Bon tricot!

How many skeins would I need with 50G weight mohair ... I'm not clear on what THE MEANING: 50 g./103 yards OR THIS 350 (350, 400) g450 (500, 550) g. How many stitches per inch. Is there a way to determine my gauge using this stitch? I've got an armoire of yarn and would like to AVOID the yarn store! Thanks!

Hi Jill, The amounts given are for when using Melody yarn, but the most important factor is the knitting tension. You need to know the number of stitches and rows which will make 10 x 10 cm and then convert the pattern numbers given to fit your wool - so we have 14 stitches x 19 rows using melody. If your yarn is different you will need to cast on the right number of stitches and work the right number of rows for your size and the yarn: takes a little maths, but is doable, Happy knitting!

Gauge: 16 sts and 16 rows in pattern = 10 x 10 cm [4» x 4»] Garter Stitch, when knitting flat: Knit all sts, all rows. Garter Stitch, when knitting in the round: *Rnd 1, knit. Rnd 2, purl *. Repeat from * - *. Pattern: The pattern is divisible by 4 sts. 1st and 3rd row (right side): Purl. 2nd row (wrong side): *K 1, P 1, K 1 in the same stitch, P 3 tog in next st*, repeat from *-* throughout the row. 4th row: *P 3 tog, in the next stitch K 1, P 1, K 1*, repeat from *-* throughout the row. Repeat 1st-4th rows continuously. Front: Cast on 94 (98-102) sts (including 1 edge st on either side for seam which are worked in garter st throughout) and knit 2 rows garter st. Change to Pattern and work to finished dimensions. When the work measures 45 (49-51) cm, shape armholes: bind off at each side edge every other row: 3 sts 2 times, 2 sts 2 times, dec 1 st 3 times = 68 (72-76) sts. When the work measures 63 (67-70) cm, bind off the center 14 (16-16) sts for the neck. Then bind off at each neck edge every other row: 3 sts 1 time, 2 sts 2 times, dec 1 st 1 time. Bind off all sts when the work measures 70 (74-77) cm. Back: Cast on and work the same as the front, but work even after the armhole shaping until the work measures 68 (72-75) cm. Bind off the center 26 (28-28) sts for the neck. Then bind off 2 sts at each neck edge on the next row. Bind off all sts when the work measures 70 (74-77) cm. Sleeves: Cast on 42 (46-46) sts (including 1 edge st at each side edge for seam worked in garter st throughout) and knit 2 rows garter st. Change to Pattern and work to finished dimensions. At the same time, when the work measures 3 cm, inc 1 st at each side every 3rd row 20 (18-20) times = 82 (82-86) sts. Do not knit the increased sts into the Pattern until the number of increased sts on each side constitutes a whole repeat. When the work measures 44 (43-43) cm, shape sleeve caps: bind off at each side every other row: 3 sts 9 times, bind off all sts. The work measures approx. 54 cm. Assembly: Sew shoulder seams. Sew the sleeves to the body. Sew sleeve seam and side seam in one. Pick up approx. 70-80 sts around the neck on and knit 2 rows garter st, bind off all sts loosely. |
