---------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATION FOR THE PATTERN: ---------------------------------------------------------- GARTER STITCH (back and forth): Knit all rows. 1 ridge vertically = knit 2 rows. PATTERN: See diagram A.1. Diagrams show all rows in pattern seen from the right side. INCREASE TIP-1: Increase 1 stitch inside 2 edge stitches in garter stitch, increase by making a yarn over, on next row (= wrong side) purl yarn over twisted to avoid holes. Work the increased stitches in stockinette stitch. INCREASE TIP-2 (evenly): To calculate how to increase evenly, use the total number of stitches on row (e.g. 59 stitches) and divide stitches by number of increases to be done (e.g. 6) = 9.8. In this example increase by making 1 yarn over after approx. every 10th stitch. On next row work yarn overs twisted to avoid holes. BIND-OFF TIP: To avoid a tight bind-off edge when binding off, you may use a larger needle. If this still is too tight make 1 yarn over after approx. every 6th stitch while binding off (bind off yarn overs as stitches). ---------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ---------------------------------------------------------- VEST: Work back piece and front piece from the top and down, back and forth on needle. Sew the piece together as explained in pattern. Finish with a high collar. BACK PIECE: Cast on 55-59-61-63-65-67 stitches on circular needle size 8 MM = US 11 with DROPS Snow. Work first row as follows from right side: 2 edge stitches in GARTER STITCH - read explanation above, work 6-8-9-10-11-12 stitches in stockinette stitch, A.1 (= 39 stitches), 6-8-9-10-11-12 stitches in stockinette stitch, 2 edge stitches in garter stitch. Continue this pattern until piece measures 18-18-17-18-17-16 cm = 7"-7"-6¾"-7"-6¾"-6¼". Now increase 1 stitch in each side inside 2 edge stitches in garter stitch - read INCREASE TIP-1. Increase like this every other row 1-2-3-3-5-6 times in total, piece now measures approx. 20-21-22-23-24-25 cm = 8"-8¼"-8¾"-9"-9½"-9¾", and there are 57-63-67-69-75-79 stitches on needle. At the end of the next 2 rows cast on 2-2-2-4-4-6 new stitches in each side = 61-67-71-77-83-91 stitches. Work 2 ridges over the outermost 4-4-4-6-6-8 stitches in each side, work the remaining stitches as before. When 2 ridges have been worked, work next row as follows – from right side: 2 edge stitches in garter stitch, work 9-12-14-17-20-24 stitches in stockinette stitch, A.1, 9-12-14-17-20-24 stitches in stockinette stitch, 2 edge stitches in garter stitch. Continue this pattern until piece measures 47-49-51-53-55-57 cm = 18½"-19¼"-20"-21"-21⅝"-22½" (= 27-28-29-30-31-32 cm = 10⅝"-11"-11⅜"-11¾"-12¼"-12½" from where new stitches were cast on in each side). Switch to circular needle size 7 MM = US 10.75. Knit 1 row from right side while increasing 6-6-6-8-8-8 stitches evenly - read INCREASE TIP-2 = 67-73-77-85-91-99 stitches. On next row (= from wrong side) work rib as follows: 2 stitches in garter stitch, * purl 1, knit 1 *, repeat from *-* until 3 stitches remain, purl 1 and 2 stitches in garter stitch. Continue rib for 5 cm = 2", bind off with knit over knit and purl over purl - read BIND-OFF TIP. Piece measures approx. 52-54-56-58-60-62 cm = 20½"-21¼"-22"-22¾"-23⅝"-24⅜" in total from shoulder. FRONT PIECE: Cast on and work the same way as back piece. ASSEMBLY: Sew shoulder seams, leave the middle 16-16-18-18-20-20 cm = 6¼"-6¼"-7"-7"-8"-8" for neck. Sew side seams in outer loops of edge stitches. HIGH COLLAR: Pick up approx. 54 to 64 stitches around the neck on a short circular needle size 7 MM = US 10.75 with DROPS Snow. (number of stitches must be divisible by 2). Work rib = knit 1/purl 1 for 10 cm = 4", then bind off with knit over knit and purl over purl - remember BIND-OFF TIP. |
