Good Day! This is such a lovely dress. Can you provide instructions to work this project on the rounds? Thank you :) Stephanie

Hi Stephanie, The dress is worked in the round after you have finished the yoke. The front and back pieces need to be worked separately, back and forth on the yoke to work the armholes . Regards, Drops Team

------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATIONS FOR THE PATTERN: ------------------------------------------------------- GARTER STITCH (worked back and forth): Knit all rows, from both the right and wrong side. 1 ridge in height = knit 2 rows. INCREASE TIP-1: INCREASE 1 STITCH TOWARDS THE LEFT – from right side: Use the left needle to pick up the strand between 2 stitches from the previous row, pick up strand from the front and knit the back loop. INCREASE 1 STITCH TOWARDS THE RIGHT - from right side Use the left needle to pick up the strand between 2 stitches from the previous row, pick up strand from the back and knit the front loop. INCREASE 1 STITCH TOWARDS THE LEFT – from wrong side: Use the left needle to pick up the strand between 2 stitches from the previous row, pick up strand from the back and purl the front loop. INCREASE 1 STITCH TOWARDS THE RIGHT – from wrong side: Use the left needle to pick up the strand between 2 stitches from the previous row, pick up strand from the front and purl the back loop. INCREASE TIP-2: Increase 1 stitch as follows, on each side of the marker-stitch: Start mid-under the sleeve, work the marker-stitch, work 4 stitches, make 1 yarn over, work until there are 4 stitches left before the next marker-stitch, make 1 yarn over, knit 9 (marker sits in the middle stitch), make 1 yarn over, work until there are 4 stitches left before the beginning of the round, make 1 yarn over, work to end of round (= 4 increased stitches). On the next round, work the yarn overs as follows: BEFORE MARKER-STITCH: Slip the yarn over off the left needle and replace it twisted (insert the left needle through the back when replacing it). Knit the front loop to avoid a hole. Then work the new stitch in stockinette stitch. AFTER MARKER-STITCH: Knit through the back loop to avoid a hole. Then work the new stitch in stockinette stitch. ROUND BIND-OFF - (the stitches are picked up from the wrong side and the bind off will give a round edge on the right side of piece to prevent the work from rolling): Bind-off round: Find the stitch that is 2 rounds directly under the next stitch on the needle. Pick up this stitch in the top loop from the wrong side and lift it onto the left needle. Knit this loop and the first stitch together. * Pick up the next stitch in the loop in the same way and knit it together with the next stitch on the needle. Bind off by slipping the 1st stitch over the 2nd stitch *. Repeat from *-* until all stitches have been bind off. Cut and fasten the strand at the beginning of the bind off. ------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ------------------------------------------------------- DRESS - SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE: The pattern uses both long and short needles; start with the length which fits the number of stitches and change when necessary. The dress is worked top down, the front and back pieces worked separately back and forth until the armholes are finished, then joined and the dress is finished in the round. If there is a «0» in your chosen size, skip the information and go straight to the next instruction. SHOULDER STRAPS: Cast on 11-11-11-13-13-13 stitches with needle size 5 MM = US 8 and DROPS Paris. Work as follows from the wrong side: 1 GARTER STITCH – read description above, purl 1, * knit 1, purl 1 *, work from *-* until there is 1 stitch left, 1 garter stitch. Continue this rib, with 1 garter stitch on each side, for 7-7-7-8-8-8 cm = 2¾"-2¾"-2¾"-3⅛"-3⅛"-3⅛", with the last row from the right side. Cut the strand and lay the piece to one side. Work 1 more strap in the same way but do not cut the strand. Join the straps for the front piece as follows: Turn and work the second strap from the wrong side, cast on 21-23-25-25-27-29 stitches, work the first strap from the wrong side = 43-45-47-51-53-55 stitches. FRONT PIECE: = 43-45-47-51-53-55 stitches. Work next row as follows from the right side: 1 garter stitch, rib (knit 1, purl 1) until there is 1 stitch left, 1 garter stitch. Work this rib with 1 garter stitch on each side back and forth for 2 cm = ¾", with the last row from the wrong side. Now continue rib and garter stitch across the first and last 10-10-10-12-12-12 stitches, with stockinette stitch across the other stitches, increasing for the armholes on each side – read INCREASE TIP-1, as follows, working from the right side: 1 edge stitch in garter stitch, continue the rib across the next 9-9-9-11-11-11 stitches, increase 1 stitch towards the right, work stockinette stitch until there are 10-10-10-12-12-12 stitches left, increase 1 stitch towards the left, continue the rib across the next 9-9-9-11-11-11 stitches, 1 edge stitch in garter stitch. Continue increasing like this (inside 10-10-10-12-12-12 stitches on each side) every 2nd row (each row from the right side) a total of 8-9-11-10-9-8 times, then every row 0-0-0-2-6-10 times = 59-63-69-75-83-91 stitches. The last row is from the wrong side. The piece measures approx. 17-18-19-20-21-22 cm = 6¾"-7"-7½"-8"-8¼"-8¾" from the cast-on edge and 10-11-12-12-13-14 cm = 4"-4⅜"-4¾"-4¾"-5⅛"-5½" from the cast-on stitches mid-front. Remember to maintain the knitting gauge. Cut the strand and lay the piece to one side. BACK PIECE: Work straps and back piece in the same way as the front. Do not cut the strand. On the next row from the right side join the front and back pieces as follows: Place 1 marker-thread on the needle (beginning of round), work rib (purl 1, knit 1) across the first 10-10-10-12-12-12 stitches, stockinette stitch across the next 39-43-49-51-59-67 stitches, rib (knit 1, purl 1) across the next 10-10-10-12-12-12 stitches, cast on 9-11-13-15-17-19 stitches *, work from *-* 1 more time across the front piece (from the right side) = 136-148-164-180-200-220 stitches. BODY: = 136-148-164-180-200-220 stitches. Insert 1 marker in the middle of the cast-on stitches on each side - allow them to follow your work onwards; they are used when increasing for the skirt. Work stockinette stitch in the round, with 29-31-33-39-41-43 ribbed stitches on each side, for 2 cm = ¾". (the markers sit in the middle of these 29-31-33-39-41-43 stitches). Now continue with stockinette stitch across all stitches When the piece measures 32-34-36-38-40-42 cm = 12½"-13⅜"-14¼"-15"-15¾"-16½" from the cast-on edge on the straps, begin increasing for the skirt – read INCREASE TIP-2. Increase like this every 2½-2½-3-3-3-2½ cm = 1"-1"-1⅛"-1⅛"-1⅛"-1" a total of 16-16-15-15-15-16 times = 200-212-224-240-260-284 stitches. Continue working until the piece measures 84-87-90-93-96-98 cm = 33"-34¼"-35½"-36⅝"-37¾"-38½" when flat. When the dress is worn, the weight will make the length stretch to approx. 90-93-96-100-103-105 cm = 35½"-36⅝"-37¾"-39⅜"-40½"-41⅜". Try the dress on and work to desired length. Bind off with ROUND BIND-OFF read description above. ASSEMBLY: Sew the shoulder straps together. |
