Mvh DROPS Design

My first sweater and I'm a little nervous. For the neck ribbing, instructions say 7cm ribbing including turning edge. Finishing instructions make it seem the turning edge is halfway so I am knitting 3.5cm ribbing, turning row, then another 3.5cm ribbing and when it is done only 3.5cm will be visible, correct?
07.03.2020 - 12:09DROPS Design answered:
Hi Matt, Yes, you will have a neck which is 3.5 cm in height. Happy knitting!

Bon tricot!

------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATIONS FOR THE PATTERN: ------------------------------------------------------- PATTERN: See diagram A.1. The diagram is worked in stockinette stitch. INCREASE TIP (evenly spaced): To work out how to increase evenly, count the total number of stitches on the needle (e.g. 82 stitches) and divide by the number of increases to be made (e.g. 4) = 20.5. In this example, increase by making 1 yarn over after alternately each 20th and 21st stitch. On the next round knit the yarn overs twisted to avoid holes. DECREASE TIP (for sleeves): Decrease 1 stitch on each side of the marker thread as follows: Work until there are 3 stitches left before the marker thread, knit 2 together, knit 2 (marker thread sits between these 2 stitches), slip 1 stitch as if to knit, knit 1 and pass the slipped stitch over the knitted stitch = 2 stitches decreased. ------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ------------------------------------------------------- SWEATER – SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE: The neck and yoke are worked in the round with circular needle, from mid back and top down. The yoke is divided for body and sleeves and the body is continued in the round with circular needle. The sleeves are worked in the round with double pointed needles/short circular needle, top down. NECK: Cast on 96-100-104-108-116-120 stitches with circular needle size 3.5 mm = US 4 and light brown. Knit 1 round. The next round is worked as follows from mid back: * knit 2, purl 2 *, work from *-*. Continue this rib for 7 cm = 2¾" (= includes folding edge). When the rib is finished, knit 1 round where you increase 16-19-22-32-31-41 stitches evenly spaced – read INCREASE TIP = 112-119-126-140-147-161 stitches. Insert 1 marker. THE PIECE IS NOW MEASURED FROM HERE! Change to circular needle size 4 mm = US 6 and work the yoke as described below. YOKE: Work A.1 over all stitches (= 16-17-18-20-21-23 repeats of 7 stitches). Work and increase as shown in A.1. REMEMBER THE KNITTING TENSION! When A.1 has been completed in height there are 320-340-360-400-420-460 stitches on the needle. Continue with light brown until the piece measures 19-21-22-24-26-28 cm = 7½"-8¼"-8¾"-9½"-10¼"-11" from marker; on the last round increase 0-16-12-0-4-0 stitches evenly spaced = 320-356-372-400-424-460 stitches. Next round: Work the first 45-50-53-58-63-70 stitches in stockinette stitch as before (= half back piece), place the next 70-78-80-84-86-90 stitches on 1 thread for the sleeve, cast on 6-6-8-8-10-10 new stitches on the needle (= in side under the sleeve), work 90-100-106-116-126-140 stitches as before (= front piece), place the next 70-78-80-84-86-90 stitches on 1 thread for the sleeve, cast on 6-6-8-8-10-10 new stitches on the needle (= in side under the sleeve) and work the remaining 45-50-53-58-63-70 stitches as before (= half back piece). Body and sleeves are finished separately. THE PIECE IS NOW MEASURED FROM HERE! BODY: = 192-212-228-248-272-300 stitches. Work stockinette stitch with light brown over all stitches. When the piece measures 40-40-41-41-41-41 cm = 15¾"-15¾"-16⅛"-16⅛"-16⅛"-16⅛" from the division in all sizes (or to desired length; there is approx. 4 cm = 1½" left to finished length), knit 1 round where you increase 44-48-52-56-60-68 stitches evenly spaced = 236-260-280-304-332-368 stitches. Change to circular needle size 3.5 mm = US 4 and work as follows: * purl 2, knit 2 *, work from *-* over all stitches. Continue this rib for 4 cm = 1½". Loosely bind off with knit over knit and purl over purl. The sweater measures approx. 66-68-70-72-74-76 cm = 26"-26¾"-27½"-28⅜"-29⅛"-30" from the shoulder down. SLEEVE: Place the 70-78-80-84-86-90 stitches from the thread on the one side of the piece on short circular needle/double pointed needles size 4 mm = US 6. Work stockinette stitch, using light brown and in addition, knit up 1 stitch in each of the 6-6-8-8-10-10 stitches cast on under the sleeve = 76-84-88-92-96-100 stitches. Insert a marker thread in the middle of the 6-6-8-8-10-10 stitches under the sleeve. Allow the thread to follow your work onwards; it will be used when decreasing under the sleeve. Start the round at the marker thread. When the piece measures 4-5-5-6-6-6 cm = 1½"-2"-2"-2⅜"-2⅜"-2⅜" from the division, decrease 2 stitches mid under the sleeve – read DECREASE TIP. Decrease like this every 3½-2½-2-2-2-1½ cm = 1¼"-⅞"-¾"-¾"-¾"-½" a total of 12-15-16-17-18-19 times = 52-54-56-58-60-62 stitches. Continue working until the sleeve measures 47-46-45-44-43-42 cm = 18½"-18"-17¾"-17¼"-17"-16½" from the division (shorter measurements in larger sizes due to wider neck and longer yoke). Knit 1 round where you increase 8-10-8-10-8-10 stitches evenly spaced = 60-64-64-68-68-72 stitches. Change to double pointed needles size 3.5 mm = US 4 and work rib (= knit 2, purl 2) for 3 cm = 1⅛". Loosely bind off with knit over knit and purl over purl. The sleeve measures approx. 50-49-48-47-46-45 cm = 19¾"-19¼"-19"-18½"-18"-17¾" from the division. Work the other sleeve in the same way. ASSEMBLY: Fold the neck double to the wrong side and sew down with small, neat stitches in brown – make sure the seam is not tight and does not show on the right side. |
