------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATIONS FOR THE PATTERN: ------------------------------------------------------- PATTERN: See diagrams A.1 to A.3. Choose diagram for your size (applies A.2). The diagrams show the pattern from the right side. Due to the laced-cable, the stitch count in A.1 and A.3 will vary. Always count stitches without the increased/decreased stitches (i.e., A.1a always 26 stitches and A.1b always 5 stitches). DECREASE TIP-1: All decreases are worked from the right side! BEGINNING OF ROW: Knit 2, slip 1 stitch knit-wise, knit 1 and pass the slipped stitch over the knitted stitch (1 stitch decreased). END OF ROW: Work until there are 4 stitches left on the row, knit 2 together, knit 2 (1 stitch decreased). KNITTING TIP: When working short rows, there will be a small hole after each turn. This hole can be closed by tightening the strand or using the technique German Short Rows as follows: Slip the first stitch purl-wise, take the strand over the right needle and tighten well from the back (2 loops on the needle). These loops are worked together on the next row. DECREASE TIP-2: Decrease 1 stitch on each side of the marker thread as follows: Work until there are 3 stitches left before the marker thread, knit 2 together, knit 2 (marker thread sits between these 2 stitches) slip 1 stitch knit-wise, knit 1 and pass the slipped stitch over the knitted stitch (2 stitches decreased). ------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ------------------------------------------------------- SWEATER – SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE. The pattern uses both long and short needles; start with the length which fits the number of stitches and change when necessary. The piece is worked in the round with circular needle bottom up as far as the armholes, then divided for the front and back pieces which are finished separately back and forth. Pattern is worked on both the front and back pieces. The shoulder seams are sewn. Stitches are knitted up around the armholes for the sleeves, which are begun back and forth with short rows for the sleeve cap, then finished in the round. Stitches are knitted up along the neckline and the neck is worked in the round to finish. If there is a «0» in your chosen size, skip the information and go straight to the next instruction. BODY: Cast on 188-204-224-240-260-284-304 stitches with circular needle size 3.5 MM = US 4, 1 strand DROPS Nord and 1 strand DROPS Kid-Silk (2 strands) or 1 strand DROPS Alpaca and 1 strand DROPS Kid-Silk (2 strands). Work rib in the round (knit 1, purl 1) for 5-5-5-5-6-6-6 cm = 2"-2"-2"-2"-2⅜"-2⅜"-2⅜". Insert 1 marker-thread at the beginning of the round and 1 marker-thread after 94-102-112-120-130-142-152 stitches = sides. Change to circular needle size 5 MM = US 8. Knit 1 round and increase 44-40-48-44-48-44-44 stitches as follows: Knit 7-10-13-16-18-23-28, knit 80-82-86-88-94-96-96 and increase 22-20-24-22-24-22-22 stitches evenly across these stitches (=102-102-110-110-118-118-118 stitches), knit 14-20-26-32-36-46-56, knit 80-82-86-88-94-96-96 and increase 22-20-24-22-24-22-22 stitches evenly across these stitches (=102-102-110-110-118-118-118 stitches), knit 7-10-13-16-18-23-28 = 232-244-272-284-308-328-348 stitches. Now work PATTERN – read explanation above, as follows: Knit 7-10-13-16-18-23-28, work A.1 (= 31 stitches), A.2 (= 40-40-48-48-56-56-56 stitches), A.3 (= 31 stitches), knit 14-20-26-32-36-46-56, work A.1 (= 31 stitches), A.2 (= 40-40-48-48-56-56-56 stitches), A.3 (= 31 stitches), knit 7-10-13-16-18-23-28. Continue this pattern. Remember to maintain the knitting gauge. Work until the piece measures 34-35-36-37-38-39-40 cm = 13⅜"-13¾"-14¼"-14½"-15"-15¼"-15¾", finishing after an even row in the pattern (you then continue to work the cables from the right side when working back and forth). Now divide for the armholes. DIVIDE FOR ARMHOLES: Bind off the first 2-3-4-4-5-5-7 stitches, work 112-116-128-134-144-154-160 stitches as before, bind off 4-6-8-8-10-10-14 stitches, work 112-116-128-134-144-154-160 stitches as before, bind off the last 2-3-4-4-5-5-7 stitches. Cut the strand. The front and back pieces are finished separately, back and forth. BACK PIECE: = 112-116-128-134-144-154-160 stitches. From the wrong