How to pick up stitches along sides

In this DROPS video we show how you can pick up sts along the side of your work.

Hold the yarn as if you would knit. Put your needle through the holes inside your edge stitch. Wrap yarn around the needle, and pull through.

You could also use a crochet hook to grab the yarn, and then put the st on the needle. If you have worked your edge sts every row e.g in garter as on this piece, every hole represents 1 row.

If you intend to knit stockinette on your new sts, typically you pick up 3 sts for every 4 rows, garter 2 sts for every 3 rows and rib 1 st in each hole.

Bonjour Mme Bonhomme, elle sera comme sur la photo :) Lorsque vous avez mis les mailles des manches en attente, votre manche n'était pas terminée (pointillés dans le schéma), vous avez continué une petite partie de l'emmanchure en tricotant le dos/le devant séparément, c'est le long de cette partie que vous commencerez (par le bas = au niveau du marqueur placé à 12-13-14-15-16-17 cm depuis la division) à relever les mailles en remontant jusqu'à celles en attente, tricotez ensuite les mailles en attente et relevez les mailles jusqu'au marqueur de l'autre côté, le long des 12-13-14-15-16-17 cm. Liebe Frau Mitteregger, es sind 3 Maschen auf 4 Reihe glatt rechts (oder auch Bündchen/Rippenmuster) gestrickt, und nicht über die Randmaschen, also die Maschen fassen Sie dann auf, so daß Sie jeweils 3 Maschen haben für 4 Reihen (eine Masche können Sie immer zwischen dei beiden Randmaschen in Kettmaschen auffassen). Viel Spaß beim stricken!

Dag Maryse,

Dit staat meestal in het patroon aangegeven en het hangt ook af van de maat die je breit. Om dit voor jezelf uit te rekenen is de stekenverhouding een goede leidraad. Als je armsgat bijvoorbeeld rondom 40 cm meet en je hebt een steken verhouding van 17 steken is 10 cm in de breedte, dan zou je ongeveer (17x4=) 68 steken op moeten nemen.

Witaj Kasiu! Troszkę skorygowałam opis: trzeba nabrać nabrać 3 o. NA 4 rzędy, dokładnie jak na filmie: nabierasz 2 pierwsze oczko jedno za drugim (dziurka za dziurką z boku), następnie omijasz jedną dziurkę (1 rząd w robótce) i nabierasz oczko w kolejną dziurkę, itd. W ten sposób np. na 12 rzędów robótki będzie z brzegu nabranych 9 oczek. Powodzenia!

Bonjour Vigi, pour relever 2 m tous les 3 rangs, vous devez probablement procéder ainsi: *relevez 1 m dans chacun des 2 rangs suivants, sautez le rang suivant* et répétez de *-* - dans la vidéo, nous relevons 3 m le long de 4 rangs. Bon tricot!

Bonjour Mme Dubois, c'est bien ça, si vous n'avez pas le bon nombre de mailles après les avoir relevées, vous pouvez toujours ajuster au rang/tour suivant en augmentant ou en diminuant des mailles à intervalles réguliers. Bon tricot!

In this DROPS video, we demonstrate how to knit up stitches around an armhole for a split-sleeve. We begin by showing you how to use a crochet hook to knit up stitches and transfer them onto a knitting needle. Then, we continue by showing you how to work with the stitches using knitting needles. In this DROPS video we show how to knit up stitches around the neck to a jumper with a European shoulder, using a knitting needle or a crochet hook. Then follow the description in the pattern. There are many different ways to work a rib (e.g knit 1 / purl 1, knit 2 / purl 2, knit 1 twisted / 1 purl etc.). And you can work a single neck, double neck or a high neck. In this DROPS video we show how to knit up stitches to one sleeve, working short rows, decrease under the sleeve, increase stitches before the rib, switch to smaller needle and a little bit of the cast off (knit over knit, and purl over purl). Insert 1 marker on the top of armhole (NB: This is not where the stitches were knitted up for the front piece, but a few cm down on the front piece, this is the middle of the shoulder). Start in the middle of the new stitches cast on under sleeve and pick up the number of stitches it says in the pattern around the armhole – adjust so that there are the same number of stitches along armhole on each side of the marker. In this DROPS video we show how to knit up 1 stitch in each of the new stitches that was cast on under the sleeve. We knit 8 new stitches and put a marker (or a marker thread) in the middle of these stitches. In many patterns, you should decrease 1 stitch on each side of stitch of this marker (or marking thread).
