How to pick up stitches on the side to a sock

In this DROPS video we show how to pick up stitches on the side to a sock and how to move stitches from a thread back onto needles. You can use 2 or several double pointed needles or a circular needle as we do in the video.
We use the yarn DROPS Snow in the video.

I am knitting slippers (Sweet Sara by DROPS Design Pattern no EE-334). I had just begun the right slipper and have already encountered a problem. Knitting the strap was easy, but then the directions state: "Cut the thread and put [strap] stitches on a holder" and then to "cast on 3 sts (toward the toes), work sts from holder [the strap] and cast on 6 sts toward the heel". Is there a video to show me what is meant by these directions? I am baffled!

DROPS Design :

Dear Mrs Opella, after you have worked the strap cut the yarn and put piece aside. Now cast on 3 stitches, work the stitches from the strap then cast on 6 stitches (as shown in this video - seen from RS the new 3 sts will be towards toe while the new 6 sts will be towards heel. Happy knitting!

In this DROPS video, we demonstrate how to knit up stitches around an armhole for a split-sleeve. We begin by showing you how to use a crochet hook to knit up stitches and transfer them onto a knitting needle. Then, we continue by showing you how to work with the stitches using knitting needles. Start at the bottom of the armhole (not directly under the sleeve) and knit up the number of stitches specified in your pattern, going as far as the other side of the armhole. Knit up the stitches within one stitch, which is often a garter stitch. Turn and work back, continuing back and forth to the measurement specified in your pattern, or use short rows for a better fit. Once completed, the sleeve is joined and worked in the round. Refer to your pattern for details on measurements, decreases, and the ribbed cuff. In this video, we demonstrate only 6–7 cm of the sleeve. Finally, sew together the hole under the sleeve. To make the seam and sewing easier to see, we use a contrasting color in the video. In this DROPS video we show how to knit up stitches around the neck to a jumper with a European shoulder, using a knitting needle or a crochet hook. Then follow the description in the pattern. There are many different ways to work a rib (e.g knit 1 / purl 1, knit 2 / purl 2, knit 1 twisted / 1 purl etc.). And you can work a single neck, double neck or a high neck. In this video we work a double neck with a rib worked like this: knit 2, purl 2, cast off with knit over knit and purl over purl and then fold the neck double to the inside and fasten down. In this video we work with 2 yarn qualities: DROPS Lima colour no. 9029 sage green and DROPS Kid-Silk colour no. 45 soft mint, needle size 5 mm. In this DROPS video we show how to knit up stitches to one sleeve, working short rows, decrease under the sleeve, increase stitches before the rib, switch to smaller needle and a little bit of the cast off (knit over knit, and purl over purl). Insert 1 marker on the top of armhole (NB: This is not where the stitches were knitted up for the front piece, but a few cm down on the front piece, this is the middle of the shoulder). Start in the middle of the new stitches cast on under sleeve and pick up the number of stitches it says in the pattern around the armhole – adjust so that there are the same number of stitches along armhole on each side of the marker. Now work stocking stitch back and forth with short rows over sleeve cap, to give the sleeve a better fit. Then work in the round with decreases under the sleeve. Follow the description in the pattern on how to work short rows, how and how many decreases, how long the sleeve should be and the rib. In this DROPS video we show how to knit up 1 stitch in each of the new stitches that was cast on under the sleeve. We knit 8 new stitches and put a marker (or a marker thread) in the middle of these stitches. In many patterns, you should decrease 1 stitch on each side of stitch of this marker (or marking thread). In this DROPS video we show how to increase to a thumb and how to pick up stitches to a thumb, like it is done to the right wrist warmer thumb in DROPS 214-37. We increase 1 stitch by making 1 yarn over, on next round work yarn over twisted. We knit 1, purl 1 (= rib). Work the increased stitches in rib, i.e. knit the first stitch, purl 2nd stitch etc. We increase in every other round and show 5 rounds with increases and how they are worked on next round. Then we show how to pick up 6 new stitches behind the thumb. These wrist warmers are worked in DROPS Baby Merino, but in the video we work with a thicker yarn; DROPS Snow.
