If I want to use 2 strands of Drops alpaca, 1 colour only, how much do I need to buy? Thanks.
29.06.2022 - 23:32DROPS Design answered:
Dear Teresa, since this jumper was worked with stripes, we don't have the amount of yarn needed with only one colour and we don't have the jumper anymore. You can add all colours and use our yarn converter to get the matching amount of 2 strands Alpaca required. Your DROPS store can even help you if needed - even per mail or telephone. Happy knitting!

------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATIONS FOR THE PATTERN: ------------------------------------------------------- RIDGE/GARTER STITCH (worked back and forth): Knit all rows. 1 ridge in height = Knit 2 rows. DECREASE TIP (evenly spaced): To work out how to decrease evenly, count the total number of stitches on needle (e.g.156 stitches) and divide by number of decreases to be made (e.g. 16) = 9.8. In this example, decrease by knitting each 9th and 10th stitch together (approx.). STRIPES BODY: All stripes are worked in stockinette stitch as follows: 13-13-14-14-14-15 cm = 5⅛"-5⅛"-5½"-5½"-5½"-6" with color 02, wheat 8-9-9-9-10-10 cm with color 01, off white 8-9-9-9-10-10 cm = 3⅛"-3½"-3½"-3½"-4"-4" with color 26, beige 4-4-5-5-5-5 cm = 1½"-1½"-2"-2"-2"-2" with color 22, yellow 15-15-15-17-17-18 cm = 6"-6"-6"-6¾"-6¾"-7" (or to finished length) with color 02, wheat STRIPES SLEEVE: All stripes are worked in stockinette stitch as follows: 22-22-22-22-20-19 cm = 8¾"-8¾"-8¾"-8¾"-8"-7 172" with color 02, wheat – NOTE: If you would like shorter or longer sleeves, adjust the length here in this stripe; keep the other stripe lengths as suggested. 8-8-8-8-8-8 cm = 3⅛"- 3⅛"- 3⅛"- 3⅛"- 3⅛"- 3⅛" with color 01, off white 8-8-8-8-8-8 cm = 3⅛"- 3⅛"- 3⅛"- 3⅛"- 3⅛"- 3⅛" with color 26, beige 8-8-8-8-8-8 cm = 3⅛"- 3⅛"- 3⅛"- 3⅛"- 3⅛"- 3⅛" with color 22, yellow 6-6-6-6-6-6 cm = 2⅜"- 2⅜"- 2⅜"- 2⅜"- 2⅜"- 2⅜" with color 02, wheat ------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ------------------------------------------------------- SWEATER - SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE: The body is worked in the round with circular needle, bottom up as far as the armholes. Front and back pieces are then continued separately, back and forth with circular needle. The sleeves are worked in the round with double pointed needles/short circular needle, bottom up. The piece is sewn together at the shoulders. The sleeves are sewn in and you work the neck. The whole garment is worked in stockinette stitch and stripes with ribbed edges. BODY: Cast on 156-168-186-204-222-240 stitches with circular needle size 4.5 mm = US 7 and wheat. Knit 1 round. Then work rib in the round (= knit 3 / purl 3) for 4 cm = 1½". Knit 1 round where you decrease 16-16-18-20-22-20 stitches evenly spaced – read DECREASE TIP = 140-152-168-184-200-220 stitches. Change to circular needle size 5.5 mm = US 9. Insert 1 marker thread at beginning of round (= in side of body) and allow it to follow your work upwards. Work STRIPES BODY – read description above. REMEMBER THE KNITTING GAUGE! When the piece measures 34-35-36-37-38-39 cm = 13⅜"-13¾"-14¼"-14½"-15"-15¼" bind off for armholes as follows: Start 2-4-6-8-8-9 stitches before the marker thread in the side, bind off 4-8-12-16-16-18 stitches for armhole, work 66-68-72-76-84-92 stitches as before (= front piece), bind off 4-8-12-16-16-18 stitches for armhole, work 66-68-72-76-84-92 stitches as before (= back piece). Back and front pieces are continued separately as described below. BACK PIECE: = 66-68-72-76-84-92 stitches. Continue the stripes as before with 1 edge stitch in GARTER STITCH on each side – read description above. When the piece measures 50-52-54-56-58-60 cm = 19¾"-20½"-21¼"-22"-22¾"-23⅝" bind off the middle 26-26-28-28-30-30 stitches for neck and each shoulder is finished separately. Bind off 1 stitch on the next row from the neck = 19-20-21-23-26-30 stitches left on shoulder. Continue working until the piece measures 52-54-56-58-60-62 cm = 20½"-21¼"-22"-22¾"-23⅝"-24⅜", then loosely bind off. Work the other shoulder in the same way. FRONT PIECE: = 66-68-72-76-84-92 stitches. Continue the stripes as before with 1 edge stitch in garter stitch on each side. When the piece measures 42-44-46-48-50-52 cm = 16½"-17¼"-18"-19"-19¾"-20½" place the middle 14-14-16-16-18-18 stitches on 1 thread for neck and each shoulder is finished separately. Continue back and forth with stripes as before and bind off for neck at the beginning of each row from the neck as follows: Bind off 2 stitches 2 times and 1 stitch 3 times = 19-20-21-23-26-30 stitches. Continue working until the piece measures 52-54-56-58-60-62 cm = 20½"-21¼"-22"-22¾"-23⅝"-24⅜" and loosely bind off. Work the other shoulder in the same way. SLEEVE: Cast on 66-72-72-78-78-84 stitches with short circular needle size 4.5 mm = US 7 and wheat. Knit 1 round. Then work rib in the round (= knit 3 / purl 3) for 4 cm = 1½". Knit 1 round where you decrease 8-12-8-10-8-10 stitches evenly spaced = 58-60-64-68-70-74 stitches. Change to double pointed needles / short circular needle size 5.5 mm and work STRIPES SLEEVE in the round – read description above. When the piece measures 51-49-48-47-45-43 cm = 20"-19¼"-19"-18½"-17¾"-17" (shorter measurements in larger sizes due to wider shoulders and longer sleeve caps) work the rest of the sleeve back and forth from mid under sleeve (i.e. from beginning of round). This is done so that you can sew the sleeve to the armhole on body. Continue stripes and work back and forth until the whole sleeve measures 52-52-52-52-50-49 cm = 20 1/2-20 1/2-20 1/2-20 1/2-20 1/2-19¾"-19¼". Loosely bind off. Work the other sleeve in the same way. ASSEMBLY: Sew shoulder seams inside the bind-off edge. Sew in sleeves inside the 1 edge stitch and to bottom of armholes. NECK: Start on one shoulder and knit up from the right side approx. 84 to 96 stitches around the neck (including stitches on thread in front) with short circular needle size 4.5 mm = US 7 and wheat – number of stitches should be divisible by 6. Work rib in the round (= knit 3 / purl 3) for approx. 3 cm = 1⅛". Loosely bind off with knit over knit and purl over purl. |
