---------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATION FOR THE PATTERN: ---------------------------------------------------------- GARTER STITCH: Knit on all rows, i.e. knit from right side and knit from wrong side. 1 ridge vertically = knit 2 rows. BAND WITH I-CORD: BEGINNING OF ROW: Work band as follows (= 7 stitches): Slip 1 stitch purlwise with strand in front of piece, knit 1 and work 5 stitches in GARTER STITCH - read explanation above. END OF ROW: Work band as follows (= 7 stitches): Work until 7 stitches remain on row, work 5 stitches in garter stitch, slip 1 stitch purlwise with strand in front of piece, knit 1. Continue like this from both right side and wrong side. BUTTONHOLES: Decrease for buttonholes on right band (when garment is worn). Decrease from right side when 5 stitches remain on row as follows: ROW 1 (= right side): Make 1 yarn over, knit 2 together, knit 1, slip 1 stitch purlwise with strand in front of piece, knit 1. ROW 2 (= wrong side): Work band as before and knit yarn over to make a buttonhole. Decrease for first buttonhole on first row from right side after neck edge has been worked. Then decrease the next 6 buttonholes, approx. 7-7½-7½-8-8-8½-8½ cm = 2¾"-2⅞"-2⅞"-3⅛"-3⅛"-3¼"-3¼" apart. INCREASE TIP: Increase 1 stitch by making 1 yarn over. On next row purl yarn overs twisted to avoid holes. Then work the new stitches in stockinette stitch. ELEVATION: To make the jacket higher in the back of neck when working round yoke, you can work an elevation at the beginning of yoke as explained below. Skip this paragraph if you do not want an elevation. Insert 1 marker thread in the middle of row (= mid back), read KNITTING TIP and work the next 6 rows back and forth as follows: ROW 1 (= right side): Work as before until 12-13-14-15-16-17-18 stitches have been worked past the marker thread mid back, turn piece. ROW 2 (= wrong side): Purl 24-26-28-30-32-34-36 stitches, turn piece. ROW 3 (= right side): Knit 36-39-42-45-48-51-54 stitches, turn piece. ROW 4 (= wrong side): Purl 48-52-56-60-64-68-72 stitches, turn piece. ROW 5 (= right side): Knit 60-65-70-75-80-85-90 stitches, turn piece. ROW 6 (= wrong side): Purl 72-78-84-90-96-102-108 stitches, turn piece. Knit the entire row (work band as before), turn and purl 1 row (work band as before). Then work yoke as explained in pattern. KNITTING TIP: When working short rows there will be a small hole when turning the piece - the hole can be closed by tightening the yarn or using the technique German Short Rows as follows: Slip first stitch purlwise. Place strand over right needle and tighten well at the back (should lead to two loops on needle). Work these loops together on next row. PATTERN: See diagram A.1 to A.5 (diagram A.5 only applies to size XL, XXL and XXXL). Diagrams show all rows in pattern seen from the right side. SLEEVE TIP: When picking up stitches mid under sleeve, there will be a small hole in the transition between stitches on body and sleeves. The holes can be closed by picking up the strand between two stitches - work this strand twisted together with the first stitch between body and sleeve to close the hole. DECREASE TIP: Decrease 1 stitch on each side of marker thread as follows: Work until 3 stitches remain before marker thread, knit 2 together, knit 2 (marker thread is between these 2 stitches), slip 1 stitch knitwise, knit 1, pass slipped stitch over stitch worked (= 2 stitches decreased). ---------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ---------------------------------------------------------- JACKET - SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE: In this pattern needles of different length have been used, begin with fitting length for number of stitches and switch as needed. Work neck edge and yoke back and forth on circular needle from mid front, work top down. Work an elevation at the back of neck if you want. When yoke is done, divide piece for body and sleeves. Work body downwards back and forth on circular needle while putting the sleeves aside. Then work sleeves downwards in the round on needle. If 0 is given for the chosen size, it means that you skip the information until next information. NECK EDGE: Cast on 103-107-111-115-117-121-125 stitches on circular needle size 5 MM = US 8 with DROPS Paris. Switch to circular needle size 3.5 MM = US 4 (cast on on a larger needle to avoid a tight cast-on edge) and work as follows: ROW 1 (= wrong side): 7 stitches BAND WITH I-CORD - read explanation above, purl until 7 stitches remain, work 7 stitches band with I-cord. ROW 2 (= right side): 7 stitches band as before, knit until 7 stitches remain, work 7 stitches band as before. ROW 3 (= wrong side): 7 stitches band, purl until 7 stitches remain, work 7 stitches band. ROW 4 (= right side): 7 stitches band, knit until 7 stitches remain, work 7 stitches band. ROW 5 (= wrong side): 7 stitches band, work rib (= purl 1/knit 1) until 8 stitches remain, purl 