Hi, I want to test my gauge but I’m uncertain of which part of the pattern I’m meant to use. It simply says to do the “textured pattern” I’m not sure where specifically in the pattern that starts. I’d also like to leave out the strand of kid silk and wonder if it will make a big enough difference for me to have to change needle sizes. Thank you

Dear Ella, the textured pattern is the A.1 chart, so you need to work the gauge in A.1. You can try leaving out the Kid-silk strand; just check your swatch without Kid-silk and, if too different, you could try changing needle sizes, otherwise you would be good to go. Happy knitting!

Mvh DROPS Design

Knitted neck warmer in DROPS Air and DROPS Kid-Silk. The piece is worked with textured pattern.

------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATIONS FOR THE PATTERN: ------------------------------------------------------- RIDGE/GARTER STITCH (worked back and forth): Knit all rows. 1 ridge in height = Knit 2 rows. PATTERN: See diagram A.1. The diagram shows all rows in the pattern from the right side. DECREASE TIP: All decreases are worked from the right side! Decrease as follows from the neck: Work the first 2 stitches as before, slip 1 stitch as if to knit, knit 1 and pass the slipped stitch over (= 1 stitch decreased). Decrease as follows towards the neck: Work until there are 4 stitches left on the row and knit 2 together (= 1 stitch decreased). ------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ------------------------------------------------------- NECK WARMER – SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE: The piece is worked back and forth in sections and sewn together at the shoulder. The piece is worked in the round to finish. BACK PIECE: Cast on 44-52 stitches with circular needle size 5.5 mm = US 9 and 1 strand Air and 1 strand Kid-Silk (= 2 strands). Purl 1 row from the wrong side. Then work rib from the right side as follows: 1 edge stitch in GARTER STITCH – read description above, work rib (= knit 2 / purl 2) until there are 3 stitches left on the row, knit 2 and 1 edge stitch in garter stitch. Continue this rib for 4 cm = 1½". Change to circular needle size 6 mm = US 10. Now work A.1 with 1 edge stitch in garter stitch on each side. The 2 knitted stitches in A.1 should match the 2 knitted stitches in the rib. REMEMBER THE KNITTING GAUGE! When the piece measures 32-34 cm = 12½"-13⅜", bind off the middle 18-18 stitches for the neck and each shoulder is finished separately. On the next row from the neck bind off 1 stitch = 12-16 stitches on the shoulder. When the piece measures 34-36 cm = 13⅜"-14¼", bind off with knit from the right side. Work the other shoulder in the same way. FRONT PIECE: Cast on and work rib and pattern as for the back piece. When the piece measures 29-31 cm = 11⅜"-12¼", place the middle 12-12 stitches on a thread for the neck and each shoulder is finished separately. Continue with textured pattern and 1 edge stitch in garter stitch on each side. On the next row from the right side decrease for the neck – read DECREASE TIP. Decrease like this every 2nd row a total of 4 times = 12-16 stitches. When the piece measures 5 cm = 2" from where stitches were placed on a thread for the neck (the piece should now measure 34-36 cm = 13⅜"-14¼") bind off with knit from the right side. Work the other shoulder in the same way. ASSEMBLY: Sew the shoulder seams inside the bind-off edge – make sure the seams are not tight. HIGH NECK: Knit up 64 to 72 stitches around the neck with short circular needle size 5.5 mm = US 9 and 1 strand of each quality (= 2 strands). The number of stitches should be divisible by 4. Work rib (= knit 2 / purl 2) in the round – make sure you knit over knit and purl over purl over both the garter stitch and the 12 stitches from the thread on the front piece. When the neck measures 18 cm = 7", bind off with knit over knit and purl over purl. |
