Can you explain what you mean about the decreases inside the garter stitch? For the back of the neck, will there still be 22 stitches (for the medium size), or 20? Likewise, on the neck, I think you always want 4 garter stitches for a border, so where is the decrease taken? Finally, for the size medium, right shoulder, I don't understand how you wind up with 19 stitches: 30-2-8 gives me 20, not 19. Am I miscounting?

Dear Elizabeth, you work 2 ridges over the middle 22 sts and cast off the middle 14 sts = 4 sts in garter st remain on each side of neck. After the 2 ridges, you dec 1 st before the sts in garter st + 1 st after these sts: 54 - 2 sts = 52 - 14 sts cast off for neck = 38 sts = 19 sts for each shoulder. Happy knitting!

Buon lavoro!!

What does it mean when you say "work 2 ridges over the middle stitches"?
12.05.2016 - 02:11DROPS Design answered:
Dear Elizabeth, you will work 2 ridges in garter st (= 4 rows in garter st) over the middle sts, with the remaining sts on each side as before, ie from RS K all sts, from WS K the middle sts and P the remaining sts on each side. When you have P 2 rows over the middle sts, there are 2 ridges in garter st for neck. Happpy knitting!
