I don't understand this part of the pattern. Dec 1 sts in side of back piece (i.e the opposite side to inc). At the same time bind off towards front . i don't know what in side of back means, or towards front. is the decrease and the bind off done on the same row at the beginning of the row? i have knit up to 14 1/2 ". don't know how to proceed. thanks for your help.

Dear Mrs Slaughter, you first increased on the left side of piece for the front piece (= end of row from RS), this means you will now decrease on the right side of piece for the back piece (beg of row from RS) while you will cast off at the beg of row from WS for the front piece. Happy knitting!

Ik vraag me af aan welke kant ik het afkanten moet doen. De meerderingen moesten aan de linkerkant. Linker of rechter kant?

Dag Jeannette,

Shoulder warmer: Knit back and forth on needle from sleeve to sleeve. Cast on 92-100-110 sts (incl 1 edge sts in each side) on needle size 8 mm [US 11] with Vivaldi. Work in stockinette stitch. Remember the knitting gauge! When piece measures 10 cm [4"] inc 1 sts in left side (= front) on every cm [⅜"] a total of 20 times = 112-120-130 sts. When piece measures 36 cm [14¼"] dec 1 sts in side of back piece (i.e the opposite side to inc). At the same time bind off towards front on every other row like this: 6 sts 5 times, 5 sts 4-4-5 times and 4 sts 4-5-5 times = 45-49-54 sts. When piece measures 61-64-67 cm [24"-25¼"-26⅜"] cast on new sts toward front on every other row like this: 4 sts 4-5-5 times, 5 sts 4-4-5 times and 6 sts 5 times - at the same time when piece measures 76-80-84 cm [30"-31½"-33"] cast on 1 new sts in side of back piece = 112-120-130 sts. When piece measures 82-86-90 cm [32¼"-33⅞"-35½"] dec 1 sts towards front on every cm [⅜"] a total of 20 times = 92-100-110 sts. Bind off when piece measures 112-116-120 cm [44"-45¾"-47¼"]. Assembly: Fold piece and sew tog along the broken lines shown on the measure chart. Cuffs: Pick up 88-96-104 sts on double pointed needles size 5 mm [US 8] with 2 threads Vivaldi around bottom edge on one of the sleeves. P1 row at the same time P all sts tog 2 by 2 = 44-48-52 sts. Change to 1 thread of each quality (2 threads) and work in rib: * K2, P2 * repeat *-*. When rib measures 8 cm [3"] bind off with K over K and P over P. Repeat around bottom edge on the other sleeve. Rib edge: Knit in the round on needle. Pick up 270-282-294 sts on circular needle size 5 mm [US 8] with 2 threads Vivaldi around opening of the shoulder warmer. P1 round at the same time dec 26 sts evenly distributed = 244-256-268 sts. Change to 1 thread of each quality (= 2 threads). Work in rib * K2, P2 * repeat *-*. When rib measures 4 cm [1½"] bind off loosely with K over K and P over P. |