1 and 7 stitches band. ROW 6 (= right side): 7 stitches band, work rib (= knit 1/purl 1) until 8 stitches remain, knit 1 and 7 stitches band. ROW 7 (= wrong side): 7 stitches band, work rib (= purl 1/knit 1) until 8 stitches remain, purl 1 and 7 stitches band. Insert 1 marker on the inside of band in one side of piece, measure piece from this marker. YOKE: Switch to circular needle size 5 MM = US 8 and work first row from mid front as follows: Work band as before, work 89-93-97-101-103-107-111 stitches in stockinette stitch while AT THE SAME TIME increasing 12-18-19-25-28-29-30 stitches evenly over these stitches – read INCREASE TIP, work band as before- remember BUTTONHOLES – read explanation above = 115-125-130-140-145-150-155 stitches on needle. On next row from right side you can work an ELEVATION at the back of neck - read explanation above, then work as explained below. If you do not want an elevation, continue as explained below. Work stockinette stitch and bands as before. Remember to follow the knitting gauge! When yoke measures 2½-2½-3½-3½-2½-3½-4½ cm = 1"-1"-1¼"-1¼"-1"-1¼"-1⅝" from marker, increase stitches on yoke by working PATTERN – read explanation above and work as next row follows: A.1: Work band as before, knit 1, work A.1 20-22-23-25-26-27-28 times in total along the yoke, work band as before. Continue like this until A.1 has been worked = 155-169-176-190-197-204-211 stitches. Work in stockinette stitch and band until piece measures 6½-6½-7½-7½-6½-7½-8½ cm = 2½"-2½"-2⅞"-2⅞"-2½"-2⅞"-3¼" from marker. Work next row as follows from right side: A.2: Work band as before, knit 1, work A.2 20-22-23-25-26-27-28 times in total along the yoke, work band as before. Continue like this until A.2 has been worked = 195-213-222-240-249-258-267 stitches. Work in stockinette stitch and bands until piece measures 10½-10½-11½-11½-10½-11½-12½ cm = 4⅛"-4⅛"-4⅝"-4⅝"-4⅛"-4⅝"-5" from marker. Work next row as follows from right side: A.3: Work band as before, knit 1, work A.3 20-22-23-25-26-27-28 times in total along the yoke, work band as before = 215-235-245-265-275-285-295 stitches. Continue like this until A.3 has been worked. Work in stockinette stitch and bands until piece measures 14½-14½-15½-15½-14½-15½-16½ cm = 5¾"-5¾"-6⅛"-6⅛"-5¾"-6⅛"-6½" from marker. Work next row as follows from right side: A.4: Work band as before, knit 1, work A.4 20-22-23-25-26-27-28 times in total along the yoke, work band as before = 235-257-268-290-301-312-323 stitches. Continue like this until A.4 has been worked. Pattern with increases is now finished in size XS, S, M and L - continue from ALL SIZES. In size XL, XXL and XXXL work in stockinette stitch and bands until piece measures 0-0-0-0-18½-19½-20½ cm = 0"-0"-0"-0"-7⅛"-7⅝"-8⅛" from marker, then increase one last time with A.5 as explained below (= from right side). A.5: Work band as before, knit 1, work A.5 0-0-0-0-26-27-28 times in total along the yoke, work band as before = 235-257-268-290-327-339-351 stitches. Continue like this until A.5 has been worked - continue from ALL SIZES. ALL SIZES: When the diagrams have been worked, work in stockinette stitch and bands onwards - AT THE SAME TIME after 1 cm = ⅜" increase 7-9-10-16-3-7-15 stitches evenly on next row from right side (do not increase over bands) = 242-266-278-306-330-346-366 stitches. Work until piece measures 19-20-22-22-23-25-27 cm = 7½"-8"-8¾"-8¾"-9"-9¾"-10⅝" from marker. Now divide piece for body and sleeves. DIVIDING FOR BODY AND SLEEVES: AT THE SAME TIMEx as next row is worked divide yoke for body and sleeves as follows: Work 41-45-47-51-54-58-62 stitches band and stockinette stitch as before (= front piece), slip the next 46-50-52-58-64-64-66 stitches on a thread for sleeve, cast on 6-6-8-8-10-12-14 new stitches on row (= in the side mid under sleeve), work 68-76-80-88-94-102-110 stitches in stockinette stitch (= back piece), slip the next 46-50-52-58-64-64-66 stitches on a thread for sleeve, cast on 6-6-8-8-10-12-14 new stitches on row (= in the side mid under sleeve), and work the last 41-45-47-51-54-58-62 stitches in stockinette stitch and band as before (= front piece). Finish body and sleeves separately. BODY: = 162-178-190-206-222-242-262 stitches. Work in stockinette stitch in the round on needle - AT THE SAME TIME when sleeve measures 2 cm = ¾" from division, decrease mid under sleeve – read DECREASE TIP and decrease as follows: Decrease 2 stitches every 2 cm = ¾" 2-2-2-2-2-1-0 times in total = 48-52-56-62-70-74-80 stitches. Work until sleeve measures 12-12-10-12-10-9-7 cm = 4¾"-4¾"-4"-4¾"-4"-3½"-2¾" from division. Switch to double pointed needles size 3.5 MM = US 4 and work rib (= knit 1/purl 1) while AT THE SAME TIME increasing 8-8-10-10-12-14-14 stitches evenly on 1st round = 56-60-66-72-82-88-94 stitches. When rib measures 3-3-3-3-4-4-4 cm = 1⅛"-1⅛"-1⅛"-1⅛"-1½"-1½"-1½", bind off with knit over knit and purl over purl or bind off with Italian bind-off.
