Bon tricot!

Hello the stitch count for a5 should be 21 am I correct? The patterns states to start A5 when there are 25 stitches left on the needle but in order to *slip1 knit 2 pass the slipped stitch over the knit2* there must be 26 stitches left on the needle in order to do the 5 garter stitches
01.10.2023 - 09:32DROPS Design answered:
Hi :) there are only 20 sts in A.2 and in A.5 - note that the black square is not a stitch but this stitch will then be increased with the yarn over on 2nd row in A.2/A.5 and then there are 21 sts when A.2/A.5 are done. Happy knitting!

Bon tricot!

---------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATION FOR THE PATTERN: ---------------------------------------------------------- GARTER STITCH (back and forth): Knit all rows. 1 ridge vertically = knit 2 rows. PATTERN: See diagrams A.1 to A.6. Diagrams show all rows in pattern seen from the right side. INCREASE TIP (applies to sleeves): Begin 1 stitch before marker, make 1 yarn over, knit 2 (marker thread is between these 2 stitches), make 1 yarn over. On next round knit yarn overs twisted to avoid holes (= 2 stitches increased). Then work the new stitches in stocking stitch. BUTTONHOLES: Decrease for buttonholes on right band. 1 BUTTONHOLE = knit third and fourth stitch from edge together and make 1 yarn over. On next row knit yarn over to make hole. Decrease for buttonholes when piece measures: S: 7, 15, 23, 31, 39 and 47 cm. M: 6, 13, 20, 27, 34, 41 and 48 cm L: 6, 13, 20, 27, 34, 41 and 48 cm XL: 7, 14, 21, 28, 35, 43 and 51 cm XXL: 7, 14, 21, 28, 35, 43 and 51 cm XXXL: 6, 14, 22, 30, 38, 46 and 54 cm ---------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ---------------------------------------------------------- JACKET - SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE: Work front pieces and back piece separately on circular needle, bottom up. Work sleeves in the round on double pointed needles/a short circular needle, bottom up. Assemble jacket as explained in pattern. Finish with a neck edge. BACK PIECE: Cast on 112-120-124-136-144-160 stitches on circular needle size 3 mm with DROPS Merino Extra Fine or DROPS Cotton Merino. Purl 1 row from wrong side. Then work rib as follows from right side: 1 stitch in GARTER STITCH - read explanation above - * knit 2, purl 2 *, repeat from *-* until 3 stitches remain, knit 2, 1 stitch in garter stitch. Continue back and forth like this until rib measures 6 cm. Knit 1 row from right side and decrease 9-9-9-13-9-13 stitches evenly = 103-111-115-123-135-147 stitches. Switch to circular needle size 4 mm. Then work in stocking stitch with 1 stitch in garter stitch in each side. REMEMBER THE KNITTING TENSION! When piece measures 34-35-36-37-38-39 cm, cast off 3-5-3-3-5-6 stitches for armholes at the beginning of the 2 next rows = 97-101-109-117-125-135 stitches. When piece measures 51-53-55-56-58-60 cm, cast off the middle 35-35-37-37-41-41 stitches for neck and finish each shoulder separately. Work in stocking stitch and cast off 1 stitch on next row from the neck = 30-32-35-39-41-46 stitches remain on shoulder. Cast off when piece measures 54-56-58-60-62-64 cm. Work the other shoulder the same way. RIGHT FRONT PIECE: Cast on 66-70-74-78-82-90 stitches on circular needle size 3 mm with DROPS Merino Extra Fine or DROPS Cotton Merino. Work first row as follows from wrong side: 1 stitch in garter stitch, purl until 5 stitches remain and finish with 5 band stitches in garter stitch. Work next row as follows from right side: 5 band stitches in garter stitch, A.1, * knit 2, purl 2 *, work from *-* until 1 stitch remains, finish with 1 stitch in garter stitch. Continue like this until rib measures 6 cm, remember BUTTONHOLES - see explanation above. Switch to circular needle size 4 mm. Work next row as follows from right side: 5 band stitches in garter stitch, A.2, stocking until 1 stitch remains while at the same time decreasing 5-5-7-7-5-7 stitches evenly over these stitches