Gauge: Cotton Chenille: 14 sts x 26 rows in stockinette stitch = 10 x 10 cm [4"x4"]. *** "Eye" pattern: 1st row (right side): Knit. 2nd row: Knit 1 (edge stitch). * Make a double "eye" as follows: Wind the yarn 3 times around the left index and center fingers. Knit the next stitch together with the 3 "eye" strands on the fingers. Now drop the "eyes" off the fingers. The sts are continued on the left needle; lay the "main" strand over the left index finger and simultaneously hold the 2 "eyes" closely against the work with the same finger. Knit 1 st in the back part of the same stitch. Now there are 4 sts on the needles. Slide them over onto the right needle. Pass the 3 right sts over the first stitch = 1 "eye" stitch, knit 1 *. Repeat from * - *, finish with Knit 1. 3rd row: Knit. 4th row: Knit 1 st = edge stitch. * Knit 1 stitch, 1 "eye" stitch (see instructions from the 2nd row) *, knit 1 edge stitch. Repeat 1st row-4th row continuously. Pattern: See charts. The pattern is seen from the right side. Left front: Cast on 38 (40-42) sts (includes 1 edge st at each side knit in garter st throughout) with Cotton Chenille and establish pattern as follows (1st row is a right side row): K 1 edge st, purl 0 (1-2) sts, knit Pattern 1 until 1 (2-3) sts, purl 0 (1-2) sts, K 1 edge st. When the work measures 4 cm [1-⅝"], knit as follows: 1 edge st, 14 (15-16) sts stockinette stitch, Pattern 2, 20 (21-22) sts stockinette stitch, 1 edge st (the cable of Pattern 2 should be placed directly over the cable from Pattern 1). When the work measures 5 cm [2"], dec 1 st on each side of Pattern 2. Decrease as follows: Before Pattern 2: K 2 tog. After Pattern 2: slip 1, knit 1, pass the slipped stitch over (psso). Repeat these decreases when the work measures 10 cm [4"] and 15 cm [5-⅞"]. 32 (34-36) sts. When the work measures 20 cm [7-⅞"], inc 1 st on each side of Pattern 2. Increase as follows:*** inc on the outside of sts on each side of Pattern 2. Then inc 1 st on each side of Pattern 2 when the work measures 28 cm [11"]. 36 (38-40) sts. As you continue, inc 1 st at the side of Pattern 2 at the center front and 1 st at the side of Pattern 2 at the side edge/armhole: 1 st 13 (13-12) times. Size S: every 3rd row. Size M: alternately every 3rd and every 4th row. Size L: every 4th row. At the same time, when the work measures 33 (34-36) cm [13" (13-⅜" - 14-⅛")], bind off for armholes at the side every other row: 3 sts 1 time, 2 sts 2 times, 1 st 2 (3-5) times. 27 (28-28) sts When the work measures 48 (49-51) cm [18-⅞" (19.25" - 20")], bind off at the neck edge every other row: 4 (4-5) sts 1 time, 2 sts 2 times, 1 st 3 times. Bind off when the work measures 56 (58-60) cm [22" (22-⅞" - 23-⅝")]. Right front: Cast on and knit as on the left front, but instead of Pattern 1 knit Pattern 3 and instead of Pattern 2 knit Pattern 4. inc and bind off on the opposite side. Back: Cast on 74 (78-82) sts (includes 2 edge sts) with olive and knit as follows (1st row = right side row): 1 edge stitch, size M: purl 1 stitch, Pattern 2, purl 2 sts, size L: Pattern 2, purl 2 sts, sizes S+M+L: Pattern 1 6 times, Pattern 3 6 (5-6) times, size M: purl 2 sts, Pattern 4, purl 1 stitch, size L: purl 2 sts, Pattern 4, sizes S+M+L: 1 edge stitch. When the work measures 4 cm [1-⅝"] knit as follows: 1 edge stitch, 20 (19-18) sts stockinette stitch, Pattern 2, 28 (34-40) sts stockinette stitch, Pattern 4, 20 (19-18) sts stockinette stitch, 1 edge stitch (see to it that Pattern 2 and Pattern 4 are placed so that one of the cables from Pattern 1 and Pattern 3 continues upwards). When the work measures 5 cm [2"] dec 1 st on each side of Pattern 2 and Pattern 4. dec as follows: Before Pattern 2 / Pattern 4: Knit 2 sts together, after Pattern 2 / Pattern 4: slip one, knit 1, pass slipped stitch over. dec 1 st on each side of Pattern 2 and Pattern 4 when the work measures 10 cm [4"] and when the work measures 15 cm [5-⅞"]. 62 (66-70) sts When the work measures 20 cm [7-⅞"] , inc 1 st on each side of Pattern 2 and Pattern 4. inc as follows: inc on the outside of Pattern 2 and Pattern 4 so that the sts on each side of Pattern 2 and Pattern 4 come to lie neatly upwards. Then inc 1 st on each side of Pattern 2 and Pattern 4 when the work measures 28 cm [11"]. 70 (74-78) sts. As you continue upwards, inc 1 st at the side of Pattern 2 and Pattern 4 at the center back and dec 1 st at the side of Pattern 2 and Pattern 4 at the side/armhole as on the front. At the same time, when the work measures 33 (34-36) cm [13" (13-⅜" - 14-⅛")], bind off for armholes as on the front. 52 (54-54) sts. When the work measures 54 (56-58) cm [21.25" (22" - 22-⅞")], bind off the center 16 (16-18) sts for the neck. Then bind off 2 sts on each side of the neck edge on the next row. Bind off when the work measures 56 (58-60) cm [22" (22-⅞" - 23-⅝")]. Sleeves: Knit the sleeve back and forth on circular needles because the chenille yarn can have a tendency to twist itself when it is knitted around. Cast on 38 (40-40) sts (includes 2 edge sts for the seam) with olive and knit 6 cm [2-⅜"] in stockinette stitch, purl 1 row (for folding edge. Measure the work from here). Change to Vamp and knit "eye" pattern for 6 cm [2-⅜"]. Change back to olive chenille and knit stockinette stitch upwards and at the same time inc on each side: 1 st 12 (12-13) times on every 3-3-2.5 cm [1.25" (1.25" - 1")] = 62 (64-66) sts When the work measures 44 (44-43) cm [17.25" (17.25" - 16-⅞")], bind off on each side for sleeve caps every other row: 3 sts 1 time, 2 sts 4 (4-3) times, 1 st 9 (9-13) times, 2 sts 2 (2-1) times, 3 sts 1 time. Bind off. The work measures approximately 57 (57-57) cm [22.5"]. Assembly: Sew shoulder seams. Pick up approximately 62-68 sts (divisible by 6 sts) along the left front on 4mm/US 6 circular needles with olive chenille and knit Pattern 1 for 3 cm [1.25"] back and forth on the needles. Bind off. Repeat along the right front, but after 1 cm [3/8"] knit 6 buttonholes evenly distributed on the row. 1 buttonhole = bind off 2 sts and cast on 2 new sts over the bound-off sts on the next row. Knit the uppermost buttonhole approximately 1 cm [3/8"] from the edge, the lowermost buttonhole approximately 1.5 cm [5/8"] from the edge. Pick up approximately 48-54 sts around the neck from the right side on 4mm/US 6 circular needles with Vamp and knit "eye" pattern for 6 cm [2-⅜"] back and forth on the needles, change to olive chenille and purl 1 row (for folding edge), knit 6 cm [2 /38"] in stockinette stitch. Bind off loosely. Sew sleeve seam and side seam. Fold the edges over against the wrong side and sew. Sew on the sleeves and buttons. |
