Bon tricot!

Hello, i have completed this pattern and the mitts are lovely. I only have one concern, when i put them on my fingers get caught in the yarn 'floats' inside the mitt.....these floats occur when there are 5 stitches before a color change.... how can i eliminate these floats? Will they disappear when the mitts are washed? Thank you.... love Drops wool and all your patterns!

Seguo spesso i vostri modelli. Sono sempre chiari e precisi. Secondo me in questo modello manca la spiegazione di una riga (dopo la 23) del diagramma A.1. Ciao e grazie!!!

Knitted hat and mittens with Nordic pattern in DROPS Merino Extra Fine.

------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATION FOR THE PATTERN: ------------------------------------------------------- PATTERN: See diagrams A.1 and A.2. Work the entire pattern in stockinette stitch. KNITTING TIP-1: To avoid the garment losing elasticity when working pattern, it is important not to tighten the strands on back side of piece. Switch to a higher needle number when working pattern if the pattern is somewhat tight. KNITTING TIP-2 (applies to mittens): If you want a mitten with a larger circumference the mittens can be worked on half a size or one size larger needle. Half a needle size larger will be 1 cm = ⅜" more in circumference and a one needle size larger will be 2 cm = ¾" more in circumference. KNITTING TIP-3: Length before thumb gusset begins can be adjusted by working more or less rounds before working marking for thumb gusset. DECREASE TIP-1 (applies to top of hat, top of left mitten and top of left thumb): Work until 2 stitches remain before marker, knit these 2 stitches together (= 1 stitch decreased). DECREASE TIP-2 (applies to top of right mitten and thumb on right mitten): Work until marker, knit the first 2 stitches after marker twisted together (= 1 stitch decreased). ------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ------------------------------------------------------- HAT - SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE: Worked in the round on a short circular needle, bottom up. Switch to double pointed needles when needed. HAT: Cast on 108-112 stitches on a short circular needle size 3 mm = US 2,5 with dark grey. Knit 1 round. Then work rib in the round (= knit 2/purl 2) for 4 cm = 1½". Switch to a short circular needle size 3.5 mm = US 4. Knit 1 round while increasing 0-2 stitches evenly = 108-114 stitches. Read KNITTING TIP-1 and work A.1 in the round (= 18-19 repetitions of 6 stitches). REMEMBER THE KNITTING GAUGE! When A.1 has been worked, work A.2 in the round the same way. Repeat A.2 as far as you can vertically until finished measurements, but when decreases begin at the top of hat, there are fewer stitches with dark grey between each dot and when there is no more room for dots, finish A.2, and work in stockinette stitch with dark grey over all stitches until finished measurements. AT THE SAME TIME decrease as explained below. Work until piece measures approx. 20 cm = 8" from cast-on edge in both sizes. Insert 6 markers in piece 18-19 stitches apart. On next round decrease 1 stitch before every marker– read DECREASE TIP = 6 stitches decreased. Decrease like this every other round 4-6 times in total, and then every round 5-4 times in total = 54-54 stitches remain. Work 3 rounds in stockinette stitch with dark grey and knit at the same time all stitches together 2 by 2 on all three rounds = 7 stitches remain for all sizes. Cut the yarn and pull it through the remaining stitches, tighten together and fasten. Piece measures approx. 25-26 cm = 9¾"-10¼" from top and down. ASSEMBLY: Make a pompom with dark grey and off white with an approx. diameter of 6 cm = 2⅜" and fasten it at the top of the hat. ------------------------------------------------------- MITTENS - SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE: Work piece in the round on double pointed needles, bottom up. Mittens have the same circumference in both sizes but different length. Circumference can be adjusted - read KNITTING TIP-2! LEFT MITTEN: Cast on 48-48 stitches on double pointed needles size 3 mm = US 2,5 with dark grey. Work 8 rounds in stockinette stitch for folding edge. Read the rest of mitten before continuing! Work next round as follows: * Knit 2 together, make 1 yarn over*, work from *-* the entire round (= folding edge). Measure piece from folding edge! Work 4 rounds in stockinette stitch with dark grey. REMEMBER THE KNITTING GAUGE! Read KNITTING TIP-1 and work A.1 in the round (= 8 repetitions of 6 stitches). When A.1 has been worked, repeat A.2 vertically as far as you can before decrease begins at the top of mitten. Then work in stockinette stitch with dark grey over all stitches until finished measurements. AT THE SAME TIME when piece measures approx. 