Bon tricot!

I'm just finishing the back piece but the casting off in the middle doesnt make sense to me. For size xl, It says cast off 1 middle stitch then a further stitch each side which should leave 18 sts either side but it doesn't. Should I cast off 10 sets initially the work each shoulder separatly?
16.12.2014 - 21:46DROPS Design answered:
Dear Mrs Davison, there is a typo in the English pattern, it will be corrected soon, you should cast off 11 sts for the neck in size XL then 1 more st each side towards neck. Thank you. Happy knitting!

I do not understand what the instructions for knitting the collar mean when pattern states "until the collar measures approx. 5cm inside towards the nape of neck - it will measure approx. 10 cm at the outside"(I am knitting size L) Many thanks.
11.12.2014 - 06:38DROPS Design answered:
Dear Mrs Hill, you work the collar with short rows, ie you will have more rows (= more length) towards middle front (opening) than towards shoulder (sts cast off for shoulder) to get the rounded shape for collar. When you have worked short rows until collar measures 5 cm towards sts cast off for shoulder (these will be sewn along neckline mid back), it should measures 10 cm towards outside (you will work the crocheted edge along this side). Happy knitting!

It should say that there's a slit at the sides instead of a slant. The sides are actually quite straight. Thanks to NordicMart for helping me out with that.

The dec aren't made at the same cm since in a bulky yarn it looks nicer to make them a bit separated from each other, that is why.

On the back, there's an increase at 15 cm and then decrease at 20 cm but on the front sides, there's an increase at 15 cm and decrease at 40 cm -- is that correct? Seems like it'd be difficult to sew up that way.

On the back of the sweater, it says at 50 cm. to knit the outermost 6 sts on each side in garter stitch and then on later rows to knit the outer 3 sts in garter stitch. It looked weird to go from 6 to 3 sts at the edges. Is this a mistake or is there a good reason for the change in number that I'm ignorant of?

Hi, This is lovely pattern and I'm looking forward to making it -- thanks! I just wanted to point out that there are directions given for the left front, and then *again* for the left front, where it says, "Cast on and knit as right front but reverse." So I guess the first time you meant the RIGHT FRONT?

