How to work the slippers in DROPS Extra 0-1448

In this DROPS video we show you how to work the slippers in DROPS Extra 0-1448. We have already cast on 19 stitches (size EU 35/37 = US 5-7 ) and start the video by working in garter stitch row 1 and 2 where we show how to work 2 stitches in 1 stitch at the beginning and end of the row. Then we show how we split the piece and work in 2 parts and how to decrease 1 stitch in each side on every other row. Read the pattern for the further decreases. How to knit a sock with a gusset heel – short overview

In this DROPS video, we show you how to knit a sock with a gusset heel - arguably the most common method for working a heel. To begin, the stitches on top of the foot are placed on a thread, while the stitches at the back are kept on the needles and the heel is worked as follows: 1) The heel is first worked in height, back and forth across the heel-stitches. 2) Next, the bottom of the heel is worked to the required width and length by working short rows and decreasing stitches. 3) Once this step is completed, continue knitting in the round across all stitches, knitting up stitches on both sides of the heel (along the length). 4) The width and shape of the foot is worked by decreasing stitches on both sides, forming a small gusset heel – that is why this type of heel is known as a gusset heel.

How to knit a sock with a square heel

In this DROPS video, we show you how to knit a sock with a square heel. The stitches on top of the foot are placed on a thread, while the stitches at the back are kept on the needles and the heel is worked as follows (the heel extends under the foot): 1) The heel is worked back and forth across the heel-stitches to achieve the correct height. For this type of heel, the length reaches midway under the heel. 2) Next, the heel is knitted together beneath the foot. 3) The sock is then continued in the round, with stitches picked up along both sides of the heel length, working towards the toe. 4) This heel creates a square shape, which is why this type of heel is known as a square heel.

How to knit a sock with a gusset heel (basic method)

In this DROPS video we show how to knit a gusset heel on a sock following a basic method. Knit the heel sts in the back in stockinette st back and forth on needles for 5-6 cm/2-2½ inches. Start dec on next row from RS. Knit row until in pattern mentioned numbers of sts remain, K2 tog into back of loop, turn piece. Knit WS row until in pattern mentioned numbers of sts remain, P2 tog, turn piece. Continue back and forth dec like this with 1 less st remaining each time before working 2 sts tog. After heel dec pick up in pattern mentioned numbers of sts on each side of heel and continue in stockinette st in the round on all needles again. You must read the pattern to be able to follow. Heel - diagonal shaping on knitted sock

Work stocking sts on heel sts, and at the same time slip 1 st at the end of every row on a strand of yarn or a stitch holder. Continue until there are 3 sts on holders each side and 4 sts left on needle. Now continue in stocking sts, and at the same time work 1 st from stitch holder back on needle at the end of every row Note: to avoid a hole pick up 2 sts between sts on needle and sts on stitch holder. On next row work these 2 sts and st from holder tog to 1 st. Continue like this until all sts are back on needle. Work 1 row stocking st on all sts and then continue on all sts on round again.

Heel reinforced - knitted sock

Create a heel on a knitted sock that will be more hard wearing. WS rows: slip 1 st as if to purl, then purl all sts on row, turn. RS rows. *slip 1st as if to knit, K1* and repeat *-* over all heel sts. The slipped sts will stand out when looking at the RS. When heel flap is finished, start working to turn the heel as you continue slipping every other sts on the RS rows. Make sure to slip the same sts as before. Once heel is turned, pick up sts on each side of heel, start working in the round and stop slipping the heel sts. The heel is now thicker than the rest of the sock.

In this DROPS video we show how to work separate heel with short rows for socks worked back and forth. We have already worked the top of the leg and downwards to where the piece measures 12 cm. Starting from RS: * K 6, turn and K 5 back, inc by K 2 sts in last st on row, turn *, repeat from *-* a total of 4 times. * K 8, turn and K 6 back, dec by K tog the last 2 sts, turn *, repeat from *-* a total of 4 times. Work 1 row over all sts - insert a marker on this row - now measure piece from here. Continue working as follows, starting from WS: * P 6, turn and P 5 back, inc by P 2 sts in last st on row, turn *, repeat from *-* a total of 4 times. * P 8, turn and P 6 back, dec by P tog the last 2 sts, turn *, repeat from *-* a total of 4 times = 18-18-19 sts.
