Buon lavoro!

Do I do 12 rows of A1, and then A2? Is there a written pattern available? My dr recommended knitting to help with my anxiety disorder and I love knitting, but I don't have anyone locally to help me figure out things.
28.01.2025 - 17:09DROPS Design answered:
Dear Carol, when you knit your row, you start with 3 garter stitch, then pattern Aon the next 102 stitches and finish th erow with pattern A.2 and 3 garter stitch. In other words, you knit several repeats of A.1 and then finish the row with one repeat of A.2. This is done so the two sides of the shawl will be symmetric. There is no written out pattern, but HEREt we have a tutorial to help you learn, how to make sense of a knitting diagram. Happy Knitting!

Bon tricot!

DROPS 211-3 |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||
------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATIONS FOR THE PATTERN: ------------------------------------------------------- RIDGE/GARTER STITCH (worked back and forth): Knit all rows. 1 ridge in height = Knit 2 rows. PATTERN: See diagrams A.1 to A.4 (A.1 and A.2 for the rib). The diagrams show all the rows in the pattern seen from the right side. BINDING-OFF TIP: To avoid the bind-off edge being tight you can bind off with a larger size needle. If the edge is still tight, make 1 yarn over after approx. each 4th stitch at the same time as binding off and the yarn overs are bind off as normal stitches. ------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ------------------------------------------------------- STOLE – SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE: The piece is worked back and forth in 2 parts, bottom up as far as the middle. The parts are then sewn together. STOLE – PART 1: Cast on, a little loosely, 129 stitches with circular needle size 4.5 mm = US 7 and Brushed Alpaca Silk. Purl 1 row (= wrong side). The next row is worked as follows from the right side: Work 3 edge stitches in GARTER STITCH – read description above, work A.1 over the next 102 stitches (= 3 repeats of 34 stitches), A.2 (= 21 stitches) and finish with 3 edge stitches in garter stitch. Continue this rib and decrease as shown in the diagrams. When A.1 and A.2 have been completed there are 94 stitches on the needle and the piece measures approx. 5 cm = 2" in height. Change to circular needle size 5 mm = US 8 and work the next row as follows from the right side: Work 3 edge stitches in garter stitch, A.3 over the next 75 stitches (= 3 repeats of 25 stitches), work A.4 (= 13 stitches) and finish with 3 edge stitches in garter stitch. Continue this pattern back and forth. REMEMBER THE KNITTING GAUGE! When the piece measures approx. 74 cm = 29⅛" change to circular needle size 4.5 mm = US 7. Knit 1 row from the wrong side, knit 1 row from the right side and knit 1 row from the wrong side. Read BINDING-OFF TIP and bind off with knit from the right side. The piece measures approx. 75 cm = 29½". PART 2: Work in the same way as part 1. ASSEMBLY: Sew parts 1 and 2 together in the middle – sew in the outermost loop of the outermost stitch so the seam is flat and make sure the seam is not tight. |
