What sizes are you using? I am UK size 6 = EU 39 = 24.6 cm I did not know the cm length I had to look it up The length you have stated for 38- 40 is 24 cm this is shorter than size 39! The sizing is downright confusing?
27.11.2019 - 20:59DROPS Design answered:
Dear Deborah, for your size you can follow the 2nd size, slippers should then fit nicely. For any further assistance choosing size or felting, you are welcome to contact your DROPS store, even per mail or telephone. Happy knitting!

Hello, This is my first felting attempt I have knitted a tension Swatch then the slippers. I have not felted them yet. I am concerned as they are smaller than my foot and need to stretch to fit it. Especially width wise. They are also a really snug fit lengthwise. Should they not be too big for my foot pre felting? I don't understand as I am also using the same yarn (Lima) and definatley knitted the correct size!
27.11.2019 - 19:44DROPS Design answered:
Hi Deborah, Yes, before felting the slippers should be too large. It sounds like your knitting tension is too tight, so try increasing a needle size. Happy felting!

So do I begin working the flap with a separate skein?
21.10.2019 - 03:49DROPS Design answered:
Dear Deanna, that's right, then you will work the bottom piece and the flap (= stitches from the beg of piece) together in the round. Happy knitting!

Hello, you don't have diagrams so I'm trying to figure out what the first piece is--is it the heel of the slipper? Also, when you say "set aside" should I keep the stitches live by placing them on a holder or do I cast off? Also, when starting the flap, how many rows of the cable do I knit before attaching it to the first piece? Would it be possible to do a video for this? Thank you
31.12.2018 - 15:42DROPS Design answered:
Dear Knitwitch, first piece worked is the beg of the slipper from mid heel towards the foot - when it is worked, slip sts aside without casting off. Cast on the new sts for flap (= work A.1 one time in height = 1 cable), then work all sts together in the round to the end. Happy knitting!

After completing the first piece it says set piece aside— do I bind off or just place the remaining stitches on a holder? Can you do a video for attaching flap to first piece to begin working in the round?
28.12.2018 - 20:44DROPS Design answered:
Dear Viv, after completing the first piece you just slip stitches on a thread or a stitch holder, do not cast off. work now the flap and you will then work flap and stitches from thread/stitch holder together in the round. Happy knitting!

I wish you had a better explanation for attaching the flap. the way this pattern is written up its a bit confusing. it'd be better to have a video explanation
27.12.2018 - 19:20DROPS Design answered:
Dear GeeGee, after you have worked the flap, slip the 27-29-33 stitches from thread/stitch holder back on needles and work in the round starting on first st on flap from RS work A.1 as before, but work the last st from flap together with the next st twisted. Happy knitting!

Bonjour.

GARTER ST (back and forth): K all rows. 1 ridge = K2 rows. GARTER ST (worked in the round): 1 ridge = 2 rounds. * K 1 round and P 1 round *, repeat from *-*. PATTERN: See diagram A.1. The diagram shows all rows in pattern seen from RS. Choose diagram for correct size. DECREASE TIP: Dec 1 st in each side. All dec are done from RS! Dec at beg of row as follows: K 2 sts twisted tog. Dec at end of row as follows: K the last 2 sts tog. ---------------------------------------------------------- SLIPPER: Worked back and forth on needle from mid back until instep, then make a flap. Then join the flap and the rest of the slipper, the rest of the foot is now worked in the round until finished measurements. Cast on 45-47-49 sts on needle size 4 mm / US 6 with Lima and work in GARTER ST - see explanation above. REMEMBER THE KNITTING GAUGE When piece measures 6-7-10 cm / 2½"-2 ¾"-4", dec 1 st in each side - READ DECREASE TIP! Repeat dec every 4th row (i.e. every other row from RS) a total of 6-6-6 times and then every other row (i.e. every row from RS) a total of 3-3-2 times = 27-29-33 sts on needle. After last dec K 1 row from WS, piece measures approx. 12-13-15 cm / 4 ¾"-5"-6". Put piece aside. FLAP: Cast on 15-15-18 sts on needle size 4 mm / US 6. Work 2 ridges. Work next row as follows from RS: K 3-3-4, work 2 sts in each of the next 3 sts, K 3-3-4, work 2 sts in each of the next 3 sts and finish with K 3-3-4 = 21-21-24 sts. Work next row as follows from WS: K 3-3-4, P 6, K 3-3-4, P 6 and K 3-3-4. Then continue pattern according to diagram A.1. When A.1 has been worked 1 time vertically, put parts tog and work foot in the round. FOOT: Slip sts from the two parts tog on double pointed needles size 4 mm / US 6 = 48-50-57 sts. Beg with flap and continue A.1 as before but when last st remains, K this twisted tog with first st on slipper, work in garter st until 1 st remains on round and K last st on round tog with first st in A.1. (= 2 sts dec). Continue in the round with A.1 and in garter st AT THE SAME TIME repeat dec on each side of A.1 every 6th round (i.e. on every cable round) 6-7-8 times in total. AT THE SAME TIME when piece measures 20-22-25 cm / 8"-8 ¾"-9 3/4 (measured from cast-on edge on slipper) dec 1 st in every section in garter st mid on top of foot (= 3 sts dec). Repeat dec when piece measures 21-23-26 cm / 8 ¼"-9"-10 ¼". After all dec 30-30-35 sts remain on needle. On next round K tog all sts 2 by 2 = 15-15-18 sts. P 1 round. On next round K tog all sts 2 by 2 = 8-8-9 sts. P 1 round. Cut the yarn and pull it through the remaining sts, tighten tog and fasten. Sew slipper tog mid back in outer loops of edge stss. Knit another slipper the same way. FELTING: Place the slippers in the washing machine with a detergent without enzymes and optical bleach. Wash at hot 40C/104F with normal spin but no pre-wash. Put on the slipper and shape it to the correct size while it is still wet. At subsequent wash, wash the slipper at regular wool program. AFTER FELTING: If the piece is not felted enough and is too big: Wash the piece one more time in the washing machine while it is still wet add a terry towel that measures approx. 50 x 70 cm = 19¾" x 27½" - NOTE: Do not use a short program. If the piece has been felted too much and is too small: While the piece is still wet stretch it to the correct measurements, if the piece is dry, make sure to soak it first. Remember: All subsequent washes are as a normal wool garment. |
