Hi, I'm ready to start binding off at the center front for the neck line. There are 2 garter stitches at the edge. Once I bind off 3 stitches, do I continue the remaining stitches in pattern M1, or do I make the next 2 stitches garter stitch, and then continue the remaining stitches in pattern? Thanks for your help.
24.03.2026 - 08:59DROPS Design answered:
Dear Christine, work all the remaining stitches in pattern as before (without any garter stitch towards neck), you will cast off more stitches for neck. Happy knitting!

Knit the rest of each part separately. Fronts: = 53 (57-60) sts. Bind off for armhole every other row: 3 sts 1 (1-2) times, 2 sts 2 (3-3) times, dec 1 st 2 (3-2) times = 44 (45-46) sts. When the work measures 22 (22-23) cm, bind off at the center front for the neck every other row: 3 (3-4) sts 1 time, 2 sts 3 times, dec 1 st 8 times, then dec 1 st every 4th row 2 times, then dec 1 st every 6th row 1 time. Bind off when the work measures 38 (39-40) cm. Back: = 101 (109-115) sts. Shape armholes as for fronts = 83 (85-87) sts. When the work measures 36 (37-38) cm, bind off the center 29 (29-31) sts for the neck. Then bind off at each neck edge every other row: 2 sts 1 time, 1 st 1 time. Bind off all sts when the work measures 38 (39-40) cm. Sleeves: = Cast on 72 (74-78) sts on larger double pointed needles; join and place a marker at the join. Knit 4 rows garter st. Then knit Pattern 1 and at the same time, inc 1 st on each side of marker every row 8 (9-9) times = 88 (92-96) sts. When the work measures 4 (4-3) cm, bind off 2 sts each side of marker and knit the work back and forth on the needles. Then bind off at each side every other row: 3 sts 2 times, 2 sts 10 (12-13) times, 3 sts 2 times, bind off all sts. The work measures approx. 15 (16-16) cm. Assembly: Sew shoulder seams. Pick up approx. 125-135 sts on smaller circular needles around the neck and knit 4 rows garter st, bind off all sts. Broad crochet border on the body: Work a row of approx. 221 (236-248) sc (divisible by 3 sts + 2 sts) around the bottom edge. Repeat Pattern 2 until the entire piece measures approx. 49 (50-52) cm. Crochet border on the sleeve: Work the crochet border back and forth from the underarm join. Work a row of approx. 71 (74-80) sc (divisible by 3 sts + 2 sts) around the bottom of the sleeve. Then work 3 rows of Pattern 2. Seam the crochet border together. Work 2 rows of approx. 75-85 sc along the right front. Repeat along the left front, but on the first row make 4 buttonholes evenly distributed between the crochet border at the bottom and the neck by working 2 ch sts rather than 2 sc. Sew on the sleeves and buttons. |
