Bon tricot!

I made these, but it feels as if the needle size is wrong. Socks turned out way too big, while I nornally have no issues with size and knitting tension. Made size 38-40 for my girlfriend but they were too big even for my size 42 feet. Tried to shrink them in the wash but that just ruined them :(

Dear Paula, just remember to always check your tension - you should have here 24 stitches x 32 rows = 10 x 10 cm, they are worked with needle size 3,5 ie somewhat looser as other socks knitted with smaller needles. Hapy knitting!

------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATIONS FOR THE PATTERN: ------------------------------------------------------- WORKING TOGETHER THE HEEL-STITCHES: All the rows are worked from the wrong side. Turn and purl the first 13-14-15 stitches from the wrong side. Make sure the strand is at the back of the piece (= on the right side) and work as follows: LEFT NEEDLE: Knit 2 twisted together, place the knitted-together stitch back on the left needle, tighten the strand. Do not turn. RIGHT NEEDLE: Insert the left needle into the 2 next stitches on the right needle (insert from left to right and with the needle behind the right needle), take the strand around the left needle, pull it through these 2 stitches (from right to left) and slip the 2 stitches off the right needle. Pass the knitted-together stitch back onto the right needle and tighten the strand. Do not turn. Repeat LEFT and RIGHT NEEDLE until there are 2 stitches left. ------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ------------------------------------------------------- SOCKS - SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE: The piece is worked in the round with double pointed needles, top down. SOCK: Cast on 64-68-72 stitches with double pointed needles size 3 MM = US 2.5 and DROPS Fabel. Work rib (knit 2, purl 2) for 3 cm = 1⅛". Change to double pointed needles size 3.5 MM = US 4 and knit 1 round where you decrease 10 stitches evenly spaced = 54-58-62 stitches. Continue with stockinette stitch. REMEMBER THE KNITTING GAUGE! When the piece measures 11-13-15 cm = 4⅜"-5⅛"-6", keep the first 26-28-30 stitches on the needle for the heel and place the last 28-30-32 stitches on 1 thread (= top of foot). Work stockinette stitch back and forth over the heel-stitches, AT THE SAME TIME on the first row increase 4 stitches evenly spaced = 30-32-34 stitches. Work until the heel measures 6-6-6½ cm = 2⅜"-2⅜"-2½", insert 1 marker in the middle of the last row; it is used to measure the foot. On the next row from the right side work as follows: Knit 11-12-13, knit together the next 8 stitches 2 and 2, knit the last 11-12-13 stitches = 26-28-30 stitches. Turn and purl back. Knit 1 row from the right side. Now work back and forth from the wrong side as described in WORKING TOGETHER THE HEEL-STITCHES above. When the heel stitches have been worked together, place the 2 remaining stitches on the right needle and turn the piece to the right side. Knit up 14-14-16 stitches along the first side of the heel, place the 28-30-32 stitches from the thread back on the needles and work them, knit up 14-14-16 stitches along the other side of the heel = 58-60-66 stitches. Knit 1 round and decrease 6-4-6 stitches evenly spaced = 52-56-60 stitches. Continue working until the foot measures 18-19-21 cm = 7"-7½"-8¼" from the marker (4-5-6 cm = 1½"-2"-2⅜" left to finished length). Insert 1 marker in each side, with 26-28-30 stitches both on top and under the foot. Continue working stockinette stitch, AT THE SAME TIME decrease for the toe on each side of both markers as follows: Before marker: Knit 2 together. After marker: Knit 2 twisted together. Repeat these decreases every 2nd round a total of 4-7-9 times, then every round 6-3-2 times = 12-16-16 stitches. On the next round knit all stitches together 2 and 2. Cut the strand, pull it through the remaining stitches, tighten and fasten well. Work the other sock in the same way. |
