CARDIGAN:

Gauge: 15 sts x 21 rows with 1 strand Silke-Tweed + 1 strand Vivaldi on larger needles in stockinette st = 10 x 10 cm.

Rib: Knitting back and forth on needles:
Row 1: * K 3, P 4 *, repeat from * - *.
Row 2: * P 3, K 4 *, repeat from * - *.
When knitting rib in the round, use only Row 1 instructions.

Buttonhole: Make buttonholes along right buttonband. 1 buttonhole = K tog the 2nd and 3rd sts from center front and yo. Make buttonholes when the piece measures:
Size S: 3, 10, 16, 22, 28 and 34 cm.
Size M: 3, 10, 16, 22, 28 and 35 cm.
Size L: 3, 10, 17, 23, 30 and 36 cm.
Size XL: 3, 10, 17, 24, 31 and 37 cm.
Size XXL: 3, 10, 17, 24, 31 and 38 cm.

Knitting tips (for neckband):
All decs are made from right side. Dec 1 st inside 4 edge sts knit in garter st as follows:
After 4 edge sts: Slip 1 st as if to knit, K 1, psso.
Before 4 edge sts: K 2 tog.

Body: Cast on 137-151-165-179-193 sts on smaller circular needles with 1 strand Vivaldi + 1 strand Silke-Tweed. Knit rib, keeping 4 sts at each edge in garter st and begin and end rib with K 3 after the garter st edge – first row is the right side. Make buttonholes along right buttonband – see instructions above. When the piece measures 4 cm K 1 right side row, K 1 row from wrong side and K 1 row from right side again. Change to larger circular needles and continue the rib over all sts as before, keeping buttonband sts in garter st as before. When the piece measures 30-31-32-33-34 cm change to stockinette st to finished measurements (with buttonbands in garter st). When the piece measures 35-36-37-38-39 cm knit the next row as follows: 33-36-40-43-47 sts (= right front), bind off 6 sts for armhole, 59-67-73-81-87 sts (= back), bind off 6 sts for armhole, 33-36-40-43-47 sts (= left front). Knit each piece separately.

Left front: = 33-36-40-43-47 sts.
Read the entire next section before knitting:
Armhole: Bind off for armhole at side every other row: 2 sts 1-2-3-4-5 times and 1 st 1-2-2-3-3 times.
Neckband: At the same time dec 1 st for the neck – see knitting tips: every other row 6-5-7-6-8 times and then every 4 rows 5 times. After all armhole and neck shaping is complete 19-20-20-21-21 sts remain. When the piece measures 54-56-58-60-62 cm, bind off.

Right front: Knit the same as the left front, reversing all shaping.

Back: = 59-67-73-81-87 sts. Bind off for armhole at each side as on front = 53-55-57-59-61 sts. When the piece measures 51-53-55-57-59 cm knit 4 rows garter st over 21-21-23-23-25 sts center back (knit the rest of the sts in stockinette st as before). Then bind off the center 13-13-15-15-17 sts for the neck. On the next row dec 1 st at each neck edge inside 4 edge sts in garter st – see knitting tips = 19-20-20-21-21 sts remain on each shoulder. Keep the 4 edge sts at each neck edge in garter st. Bind off when the piece measures 54-56-58-60-62 cm.

Sleeve: Cast on 35-35-42-42-42 sts on smaller double-pointed needles with 1 strand Silke-Tweed + 1 strand Vivaldi; join and place a marker at the join. Knit rib – start rib so that the marker is in the center of a K 3 rib. When the piece measures 10 cm K 1 row, P 1 row, and K 1 row.
Read the entire next section before knitting:
Change to larger double pointed needles and continue in rib as before. When the piece measures 12 cm inc 1 st each side of the K 3 with the marker every 5-3.5-4.5-3.5-3 cm a total of 8-10-8-9-11 times – knit the increased sts in stockinette st = 51-55-58-60-64 sts. When the piece measures 42-40-39-37-36 cm knit stockinette st over all sts to finished measurements.
When sleeve measures 50-48-47-45-44 cm bind off 3 sts each side of marker, then bind off for sleeve cap at each side every other row: 2 sts 3-2-2-1-1 times and 1 st 2-5-6-9-10 times, then bind off 2 sts at each side until the piece measures 57 cm, then bind off 3 sts at each side 1 time. Bind off the remaining sts, the piece measures approx. 58 cm.

Assembly: Sew shoulder seams, sew in sleeves and sew on buttons.

BOA SCARF:

Length: approx. 150 - 170 cm [59" - 66 7/8"]

Materials: Garnstudio ITALIAN VELVET,
62% acrylic, 38% polyester, 100 g./55 m./60 yards
100 gr nr 01, burgundy
and use: Garnstudio KARISMA SUPERWASH
100% superwash wool, 50 g/110 m/120 yards
50 gr nr 05, black

Template: Make a template out of cardboard as shown on page 33 of Drops No. 80. Mark the center line as shown.

Boa: Make 1 loop with Karisma and lay across top of template at center line so that the loop is in front and the ball of yarn is behind template (see fig. 2). With left thumb hold loop and strand of Italian Velvet, wind Italian Velvet around right side, then left side of template, then bring strand forward to center again (see fig. 3 – you have made a Figure 8 with Italian Velvet).
Pull up Karisma loop and finger crochet 1 ch around the Italian Velvet strands at center line, pull tight, then pull up a new loop of Karisma (see fig. 4). Take the Italian Velvet off template.Continue to make Figure 8s with Italian Velvet until the yarn runs out. The boa will measure approx.
150-170 cm.
Now sew with 1 strand Karisma through the row of finger crochet loops, to make the boa more stable. For best results, sew between the chenille and eyelash plies of the Italian Velvet.

DROPS Design 12.03.2009 - 20:26:

Hi Jennifer Yes, you have to start earlier on the larger sizes since the sleeve cap shall be longer and also the shoulder width is larger. So it's correct.

Jennifer 12.03.2009 - 18:57:

Are the measurements for the sleeve i.e. # of cm before switching to stockinette st and # of cm before starting to shape the sleeve cap) correct? It looks like the larger sizes have shorter lengths.
