Thank you for this lovely pattern! I found that for me, the most troublesome pattern was A1! It looks the easiest as it's only over 4 rows but I think I was concentrating so much on A2, A3 and A4 that the most mistakes I had to fix were on A1! I also found it helpful to put a row counter on A3. I also found it helpful to read the lessons and the comments other knitters have left. Although I must admit some comments had me confused??

Hi. I’m working these charts for the first time. It’s Snowbeads 173-12. When working on the first row of the diagrams simultaneously, I am hung up on A2 on the first row. I just don’t know what to do when it shows no stitches but the stem in the middle. What do I do on that first row going right to left?
26.11.2024 - 03:50DROPS Design answered:
Hi Dawn, A.2 is worked across the first 7 stitches (as shown on the right hand side of the diagram), then you go straight to the 1 stitch in the middle (which is purled from the right side, knitted from the wrong side), then work the next 7 stitches as shown on the left hand side of the diagram. So the whole of A.2 begins with 15 stitches, will increase to 23 stitches in the middle, then decrease to 15 stitches again. Hope this helps and happy knitting!

Could I just use the alpaca fiber for this pattern. What purpose does the other type of wool contribute
30.09.2024 - 14:07DROPS Design answered:
Dear Mrs Williams, each yarn brings each own characteristic here; if you like only Alpaca you can replace 1 strand Brushed Alpaca Silk with 2 strands Alpaca and work with a total of 3 strands Alpaca - remember to check your tension (use the yarn converter for new amount of yarn if needed). Happy knitting!

Bonjour.

Bon tricot!

Hi there; thanks first. My question is: If I want to make this poncho with 2 strands of FLORA in S/M, how many balls of yarn shall I need? 10?. Thanks again.
04.10.2023 - 11:14DROPS Design answered:
Dear Elena, you should then rather use 3 strands Flora to get the correct thickness, this means replace 1 strand Alpaca with 1 strand Flora and 1 strand Brushed Alpaca Silk with 2 strands Flora - use our yarn converter to get new amount of yarn - make sure to get the correct tension and adjust needle size if needed. Happy knitting!

Hello I wonder if you can give me alternative yarns to make this poncho that don’t contain wool as this makes me itch? I see that the Drops Air is described as ‘itch free’ - would this work with Safari and if so, what would the quantities be for size L. Thanks
14.12.2021 - 19:56DROPS Design answered:
Dear Janet, is it wool that makes you itch, or alpaca as well? Drops Air is made of mostly Alpaca, very light and airy. You can try to substitute with a cotton yarn, but th eresulting poncho would be much heavier and mush more riging (as opposed of soft and airy). Happy stitching!

Bon tricot!

Knitted DROPS poncho with different patterns in “Alpaca” and “Brushed Alpaca Silk”. Size: S - XXXL.
DROPS 173-12 |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
GARTER ST (back and forth): K all rows. 1 ridge = K2 rows. PATTERN: See diagrams A.1 to A.4. Diagrams show 1 repetition of pattern seen from RS, no of sts in A.2 will vary from 15 to 23 sts. ---------------------------------------------------------- PONCHO: Worked back and forth on a circular needle to make room for all the sts. Cast on 82-96-110 sts on circular needle size 4.5 mm / US 7 with 1 strand Alpaca + 1 strand Brushed Alpaca Silk. Work 3 ridges in GARTER ST - see explanation above, AT THE SAME TIME on last row (= WS) inc 17 sts evenly = 99-113-127 sts. On next row (= RS) work PATTERN as follows: 2 sts in garter st, A.1 over 12-16-20 sts, A.2 (= 15 sts), A.1 over 12-16-20 sts, A.3 (= 23 sts), A.1 over 12-16-20 sts, A.4 (= 17 sts) and 6-8-10 sts in garter st. REMEMBER THE KNITTING GAUGE Continue pattern like this until A.3 has been worked 16-17-18 times vertically. Piece measures approx. 127-135-150 cm / 50"-53"-59" (the no of sts will not be the same as when started working the diagrams since the no of sts in A.2 is different depending on where you are in the diagram). Work 3 ridges and AT THE SAME TIME adjust the no of sts on first row to 82-96-110 sts. Bind off and fasten the threads. ASSEMBLY: Place one long side against one short side and sew tog (opposite long side now forms a tip mid front). |
