------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATIONS FOR THE PATTERN: ------------------------------------------------------- PATTERN: See diagrams A.1 to A.4. The diagrams show the pattern from the right side. The diagrams are read from right to left when working from the right side and left to right when working from the wrong side. INCREASE TIP: INCREASE ONE STITCH TOWARDS THE LEFT from right side: Use the left needle to pick up the strand between 2 stitches from the previous row, pick up the strand from the front and knit through the back loop. INCREASE ONE STITCH TOWARDS THE RIGHT from right side: Use the left needle to pick up the strand between 2 stitches from the previous row, pick up the strand from the back and knit through the front loop. I-CORD: FIRST 2 STITCHES: Work like this on all rows: Slip 1 stitch purl-wise with the strand in front, knit 1. LAST 2 STITCHES: Work like this on all rows: Work until there are 2 stitches left on the row, slip 1 stitch purl-wise with the strand in front, knit 1. Work in the same way from both the right and wrong side. ------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ------------------------------------------------------- HAT – SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE: The piece is worked in the round with circular needle, bottom up. Change to double pointed needles when necessary when decreasing. HAT: Cast on 96-112 stitches with circular needle size 3.5 MM = US 4, 1 strand DROPS Puna and 1 strand DROPS Kid-Silk (2 strands) or 1 strand DROPS Merino Extra Fine and 1 strand DROPS Kid-Silk (2 strands). Work rib in the round (knit 2, purl 2) for 10-11 cm = 4"-4⅜". Change to circular needle size 4 MM = US 6. Turn the piece inside out and work in the opposite direction, working PATTERN A.1 in the round (= 6-7 repeats). Work until the piece measures 23 cm = 9", with the last round the last row in A.1. Remember to maintain the knitting gauge. Work A.2 in the round (= 6-7 repeats) = 18-21 stitches. Knit all stitches together 2 and 2 until there is 0-1 stitch left on the round, knit 0-1 = 9-11 stitches. Cut the strand, pull it through the remaining stitches, tighten and fasten well. Fold up the bottom 7-8 cm = 2¾"-3⅛". The hat measures approx. 24-25 cm = 9½"-9¾" with the fold-up. ------------------------------------------------------- NECK-WARMER - SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE: The pattern uses both long and short needles; start with the length which fits the number of stitches and change when necessary. The neck and yoke are worked in the round with circular needle, top down and from the right back shoulder. When the yoke is finished, it is divided for the front and back pieces, which are finished separately, back and forth. NECK: Cast on 104-112 stitches with circular needle size 4 MM = US 6, 1 strand DROPS Puna and 1 strand DROPS Kid-Silk (2 strands) or 1 strand DROPS Merino Extra Fine and 1 strand DROPS Kid-Silk (2 strands). Work rib in the round (knit 2, purl 2) for 9 cm = 3½". Insert 1 marker after the first 35-39 stitches (= mid-front), the piece is now measured from here. YOKE: Change to circular needle size 4.5 MM = US 7. Read INCREASE TIP and work as follows: Rib as before across the first 18-22 stitches (= shoulder-stitches), increase 1 stitch towards the left, work A.3a, A.4a, increase 1 stitch towards the right (= front piece), work rib as before across the next 18-22 stitches (= shoulder-stitches), increase 1 stitch towards the left, work A. 3a, A.4a, increase 1 stitch towards the right (= back piece). You have increased 4 stitches on the round. The stitch count on the shoulders remains the same but increases on the front and back pieces on every row. Finish A.3a and A.4a (18 increases in height) = 176-184 stitches. On the next row bind off the shoulder-stitches as follows: * Bind off the first 17-21 stitches with rib, knit 2 together (1 stitch decreased), knit 1, work A.3b, A.4b, knit 2 *, work from *-* one more time = 140-140 stitches. The shoulder-stitches have been bind off and there are 70 stitches on both the front and the back pieces. Place the front piece stitches on a thread/stitch holder and continue the back piece. BACK PIECE: First row from the right side (i.e., 2nd row in A.3b and A.4b). Work 2 stitches I-CORD – read explanation above, continue A.3b and A.4b until there are 2 stitches left on the row, work 2 stitches I-cord. Continue working until the piece measures 17-19 cm = 6¾"-7½" from the division – repeat A.3b and A.4b in height and the last row is from the right side. Change to circular needle size 4 MM = US 6 and work as follows from the wrong side: 2 stitches I-cord, work rib (knit 2, purl 2) until there are 4 stitches left, knit 2 and 2 stitches I-cord. When the rib measures 3 cm = 1⅛", bind off with knit above knit and purl above purl, while knitting together the 2 first and 2 last stitches. FRONT PIECE: Work in the same way as the back piece, until the front piece measures 15-17 cm = 6"-6¾". Finish with 3 cm = 1⅛" rib in the same way as the back piece (the front piece is 2 cm =¾" shorter than the back piece). |
