Hejsa.

Pattern is worked in the round with relief stitches. What is a relief stitch?
11.12.2021 - 01:00DROPS Design answered:
Dear Judith, this is a type of crochet stitch that gives relief to the garnment (hence the name). You can check how to work it in the following video: https://www.garnstudio.com/video.php?id=205&lang=en Happy crochetting!

Hi, is it possible there is a mistake in the gauge swatch? It says (Dutch version) 8dc = 10cm, but I am really far from that stitch count. I think for a 4mm needle 8dc = 10cm seems odd, I need to roughly double the number of stitches. I also think that if 8dc = 10cm, and you start with a round of 78/84 st, the hat will become quite big...
18.10.2021 - 10:51DROPS Design answered:
Dear Mayke, there was a mistake in the tension, it should have been 16 sts dc (US-English) = 10 cm, a correction will be added, thanks for your feedback. Happy crochetingn!

------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATIONS FOR THE PATTERN: ------------------------------------------------------- CHAIN STITCH: If you work outermost on the hook the chain stitch will often be too tight; 1 chain stitch should be as long as 1 double crochet is wide. CROCHET INFORMATION: At the beginning of each round of double crochets, work 3 chain stitches which replace the first double crochet, i.e. skip the first double crochet/chain stitch from the previous round. The round finishes with 1 slip stitch in the 3rd chain stitch at the beginning of the round. At the beginning of each round of single crochets work 1 chain stitch, which replaces the first single crochet. The round finishes with 1 slip stitch in the first chain stitch at the beginning of the round. PATTERN: See diagrams A.1 and A.2. DECREASE TIP: Work 2 single crochets together as follows: Insert the hook through the first stitch, pick up the strand, insert the hook through the next stitch and pick up the strand (= 3 loops on the hook), make 1 yarn over and pull it through all 3 loops (= 1 stitch decreased). ------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ------------------------------------------------------- HAT – SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE: The piece is worked in the round with relief-stitches. HAT: Work 78-84 chain stitches – read CHAIN STITCH, with hook size 4 MM = US 6 and 1 strand of each quality (= 2 strands), form them into a ring with 1 slip stitch in the first chain stitch worked. Read CROCHET INFORMATION and crochet 1 double crochet in each stitch of the round. Work pattern A.1 in the round. REMEMBER THE CROCHET GAUGE! When the piece measures 12 cm = 4¾", turn the piece and work from the opposite direction. The previous right side (i.e. the side with the visible relief-stitches) is now on the inside; continue in the round with relief-stitches on the other side. The relief-stitches from the beginning of the piece will be on the right side when the edge is folded up. Work 1 round with 1 double crochet in each double crochet. Then continue from the arrow in A.1. When the piece measures 25-27 cm = 9¾"-10⅝", work A.2 over each repeat of A.1. When A.2 has been worked in height, there are 26-28 stitches on the round. On the next round, work 1 all single crochets together 2 and 2 – read DECREASE TIP (= 13-14 stitches decreased) = 13-14 single crochets. Work 1 round with 1 single crochet in each stitch. Work 1 round where all single crochets are worked together 2 and 2 until there is 1-0 stitch left on the round, work 1-0 single crochet = 7-7 single crochets. Cut the strands, tack them through the remaining stitches, pull tight and fasten well. The hat measures 32-34 cm = 12½"-13⅜" (approx. 22-24 cm = 8¾"-9½" with 10 cm = 4" turn-up). |
