What does it mean to “knit all stitches together 2 and 2”, I’m struggling to find an answer online.
06.12.2024 - 18:23DROPS Design answered:
Dear Kathryn, it means that you knit 2 together over all of the stitches. So you decrease 1 stitch for every 2 stitches. For example if you had 12 stitches you knit 2 together 6 times on the round. Since you decrease 1 stitch for every 2 stitches you should have 6 stitches left after this. Happy knitting!

I'm knitting size 38 and came to working the toe.Can you explain where should I put markers-insert 1 marker on each side with 26 stitches both on top of and underneath the foot?
14.11.2021 - 15:14DROPS Design answered:
Dear Deni, you have just decreased for the top of the foot, so you have inserted stitch markers to mark the sides of the sock and should still be in the work. Now you need to check that after the decreases, there are 26 stitches between the stitch markers, both in the top of the foot and underneath the foot. Happy knitting!

------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATIONS FOR THE PATTERN: ------------------------------------------------------- HEEL DECREASES: ROW 1 (= right side): Knit until there are 6-7-7 stitches left, slip 1 stitch, knit 1 and pass the slipped stitch over the knitted stitch, turn. ROW 2 (= wrong side): Purl until there are 6-7-7 stitches left, slip 1 stitch, purl 1 and pass the slipped stitch over the purled stitch, turn the piece. ROW 3 (= right side): Knit until there are 5-6-6 stitches left, slip 1 stitch, knit 1 and pass the slipped stitch over the knitted stitch, turn the piece. ROW 4 (= wrong side): Purl until there are 5-6-6 stitches left, slip 1 stitch, purl 1 and pass the slipped stitch over the purled stitch, turn the piece. Continue to decrease like this, working until there is 1 stitch less each time before slipping a stitch and until there are 14-14-16 stitches left on the needle. ------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ------------------------------------------------------- SOCKS – SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE: The piece is worked in the round with double pointed needles. SOCK: Cast on 75-80-85 stitches with double pointed needles size 2.5 MM = US 1.5 and DROPS Fabel. Knit 1 round, then work rib in the round (knit 2, purl 3) for 6 cm = 2⅜". Now decrease 1 stitch in each purled section = 60-64-68 stitches. Continue the new rib (knit 2, purl 2) until the piece measures 18-19-20 cm = 7"-7½"-8". REMEMBER THE KNITTING GAUGE! Continue with rib in front and stockinette stitch at the back of the sock; to allow the pattern to fit on the top of the foot, start the round with knit 2-1-2 (in size 41/43 displace the beginning of the round by 1 stitch so that it now starts between 2 knitted stitches). Work rib as before over the first 30-32-34 stitches, knit and decrease 6 stitches evenly over the remaining 30-32-34 stitches = 54-58-62 stitches. Continue this pattern until the piece measures 20-21-22 cm = 8"-8¼"-8¾". Work the first 30-32-34 stitches, then place them on a thread (= mid-top of foot); 24-26-28 stitches on the needle for the heel. Work stockinette stitch back and forth over these stitches for 6-7-7 cm = 2⅜"-2¾"-2¾". Insert 1 marker in the middle of the row – the piece is now measured from here. Now work HEEL DECREASES – see description above. After the heel decreases, knit up 13-14-16 stitches on each side of the heel and place the 30-32-34 stitches from the thread back on the needles (continue these stitches in rib) = 70-74-82 stitches. Insert 1 marker on each side the 30-32-34 stitches on top of the foot. Continue with rib on top of the foot and the remaining stitches in stockinette stitch, AT THE SAME TIME decrease on each side as follows: Knit twisted together the last 2 stitches before the 30-32-34 stitches and knit together the first 2 stitches after these 30-32-34 stitches. Decrease like this every 2nd round a total of 9-9-11 times = 52-56-60 stitches. Work until the piece measures 20-22-24 cm = 8"-8¾"-9½" from the heel marker; there is approx. 4-5-6 cm = 1½"-2"-2⅜" left to finished length, try the sock on and work to desired length before working the toe. Insert 1 marker on each side with 26-28-30 stitches both on top of and underneath the foot. Knit all stitches, AT THE SAME TIME decrease for the toe as follows: Before the markers: Knit 2 together. After the markers: Knit 2 twisted together. Decrease on both sides like this every 2nd round a total of 4-7-9 times, then every round 6-3-2 times = 12-16-16 stitches. On the next round knit all stitches together 2 and 2. Cut the strand and pull it through the remaining stitches, tighten and fasten well. The sock measures approx. 24-27-30 cm = 9½"-10⅝"-11¾" from the heel marker. Work the other sock in the same way. |
