---------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATION FOR THE PATTERN: ---------------------------------------------------------- GARTER STITCH (when working back and forth): Knit on all rows, i.e. knit from right side and knit from wrong side. 1 ridge vertically = knit 2 rows. 3 EDGE STITCHES I-CORD: FIRST 3 STITCHES: Work as follows on every row: Slip 1 stitch purlwise with strand in front of piece, knit 1, slip 1 stitch purlwise with strand in front of piece. LAST 3 STITCHES: Work as follows on every row: Work until 3 stitches remain on needle, knit 1, slip 1 stitch purlwise with strand in front of piece, knit 1. MEASURING TIP: Because of the ridges and the weight of the yarn hold the piece up when doing length measurements to avoid that the piece is too long when worn. DECREASE TIP-1 (applies to the sides on front piece/back piece and armholes): BEGINNING OF ROW: Work 3 edge stitches as before, 2 stitches in garter stitch, slip 1 stitch knitwise, knit 1, pass slipped stitch over stitch worked. END OF ROW: Work as before until 7 stitches remain, knit 2 together, 2 stitches in garter stitch, and 3 edge stitches as before. DECREASE TIP-2 (applies to neck): BEGINNING OF ROW: Work 1 edge stitch in stockinette stitch, 2 stitches in garter stitch, slip 1 stitch knitwise, knit 1, pass slipped stitch over stitch worked. END OF ROW: Work as before until 5 stitches remain on row, knit 2 together, 2 stitches in garter stitch and 1 edge stitch in stockinette stitch. INCREASE TIP (applies to the sides on front piece/back piece): Work 3 edge stitches as before, work 2 stitches in garter stitch, make 1 yarn over, work in garter stitch until 5 stitches remain, make 1 yarn over, work 2 stitches in garter stitch and 3 edge stitches as before. On next row knit yarn overs twisted to avoid holes. Then work the new stitches in garter stitch. I-CORD BIND-OFF Slip the 3 new stitches from right needle to left needle so that working yarn is 3 stitches in on left needle (the working yarn tightens the piece when working to form a little tube). ROW 1 (= right side): Knit 2, knit the next 2 stitches twisted together. ROW 2 (= right side): Slip the 3 stitches from right needle back on left needle, knit 2, knit the next 2 stitches twisted together. Do not turn piece. Repeat ROW 2 until 3 stitches remain on right needle. Slip the 3 stitches from right needle back on left needle. Bind off. Sew a little stitch that binds beginning/end of I-cord together. ---------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ---------------------------------------------------------- TOP - SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE: Worked back and forth. Work back piece and front piece separately. Piece is worked bottom up and parts are sewn together. Finish by picking up stitches around the neck and bind off with I-cord. If 0 stitches is given for the chosen size, it means that you skip the information and jump to next information. BACK PIECE: Cast on 76-84-90-98-110-120 stitches on single pointed needles size 5 MM = US 8 with DROPS Paris. Work 3 EDGE STITCHES IN I-CORD - read explanation above, work in GARTER STITCH - read explanation above, until 3 stitches remain, finish with 3 edge stitches in I-cord. Continue back and forth like this. When piece measures 7 cm = 2¾" - read MEASURING TIP, decrease in each side - read DECREASE TIP-1 and decrease as follows: Decrease 1 stitch in each side every 3 cm = 1⅛" 3 times in total = 70-78-84-92-104-114 stitches. When sleeve measures 6-6-6-7-7-7 cm = 2⅜"-2⅜"-2⅜"-2¾"-2¾"-2¾" from last decrease, increase in each side – read INCREASE TIP and increase as follows: Increase 1 stitch in each side every 3-3-3½-4-4½-5 cm = 1⅛"-1⅛"-1¼"-1½"-1⅝"-2" 3 times in total = 76-84-90-98-110-120 stitches. Work until piece measures 30-31-32-33-34-35 cm = 11¾"-12¼"-12½"-13"-13⅜"-13¾" - remember MEASURING TIP. At the beginning of the next 2 rows bind off 4-6-8-8-10-10 stitches for armholes = 68-72-74-82-90-100 stitches. Work back and forth in garter stitch with 3 edge stitches in I-cord in each side as before. When 4-4-4-2-2-2 rows have been worked and next row is worked from right side, begin decrease for armholes – remember DECREASE TIP-1. In each side bind off stitches for armholes on every other row as follows: Decrease 1 stitch 0-0-0-2-4-7 times in each side. Then decrease stitches for armholes on every 4th row: 1 stitch 3-3-3-3-4-4 times in each side, and then on every 6th row: 1 stitch 2-3-3-3-2-2 times in each side = 58-60-62-66-70-74 stitches remain. When piece measures 45-47-49-51-53-55 cm = 17¾"-18½"-19¼"-20"-21"-21⅝" - remember MEASURING TIP, bind off the middle 26-26-26-28-28-28 stitches for neck, and finish each shoulder separately. SHOULDER: Work in garter stitch with 3 edge stitches in I-cord as before and 1 stitch in stockinette stitch towards the neck. When 3 or 4 rows have been worked and next row is worked from right side, decrease 1 stitch for neck – read DECREASE TIP-2 = 15-16-17-18-20-22 stitches remain on each shoulder. Bind off when piece measures 48-50-52-54-56-58 cm = 19"-19¾"-20½"-21¼"-22"-22¾" – remember MEASURING TIP. FRONT PIECE: Cast on the same number of stitches as on back piece, and work the same way as back piece until piece measures 42-43-44-46-47-48 cm = 16½"-17"-17¼"-18"-18½"-19" - remember MEASURING TIP. Now slip the middle 22-22-22-22-22-22 stitches on a thread for neck, and finish each shoulder separately. SHOULDER: Work in garter stitch with 3 edge stitches in I-cord as before and 1 stitch in stockinette stitch towards the neck. When 3 or 4 rows have been worked and next row is worked from right side, begin decrease for neck – remember DECREASE TIP-2 and decrease on every 2nd row as follows: Decrease 1 stitch 3-3-3-4-4-4 times = 15-16-17-18-20-22 stitches remain on each shoulder. Bind off when piece measures 48-50-52-54-56-58 cm = 19"-19¾"-20½"-21¼"-22"-22¾"– remember MEASURING TIP. ASSEMBLY: Sew shoulder seams inside bind-off edge. Sew side seams inside 1 stitch in each side so that only 2 I-cord stitches are visible in each side - begin seam at armhole and sew until a vent of approx. 5 cm = 2" remain at the bottom. NECK EDGE: Use circular needle size 4 MM = US 6, pick up stitches around the neck from right side as follows: Begin at one shoulder seam and pick up approx. 72 to 88 stitches (including stitches on thread mid front). At the end of round cast on 3 new stitches on right needle from right side, do not turn the piece. Switch to pointed needles size 5 MM = US 8 and work I-CORD BIND-OFF - see explanation above. |
