After heel dec, knit up 10-11-11 sts along each side of heel and slip the 24-24-26 sts from stitch holder back on needle = 54-56-60 sts. What does knit up 10 sts along esch side of the needle mean? Should I increase 20 stitches? I am a bit confused Thank you in advance for your help.

HEEL DECREASE: 1st row (= RS): Work until 5-6-6 sts remain, slip 1 st as if to K, K 1, psso, turn piece. 2nd row (= WS): Work until 5-6-6 sts remain, slip 1 st as if to P, P 1, psso, turn piece. 3rd row (= RS): Work until 4-5-5 sts remain, slip 1 st as if to K, K 1, psso, turn piece. 4th row (= WS): Work until 4-5-5 sts remain, slip 1 st as if to P, P 1, psso, turn piece. Continue dec like this with 1 less st before every dec until 10-10-12 sts remain on needle. --------------------------------------------------------- SOCK: Worked in the round on double pointed needles from mid back. Cast on 44-48-52 sts on double pointed needles size 4 mm / US 6 with 1 strand off white and 1 strand sandy dust. K 2 rounds. REMEMBER THE GAUGE! Then work rib K 2/P 2 until piece measures 6 cm / 2⅜". Insert a marker in 1st st on round (= mid back). Continue in stockinette st. Then dec in the different sizes as follows: Size 5/6½: When piece measures 11 cm / 4⅜", dec 1 st on each side of st with marker. Size 7½/9: When piece measures 9 and 16 cm / 3½" and 6¼", dec 1 st on each side of st with marker. Size 9½/10½: When piece measures 10 and 17 cm / 4" and 6¾", dec 1 st on each side of st with marker. = 42-44-48 sts. Work until piece measures 24-25-26 cm / 9½"-9¾"-10¼". Now keep the first 9-10-11 sts on needle, slip the next 24-24-26 sts on a stitch holder (= mid upper foot) and keep the last 9-10-11 sts on needle = 18-20-22 sts for heel. Work in stockinette st back and forth over heel sts for 5-5½-6 cm / 2"-2¼"-2⅜". Insert a marker and measure the piece from here. Now dec for heel - see HEEL DECREASE! After heel dec, knit up 10-11-11 sts along each side of heel and slip the 24-24-26 sts from stitch holder back on needle = 54-56-60 sts. Insert a marker on each side of the middle 24-24-26 sts from stitch holder. Then work in stockinette st while at the same time dec in each side on every other round a total of 8-8-8 times as follows: K the last 2 sts before sts on upper foot twisted tog (i.e. in back loop of st instead of front), K the first 2 sts after sts on upper foot tog = 38-40-44 sts. Work until piece measures 18-20-22 cm / 7"-8"-8¾" from marker on heel (= approx. 4-4-5 cm / 1½"-1½"-2" remain). Insert a marker in each side so that there are 19-20-22 sts on upper foot and 19-20-22 sts under foot. Now dec for toe on each side of both markers: Dec as follows 3 sts before marker: K 2 tog, K1. Dec as follows after marker: K1, K 2 twisted tog. Continue dec in each side on every other round a total of 5-5-6 times and then on every round a total of 2-2-2 times = 10-12-12 sts remain on needle. On next round K2 tog around. Cut the yarn and pull it through the remaining sts, tighten tog and fasten. |