11 cm = 4⅜" from folding edge - read KNITTING TIP-3, work a making for thumb gusset as explained below. Work 14 stitches in stockinette stitch with dark grey, work 8 stitches in stockinette stitch for thumb gusset in a different color that stands out from the rest of piece, then work the remaining 26 stitches in stockinette stitch with dark grey. Continue pattern as before over all stitches, until mitten measures approx. 21-23 cm = 8¼"-9" from folding edge. Approx. 3 cm = 1⅛" remain until finished measurements, try the mitten on and work until desired length. Insert 6 markers in piece 8 stitches apart. Work in stockinette stitch in the round with dark grey. AT THE SAME TIME on first round decrease 1 stitch before every marker - read DECREASE TIP-1 (= 6 stitches decreased). Decrease like this every other round 5 times in total in both sizes = 18 stitches remain. Then work 2 rounds in stockinette stitch where all stitches are knitted together 2 by 2 on both rounds = 5 stitches remain. Cut the yarn and pull it through the remaining stitches, tighten together and fasten. Mitten measures approx. 24-26 cm = 9½"-10¼" from top and down to folding edge. THUMB: Pull out the thread that was worked over the 8 stitches for thumb gusset, and slip stitches on double pointed needles size 3 mm = US 2,5. Pick in addition up 12 stitches around thumb gusset = 20 stitches on needles. Work in stockinette stitch in the round with dark grey. AT THE SAME TIME at the beginning of 2nd round decrease 1 stitch by knitting 2 together. Work 2 rounds without decrease. Repeat decrease on the end of next round = 18 stitches remain. Work until thumb measures approx. 5-5½ cm = 2"-2⅛". Approx. 1 cm = ⅜" remain until finished measurements, try the mitten on and work thumb until desired length. Now insert 3 markers on thumb 6 stitches apart. On next round decrease 1 stitch before every marker– read DECREASE TIP-1 (= 3 stitches decreased). Decrease like this every round 3 times in total = 9 stitches remain. Knit 1 round where all stitches are knitted together 2 by 2 = 5 stitches remain. Cut the yarn and pull it through the remaining stitches, tighten together and fasten. Thumb measures approx. 6 -6½ cm = 2⅜"-2½" from top and down. RIGHT MITTEN: Cast on 48-48 stitches on double pointed needles size 3 mm = US 2,5 with dark grey. 11 cm = 4⅜" from folding edge (adjust length according to left mitten), work a marking for thumb gusset as explained below. Work 26 stitches in stockinette stitch with dark grey, work 8 stitches in stockinette stitch for thumb gusset in a different color that stands out from the rest of piece, then work the remaining 14 stitches in stockinette stitch with dark grey. Continue pattern as before over all stitches, until mitten measures approx. 21-23 cm = 8¼"-9" from folding edge (adjust length according to left mitten). Insert 6 markers in piece 8 stitches apart. Work in stockinette stitch in the round with dark grey. AT THE SAME TIME on first round decrease 1 stitch before every marker - read DECREASE TIP-2 (= 6 stitches decreased). Decrease like this every other round 5 times in total in both sizes = 18 stitches remain. Then work 2 rounds in stockinette stitch where all stitches are knitted twisted together 2 by 2 on both rounds = 5 stitches remain. Cut the yarn and pull it through the remaining stitches, tighten together and fasten. Mitten measures approx. 24-26 cm = 9½"-10¼" from top and down to folding edge. THUMB: Work thumb the same way as on left mitten but with DECREASE TIP-2. ASSEMBLY: Fold the folding edge towards wrong side, and fasten with neat stitches. |
