Pattern instructions

NOTE: This pattern is written in American English. All measurements in charts are in cm. For conversion from inches to cm - click here. There are different terms for crocheting in American and British English. If this pattern includes crochet, click for "crochet terms" here. For this pattern in British English, please click here.
GARTER ST (in the round on double pointed needles):
* K 1 round and P 1 round *, repeat from *-*. 1 ridge = 2 rounds.

GARTER ST (back and forth):
K all rows. 1 ridge = K2 rows.

See diagram A.1. The diagram shows all rows in pattern seen from RS.

Cast on 28-31-34-37-41-44 sts on double pointed needles size 5 mm / US 8 with Peak. Work in GARTER ST in the round - see explanation above - until piece measures approx. 4 cm / 1½'', finish after 1 round P. REMEMBER THE KNITTING GAUGE

Now keep the first 12-12-12-14-14-14 sts on the round on the needle, slip the remaining 16-19-22-23-27-30 sts on 1 stitch holder. Continue in garter st back and forth over the 12-12-12-14-14-14 sts - AT THE SAME TIME on 1st row cast on 1 new st in each side (edge st) = 14-14-14-16-16-16 sts. When middle piece measures 4-4-5-6-6-7 cm / 1½"-1½"-2"-2 3/8"-2 3/8"-2 3/4", dec 1 edge st in each side = 12-12-12-14-14-14 sts. Then slip the sts from stitch holder back on needle and pick up 7-7-9-10-10-12 sts on each side of middle part (inside 1 edge st) = 42-45-52-57-61-68 sts on needle. NOW MEASURE PIECE FROM HERE. Insert 1 marker mid front of toe and 1 marker mid back on heel. Continue in the round in garter st. When piece measures 2 cm / 3/4'', K 2 sts tog on each side of every marker on every other round (= 4 sts less per round) continue dec until piece measures 3-3-4-4-5-5 cm / 1 1/8''-1 1/8''-1½''-1½''-2''-2'' - bind off. Sew seams under foot in outer loops of edge sts to avoid a chunky seam.

Cast on 13 sts on needle size 5 mm / US 8 with Peak. Work 2 ridges in GARTER ST back and forth - see explanation above - on last row inc 4 sts evenly = 17 sts. Work according to A.1 (= 17 sts) until piece measures approx. 18-20-22-24-26-28 cm / 7''-8''-8¾''-9½''-10¼''-11'', on last row dec 2 sts over every cable in A.1 = 13 sts. Work 2 ridges and bind off. Place cast-on edge over bind-off edge and sew on 2 buttons for decoration through the leg. Pull leg 2 cm / 3/4'' down on foot with buttons on the outside of slipper and sew leg to cast-on edge on slipper from WS with invisible stitches.

Knit another slipper the same way, make sure that the leg are sewn on in the opposite side.

All measurements in charts are in cm.

= K from RS, P from WS
= P from RS, K from WS
= slip 2 sts on cable needle in front of piece, K 2, K 2 from cable needle
= slip 2 sts on cable needle behind piece, K 2, K 2 from cable needle

Michelle 24.11.2018 - 04:10:

Is this pattern available in youth sizes? I’m specifically wondering about US youth size 4-5 or EU size 37.

DROPS Design 25.11.2018 kl. 10:39:

Dear Michele, there are a couple of similar patterns in adult sizes that would fit EU show size 37. href="https://www.garnstudio.com/pattern.php?id=7117&cid=19" target="blank">ere is one for example and here is another one. Happy Knitting!

Heather Halom 30.11.2017 - 22:53:

I have just wondered if you can tell what the width measurement across the front should be, the length is good but it looks wide across the front thanks

DROPS Design 01.12.2017 kl. 09:32:

Dear Mrs Halon, if your gauge is correct, you should get the correct measurements for each size. Garter st is quite elastic and will adjust for wider feet if necessary. Happy knitting!

Maureen 02.12.2016 - 01:07:

I'm using super bulky yarn and size 5 mm needles as directed. But my gauge is way off - 17 stitches span 6.5 inches. My knitting is not loose, and the fabric is quite dense, so I'm reluctant to go to a smaller needle size. Am I missing something? Thanks for your help.

DROPS Design 02.12.2016 kl. 08:35:

Dear Maureen, you should have 17 sts = 10 cm (= 4") in width with Drops Peak with needle size 5 mm - or adjust the needle size to get correct tension. Slippers are knitted here with a tighter tension as usual for Drops Peak to get the desired texture. Happy knitting!

Aurolina 25.01.2016 - 23:03:

Bon tricot!

Sheila Dodson 19.01.2016 - 04:40:

When working the foot, the directions state "piece measures 2 cm / 3/4'', K 2 sts tog on each side of every marker on every other round (= 4 sts less per round) continue dec until piece measures 3-3-4-4-5-5 cm / 1 1/8''-1 1/8''-1½''-1½''-2''-2'' - bind off." This does not seem to make a long enough foot. How can we only stitch 3 cm out from the heel and then bind off? Is there more to this?

DROPS Design 19.01.2016 kl. 10:13:

Dear Mrs Dodson, the video below shows how to work the slippers in 1st size and should help you to vizualize how they will be. Happy knitting!

Renee Meyer 15.01.2016 - 23:32:

In working with the chart. what stitched are done on the wrong side

DROPS Design 16.01.2016 kl. 11:16:

Dear Mrs Meyer, diagram show all rows both from RS and from WS, ie 1 square in diag = 1 st x 1 row. From WS, ,work K over K and P over P - see diagram text and read more here. Happy knitting!

Marcella 24.10.2015 - 06:44:

DROPS Design 23.10.2015 kl. 13:26:

Hoi Marcella.