and finish with 1 stitch in garter stitch = 61-65-67-71-77-83 stitches. When A.2 has been worked 1 time vertically, there are 62-66-68-72-78-84 stitches on needle. Continue with A.3 over stitches in A.2. Repeat A.3 upwards. When piece measures 34-35-36-37-38-39 cm, cast off 3-5-3-3-5-6 stitches for armhole at the beginning of next row from wrong side = 59-61-65-69-73-78 stitches. When piece measures 48-49-50-52-53-55 cm, work as before over the first 23-23-24-24-26-26 stitches from right side, then slip these stitches on a thread for neck= 36-38-41-45-47-52 stitches on shoulder. Then work knit over knit and purl over purl, AT THE SAME TIME cast off for neck at the beginning of every row from right side as follows: Cast off 2 stitches 2 times and 1 stitch 2 times = 30-32-35-39-41-46 stitches. Continue in stocking stitch until piece measures 54-56-58-60-62-64 cm. Cast off. LEFT FRONT PIECE: Cast on 66-70-74-78-82-90 stitches on circular needle size 3 mm with DROPS Merino Extra Fine or DROPS Cotton Merino. Work first row as follows from wrong side: 5 band stitches in garter stitch, purl until 1 stitch remains and finish with 1 stitch in garter stitch. Work next row as follows from right side: 1 stitch in garter stitch, * purl 2, knit 2 *, repeat from *-* until 25 stitches remain, work A.4 and 5 band stitches in garter stitch. Continue the pattern like this until rib measures 6 cm. Switch to circular needle size 4 mm. Work next row as follows from right side: 1 stitch in garter stitch, stocking until 25 stitches remain while at the same time decreasing 5-5-7-7-5-7 stitches evenly over these stitches, work A.5 and 5 band stitches in garter stitch = 61-65-67-71-77-83 stitches. When A.5 has been worked 1 time vertically there are 62-66-68-72-78-84 stitches on needle. Continue with A.6 over stitches in A.5. Repeat A.6 upwards. When piece measures 34-35-36-37-38-39 cm, cast off 3-5-3-3-5-6 stitches for armhole at the beginning of next row from right side = 59-61-65-69-73-78 stitches. When piece measures 48-49-50-52-53-55 cm, work next row from right side as before until 23-23-24-24-26-26 stitches remain, slip the last 23-23-24-24-26-26 stitches on a thread for neck= 36-38-41-45-47-52 stitches on shoulder. Then work knit over knit and purl over purl, AT THE SAME TIME cast off for neck at the beginning of every row from wrong side as follows: Cast off 2 stitches 2 times and 1 stitch 2 times = 30-32-35-39-41-46 stitches. Continue in stocking stitch until piece measures 54-56-58-60-62-64 cm. Cast off. SLEEVES: Cast on 60-60-64-64-68-68 stitches on double pointed needle size 3 mm with DROPS Merino Extra Fine or DROPS Cotton Merino. Knit 1 round, then work rib (knit 2, purl 2). When piece measures 6 cm, switch to short circular needle or double pointed needles size 4 mm. Knit 1 round and decrease 8-6-8-6-8-4 stitches evenly = 52-54-56-58-60-64 stitches. Insert 1 marker thread at beginning of round = mid under sleeve. Work in stocking stitch in the round. When sleeve measures 8-10-9-7-11-10 cm, increase 1 stitch on each side of marker thread - read INCREASE TIP. Increase like this every 2½-2-2-2-1½-1½ cm 16-17-18-19-20-20 times in total = 84-88-92-96-100-104 stitches. When sleeve measures 49-48-48-47-45-43 cm, work sleeve cap back and forth (from mid under sleeve) on circular needle until finished measurements. Work until sleeve measures approx. 50-50-49-48-47-46 cm i.e. there is a vent of approx. 1-2-1-1-2-3 cm at the top of sleeve. Cast off. Work another sleeve the same way. ASSEMBLY: Sew the shoulder seams. Sew side seams. Sew sleeve cap to armhole. Then sew vent at the top of sleeve to bottom of armhole - see chart. Number of stitches must be divisible by 4 Work rib, begin from wrong side as follows: 5 band stitches in garter stitch, * purl 2, knit 2 *, work from *-* until 7 stitches remain, purl 2 and 5 band stitches in garter stitch. Continue like this until rib measures 3 cm. Cast off. Sew the buttons on to the left band. |
