and pass the slipped stitch over the purled stitch, turn. Continue to decrease like this, working until there is 1 stitch less each time before slipping a stitch and until there are 12-14-16 stitches left. DECREASE TIP: Start 3 stitches before the marker, knit 2 together, knit 2 (marker sits between these 2 stitches), slip 1 stitch knit-wise, knit 1 and pass the slipped stitch over the knitted stitch (2 stitches decreased). Repeat at the other marker. ------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ------------------------------------------------------- SOCKS - SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE: The piece is worked in the round with double pointed needles, top down. LEG: Cast on 60-60-70 stitches with double pointed needles size 3 MM = US 2.5 and DROPS Karisma or DROPS Fiesta. Insert 1 marker-thread at the beginning of the round (mid-back). Work A.1 in the round over all stitches for 8 cm = 3⅛" (folded edge at top). Then work A.2 over all stitches (the rib is now worked in reverse) for 2 cm = 10 cm rib in total. Change to double pointed needles size 3.5 MM = US 4. Work A.3 over all stitches until the leg measures 24-25-26 cm = 9½"-9¾"-10¼" from the cast-on edge – finish 3 rounds after a round of cabling. REMEMBER THE KNITTING GAUGE! Cut the strand. HEEL AND FOOT: Keep the first 18-18-18 stitches on the needle, place the next 28 stitches on a thread (top of foot), keep the last 14-14-24 stitches on the needle = 32-32-42 heel-stitches on the needle. Work the first row from the right side as follows: Work A.4, 3-3-4 times, 2 stockinette stitches. Continue this pattern back and forth for 6-6-6½ cm = 2⅜"-2⅜"-2½". On the next row decrease 8-6-12 stitches evenly spaced = 24-26-30 stitches. Insert 1 marker in the middle of the last row. The foot is measured from here. Work HEEL DECREASES in stockinette stitch – read description above. After the heel decreases, work next round as follows: Knit the 12-14-16 heel stitches, knit up 13-13-14 stitches along one side of the heel, work pattern as before over the 28 stitches from the thread, knit up 13-13-14 stitches along the other side of the heel = 66-68-72 stitches. Work to mid-under the heel – the round starts here. Insert 1 marker on each side of the 28 stitches on top of the foot. Continue A.5 over the 28 stitches on top of the foot and stockinette stitches over the other stitches, and AT THE SAME TIME decrease on each side as follows: Knit together the last 2 stitches before the first marker (before A.5) and knit twisted together the first 2 stitches after the second marker (after A.5). Decrease like this every round 5-4-3 times in total, then every 2nd round 4 times = 48-52-58 stitches. Work until the foot measures 17-18-19 cm = 6¾"-7"-7½" from the marker on the heel, measured under the foot – NOTE: finish 2 rounds after a round of cabling. There is 5-6-7 cm = 2"-2⅜"-2¾" left; try the sock on and work to desired length. On the next round decrease 6 stitches in A.5 by knitting the cabled stitches together 2 and 2 = 42-46-52 stitches. TOE: Insert 1 marker on each side with 22-26-26 stitches on top of the foot and 20-20-26 stitches underneath the foot. Continue with stockinette stitch over all stitches. When you have worked 3 rounds, decrease on each side of both markers – read DECREASE TIP (4 stitches decrease). Decrease like this every 2nd round 4-6-7 times in total, then every round 4-3-4 times = 10-10-8 stitches. On the next round knit all stitches together 2 and 2 = 5-5-4 stitches. Cut the strand, pull it through the remaining stitches, tighten and fasten well. The foot measures approx. 22-24-26 cm = 8¾"-9½"-10¼" from the marker on the heel, measured under the foot. Work the other sock in the same way. |
