Garter on a few sts (back and forth)

Sometimes our patterns tell you to work a number of rows in garter st on the middle sts with remaining sts in stockinette or pattern as before. This is how we do it when working back and forth on needles.
The marked sts in the middle are knitted on all rows, while the sts each side in stockinette continues to knit from RS and purl from WS.

How to increase in an outermost stitch

In this DROPS video we show how we increase in an outermost stitch. First, we show how we increase before the maker-thread, then after the marker-thread. Increase before maker-thread: Work to the marker-thread, knit 1 in the strand of the stitch lying 2 rounds below outermost stitch on the right needle. Increase after maker-thread: Knit 1 in the loop lying around the outermost stitch on the left needle (i.e., stitch from previous round). We use the yarn DROPS Snow in the video. How to knit 1 – purl 1 – knit 1 in the same stitch

In this DROPS video we show how we increase 2 stitches by knitting 3 stitches in 1 stitch. We work stockinette stitch and back and forth. How to do an Italian bind off with Knit 1 and Purl 1

In this DROPS video we show how to do an Italian bind off to a rib with knit 1 / purl 1 by sewing the bind off edge with needle and thread. With this technique we get an elastic bind off that is perfect for example on toe up socks, edge around neck, a shawl edge or sleeve edges when working top down. Cut yarn long enough for your bind off, approx 3-4 times the length of the edge you are binding off. Part 1: Start from the right side (the first stitch should be a knit stitch). Insert the needle into the 1st stitch as if to knit, lift the stitch off the needle, insert the needle into the 2nd stitch on the left needle (= knit stitch) as if to purl. Pull the thread through these 2 stitches (= 1 stitch bind off). How to work German Short Rows – with a double stitch round on the needle

German short rows = The work is turned in the middle of a row. When working short rows, there will be a small hole - this can be closed by tightening the thread or using the German short row technique. Row 1 (= right side): Knit until where the piece is to be turned, turn, when it is knitted further there will be a small hole at the turn - this hole can be closed like this: Row 2 (= wrong side): Slip the 1st stitch from the left needle as if to purl, have the thread at the front towards you, place the thread over the right needle and tighten the thread well before purling the next stitch = the first stitch on the right needle has now become a double stitch (with a stitch and a thread). Purl until where the work is to be turned. Turn the work.
