This cardigan slides down the shoulders, as the shoulder parts seem to stretch during movements, and the heavy long knit is pulling it down.

DECREASE TIP: Dec 1 st by K 2 sts tog. All dec are done from RS! ---------------------------------------------------------- JACKET: Worked back and forth in parts on circular needle and sewn tog when finished. To adjust length on jacket and sleeves work all parts top down. BACK PIECE: Beg with left shoulder at the back (when jacket is worn). LOOSELY cast on 18-19-21-22-24-25 sts on circular needle size 15 mm / US 19 with 2 strands off white. K 1 row from WS, K 1 row from RS. Put piece aside. Now work right shoulder at the back as follows: LOOSELY cast on 18-19-21-22-24-25 sts on circular needle size 15 mm / US 19 with 2 strands off white. K 1 row from WS and K 1 row from RS. K 1 row from WS and cast on 6-7-6-7-7-9 new sts at the end of this row for neck, then K the 18-19-21-22-24-25 sts from left shoulder = 42-45-48-51-55-59 sts on needle. Then work in GARTER ST and STRIPES BODY - see explanation above. REMEMBER THE KNITTING GAUGE When piece measures 16-17-18-19-20-21 cm / 6¼''-6¾''-7''-7½''-8''-8¼'' (measured flat), insert 1 marker in each side (marks armholes). When stripes have been worked, piece measures approx. 83-86-89-92-95-97 cm / 32¾''-33 7/8''-35''-36¼''-37 3/8''-38 ¼'' from shoulder - NOTE: Or adjust length to desired measurements. Piece will be longer than measurements in chart when the jacket is worn - see explanation under "Size". LOOSELY bind off with K from RS. RIGHT COLLAR + FRONT PIECE: LOOSELY cast on 5-6-5-6-6-7 sts on circular needle size 15 mm / US 19 with 2 strands off white. K 1 row from RS. Continue to work with short rows for collar as follows (1st row = WS): * K 3-4-3-4-4-5, turn piece, tighten yarn and K 3-4-3-4-4-5 from RS, then work 2 rows K back and forth over all sts *, repeat from *-* until collar measures approx. 6-6-6-6-6-7 cm / 2½"-2½"-2½"-2½"-2½"-2 3/4" on the inside (it measures approx. 12-12-12-12-12-14 cm / 4 3/4"-4 3/4"-4 3/4"-4 3/4"-4 3/4"-5½" on the outside). K 1 row from WS and cast on 18-19-21-22-24-25 new sts at the end this row for shoulder = 23-25-26-28-30-32 sts on needle. Work 1 ridge back and forth over all sts. Then work in garter st and stripes body as on back piece (yarn change will always happen in the side on front piece, not towards mid front). When piece measures 16-17-18-19-20-21 cm / 6¼''-6¾''-7''-7½''-8''-8¼'' (measured flat), insert 1 marker in the side as on back piece. When stripes have been worked, LOOSELY bind off with K from RS. LEFT COLLAR + FRONT PIECE: Cast on and work as right collar + front piece but reversed. I.e. work first row from WS. Beg short rows on collar from RS (not from WS) and cast on new sts for shoulder at the end of row from RS (not from WS). Yarn change will always happen in the side (not towards mid front), thus the stripes on left front piece will be as stripes on WS of right front piece. SLEEVE: LOOSELY cast on 22-24-25-26-28-29 sts on circular needle size 15 mm / US 19 with 1 strand off white and 1 strand beige (= 2 strands). Work in garter st and STRIPES SLEEVE - see explanation above. When piece measures 4 cm / 1½'', dec 1 st in each side - READ DECREASE TIP! Repeat dec in each side every 9-7-6-6-5-4 cm / 3½"-2 3/4"-2½"-2½"-2"-1½" a total of 4-5-5-5-6-6 times = 14-14-15-16-16-17 sts. When stripes have been worked, sleeve measures approx. 37-37-35-35-33-31 cm / 14½"-14½"-13½"-13½"-13"-12 1/4" (shorter measurements in the larger sizes because of wider shoulders). NOTE: Sleeve length can be adjusted - sleeve will be longer than measurements in chart when jacket is worn. LOOSELY bind off with K from RS. Make another sleeve the same way. ASSEMBLY: Assemble using 1 strand off white. Sew shoulder seams - make sure the seam is not tight. Sew sleeves in body between markers on front and back piece. Then sew underarm seams and side seams in one - NOTE: Sew in outer loops of edge sts to avoid a chunky seam, but leave approx. 30 cm / 11 3/4'' in each side for vents. Sew collar tog mid back, then sew collar to neckline at the back of neck but make sure to avoid a tight seam. |