side: Continue the pattern back and forth, decreasing 1 stitch on each side - read DECREASE TIP-1, every 2nd row 2-3-5-6-8-12-13 times = 108-110-118-122-128-130-134 stitches. When the piece measures 51-53-55-57-59-61-63 cm = 20"-21"-21⅝"-22½"-23¼"-24"-24¾", bind off the middle 40-40-48-48-56-56-56 stitches for the neckline (binding off from the right side on row-3, row-7 or row-11 in the pattern). Finish each shoulder separately. SHOULDER: From the wrong side. Continue patterns A.2a/A.3a (= 26 stitches), but across patterns A.2.b/A.3b (= 5 stitches) only knit above knit and purl above purl. AT THE SAME TIME bind off on each row from the neckline as follows: 2 stitches 2 times, then 1 stitch 1 time (= 5 stitches bind off) = 29-30-30-32-31-32-34 shoulder-stitches. Bind off when the piece measures 54-56-58-60-62-64-66 cm = 21¼"-22"-22¾"-23⅝"-24⅜"-25¼"-26". FRONT PIECE: = 112-116-128-134-144-154-160 stitches. From the wrong side: Continue the pattern back and forth, decreasing 1 stitch on each side - remember DECREASE TIP-1, every 2nd row 2-3-5-6-8-12-13 times = 108-110-118-122-128-130-134 stitches. When the piece measures 48-49-50-51-52-53-54 cm = 19"-19¼"-19¾"-20"-20½"-21"-21¼", place the middle 40-40-48-48-56-56-56 stitches on a stitch holder for the neckline. Finish each shoulder separately. SHOULDER: From the wrong side. Continue the pattern back and forth across A.2a/A.3a (= 26 stitches), but across patterns A.2.b/A.3b (= 5 stitches) only knit above knit and purl above purl. AT THE SAME TIME bind off on each row from the neckline as follows: 2 stitches 1 time, then 1 stitch 3 times (= 5 stitches bind off) = 29-30-30-32-31-32-34 shoulder-stitches. Bind off when the piece measures 54-56-58-60-62-64-66 cm = 21¼"-22"-22¾"-23⅝"-24⅜"-25¼"-26". ASSEMBLY: Sew the shoulder seams. SLEEVES: Work from the armhole downwards. Use circular needle size 3.5 MM = US 4 and 1 strand of each quality (2 strands). Insert 1 marker in the shoulder seam. Start in the middle of the bind-off stitches under the sleeve and knit up 68-74-80-84-90-94-102 stitches, with equal numbers of stitches on both sides of the shoulder-marker. Change to circular needle size 5 MM = US 8. Work stockinette stitch with short rows back and forth for the sleeve cap (to give the sleeve a better shape), starting mid-under the sleeve as follows: ROW 1 (right side): Knit to 6 stitches past the shoulder-marker, turn – read KNITTING TIP. ROW 2 (wrong side): Purl to 6 stitches past the marker, turn. ROW 3 (right side): Knit to 4-4-4-3-3-3-3 stitches past the previous turn, turn. ROW 4 (wrong side): Purl to 4-4-4-3-3-3-3 stitches past the previous turn, turn. Repeat ROWS 3 and 4 until you have turned a total of 12-14-16-18-20-24-26 times (= 6-7-8-9-10-12-13 times each side, with the last row from the wrong side). AFTER THE LAST TURN: After working row-4 for the last time, turn and knit back to mid-under the sleeve. Insert 1 marker-thread here, which is used when decreasing for the sleeve. Allow the thread to follow your work onwards. Work stockinette stitch in the round. AT THE SAME TIME, when the sleeve measures 1 cm = ⅜" from the join, decrease mid-under the sleeve – read DECREASE TIP-2 as follows: Decrease 2 stitches every 5-4-3-2½-2-2-1½ cm = 2"-1½"-1⅛"-1"-¾"-¾"-½" a total of 8-10-12-14-16-17-20 times = 52-54-56-56-58-60-62 stitches. Continue working until the sleeve measures 45-45-45-45-45-45-45 cm = 17¾"-17¾"-17¾"-17¾"-17¾"-17¾"-17¾" from the shoulder. Change to double pointed needles size 3.5 MM = US 4. Work rib (knit 1, purl 1), AT THE SAME TIME increase 16-16-16-16-16-18-18 stitches evenly on the first round = 68-70-72-72-74-78-80 stitches. When the rib measures 8-8-8-8-9-9-9 cm = 3⅛"-3⅛"-3⅛"-3⅛"-3½"-3½"-3½", bind off with rib. The sleeve measures approx. 53-53-53-53-54-54-54 cm = 21"-21"-21"-21"-21¼"-21¼"-21¼" from the shoulder. NECK: Use circular needle size 3.5 MM = US 4 and 1 strand of each quality (2 strands). Start at one shoulder seam and knit up 118 to 164 stitches (including the stitches from the stitch holder and knitting up inside 1 stitch). Purl 1 round, then knit 1 round and adjust the stitch count to 86-88-98-100-110-112-114 stitches (must be divisible by 2). Work rib (knit 1, purl 1) in the round for 4-4-4-4-5-5-5 cm = 1½"-1½"-1½"-1½"-2"-2"-2". Bind off with rib. |
