Felted DROPS slippers with squares in ”Nepal”.

MEASURING TIP: It is important to have the correct knitting gauge and to be exact when measuring so that the squares are quadratic. GARTER ST (back and forth on needle): K all rows. --------------------------------------------------------- SLIPPER: The slipper is worked in one long piece in garter st and sewn tog when finished. Read MEASURING TIP above! Cast on 16-18-20 sts on needle size 6 mm / US 10 with beige Nepal. Work in GARTER ST - see explanation above - for 10.5-11.2-12.5 cm / 4⅛"-4⅜"-4⅞" (= square 1), switch to light beige and work for 10.5-11.2-12.5 cm / 4⅛"-4⅜"-4⅞" (= square 2). REMEMBER THE GAUGE! Continue to work squares with beige and light beige alternately until a total of 6 squares have been worked. The piece now measures approx. 63-67.2-75 cm / 24¾"-26½-29½", bind off. Then knit up from RS 16-18-20 sts on the right side of square 2 with beige (= square 7). Work in garter st for 10.5-11.2-12.5 cm / 4⅛"-4⅜"-4⅞" and bind off. Knit up 16-18-20 sts on the left side of square 6 with light beige (= square 8). Work in garter st for 10.5-11.2-12.5 cm / 4⅛"-4⅜"-4⅞" and bind off. ASSEMBLY: Fold the slipper and sew nicely tog edge to edge as on Fig. 1. Fig. 2 shows how the squares are placed after assembly. CROCHET BORDER: Around edge on the slipper, work as follows with 2 strands Puddel on hook size 7mm/K/10½: 1 sc, * ch 3, skip approx. 1-1½ cm / ½", 1 sc *, repeat from *-* and finish with 1 sl st in 1st sc at beg of round. FELTING: Place the slippers in the washing machine with a detergent without enzymes and optical bleach. Wash warm at 40C/104F with normal spin but no pre-wash. After wash shape the slippers to the right size while still wet and leave to dry flat. At subsequent wash, wash the slippers at regular wool program. AFTER FELTING: If the piece is not felted enough and is too big: Wash the piece one more time in the washing machine while it is still wet add a terry towel that measures approx. 50 x 70 cm = 19¾" x 27½" - NOTE: Do not use a short program. If the piece has been felted too much and is too small: While the piece is still wet stretch it to the correct measurements, if the piece is dry, make sure to soak it first. Remember: All subsequent washes are as a normal wool garment. |
