How to work knit 2, purl 2 (back and forth) – Continental knitting style
In this DROPS video we show you how to work knit 2, purl 2, back and forth using the Continental knitting style. This textured pattern is called rib/ribbing and is one of many varieties.
BEFORE THE VIDEO STARTS:
The ribbed pattern is divisible by 4. So that the pattern is symmetrical on both sides, we have cast on a stitch count which is divisible by 4 + 2 and, in addition, we have worked 1 edge stitch on each side (the edge stitches are worked in garter stitch = knitted on all rows). We have already worked a few centimeters of the ribbed pattern.
THE VIDEO SHOWS:
ROW 1: Knit 2, purl 2, repeated along the row with 1 edge stitch on each side.
ROW 2: The stitches are worked in the same way as those below = knit above knit and purl above purl, with 1 edge stitch on each side.
Repeat ROW 2 onward.