Knitting gauge: 11 sts x 18 rows on needles size 7 mm = US 10,75 in stockinette sts = 10 x 10 cm = 4" x 4". Garter sts (back and forth on needle): Knit all rows. "Airy" garter sts (back and forth on needle): 2 rows of stockinette sts and P 1 row seen from the RS. Increasing tips: Inc inside 1 edge st as follows: Make a yo, on returning row twist and knit the st (To twist the st knit into the back of st instead of the front of st) to avoid a hole. Decreasing tips ( for the armhole): Dec inside 3 edge sts knitted in garter sts. All dec are done from the RS. Dec as follows after 3 sts in garter sts: Slip a st as if to knit, K1, psso. Dec as follows before 3 sts in garter sts: K 2 tog. ---------------------------------------------------------------- Back piece: Loosely cast on 50-55-61-65-71 sts on needles size 7 mm = US 10,75 in Inka. Knit 6 rows of garter sts. Continue in stockinette sts but knit the outermost st each side in garter sts until the piece measures 15 cm = 6" (=slant at the sides). When the piece measures 15 cm = 6" inc 1 st each side = 52-57-63-67-73 sts. When the piece measures 20 cm = 8" dec 1 st each side = 50-55-61-65-71 sts. When the piece measures 49-50-51-52-53 cm = 19¼"-19¾"-20"-20½"-21" knit 2 rows of garter sts over the outermost 6-6-6-7-8 sts each side (knit other sts as before). On the following row begin to dec for the armhole each side as follows: 3-3-3-4-5 sts 1 time and then on every other row – read decreasing tips:1 st 0-2-4-4-5 times = 44-45-47-49-51 sts. Continue in stockinette sts with 3 sts of garter sts each side. When the piece measures 68-70-72-74-76 cm = 26¾"-27½"-28⅜"-29⅛"-30" bind off the center 8-9-9-11-11 sts for the neck. On the following row bind off 1 more st each side towards the neck = 17-17-18-18-19 sts left for each shoulder. Bind off remaining sts when the piece measures 70-72-74-76-78 cm = 27½"-28⅜"-29⅛"-30"-30¾". Right front: Cast on 28-31-34-36-39 sts (incl. 3 edge sts towards the center front) on needles size 7 mm = US 10,75 in Inka. Knit 6 rows of garter sts. Continue in stockinette sts but knit the outermost 3 sts towards the center front edge in garter sts throughout (=front edge) + 1 st of garter sts at the side until the piece measures 15 cm = 6" (= slant for the side). When the piece measures 15 cm = 6" inc 1 st at the side = 29-32-35-37-40 sts. When the piece measures 40 cm = 15¾" dec 1 st each side = 28-31-34-36-39 sts. Please read all of the following section before continuing: When the piece measures 49-50-51-52-53 cm = 19¼"-19¾"-20"-20½"-21" dec for armhole as done for the back piece. Collar: At the same time when the piece measures 49-51-53-54-55 cm = 19¼"-20"-21"-21¼"-21⅝" inc 1 st towards the center front – read increasing tips! On the following 2 rows knit only the outermost 4 sts (do not knit other sts on needle). Knit the 4 sts in garter sts. Continue in garter sts for the front edge and for the new added sts (other sts are knitted in stockinette st). At the same time inc for the collar at the center front on every other row: 1 st 6 times and then on every 4th row: 1 st 4 times. When all dec and inc are completed = 36-37-38-39-40 sts. When the piece measures 70-72-74-76-78 cm = 27½"-28⅜"-29⅛"-30"-30¾" bind off the outermost 17-17-18-18-19 sts for the shoulder = 19-20-20-21-21 sts left for the collar. Continue to knit the collar and sew it to the back piece later. Continue as follows: *K 2 rows of garter sts over all sts, K 2 rows of garter sts only over the outermost 12-14-14-16-16 sts towards the center front*, repeat from *-* until the collar measures approx. 4.5-5-5-6-6 cm = 1¾"-2"-2"-2⅜"-2⅜" inside towards the nape of the neck – it will measure approx. 9-10-10-12-12 cm = 3½"-4"-4"-4¾"-4¾" at the outside. Put sts on a thread. Left front: Cast on and knit as right front but reverse. Sleeves: Cast on 27-31-31-32-32 sts (incl. of 1 edge st each side) on needles size 7 mm = US 10,75 in Inka. Knit 6 rows of garter sts. Continue in - "airy" garter sts – see explanation above. When the piece measures 10 cm = 4" change to stockinette sts until finished. When the piece measures 15 cm = 6" inc 1 st each side on every 4.5-5.5-3.5-3.5-2.5 cm = 1¾"-2⅛"-1¼"-1¼"-1" a total of 7-6-8-8-10 times = 41-43-47-48-52 sts. When the sleeve measures 45-45-44-43-42 cm = 17¾"-17¾"-17¼"-17"-16½" bind off for sleeve cap at each side on every other row as follows: 3 sts 1 time, 2 sts 1-1-1-2-2 times, 1 st 1-2-3-3-3 times. Continue to bind off 2 sts each side until the piece measures 51-52-52-52-52 cm = 20"-20½"-20½"-20½"-20½". Then bind off 3 sts each side and bind off remaining sts when the piece measures approx. 52-53-53-53-53 cm = 20½"-21"-21"-21"-21". Assembly: Sew the shoulder seams. Insert the sleeves. Sew the side and the sleeve seams inside 1 edge st and leave 15 cm = 6" at the bottom of the sides for the slant. Sew the collar tog at the center back with invisible mattress sts. Sew the collar on to the neckline at the nape of the neck – sew in the outer part of the edge to avoid a chunky seam. Belt: Cast on 7 sts on needles size 7 mm = US 10,75 in Inka and knit in garter sts until the belt measures approx. 150 cm = 56½". Bind off. Crochet edge: Crochet an edge with hook size 7 mm = US K or L in Inka all along the edge of the cardigan (this means along the bottom edge, in the slant, up along the front edge, around the collar and down along the other front edge) as follows: 1 sc in the 1st st, *2 ch, skip 1.5 cm = ½", 1 sc in the next st*, repeat from *-* and finish with a sl st in the first st. Crochet the same edge round the belt. |
