------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATIONS FOR THE PATTERN: ------------------------------------------------------- RIDGE/GARTER STITCH (worked back and forth): Knit all rows. 1 ridge = knit 2 rows. PATTERN: See diagrams A.1, A.2 and A.3. The diagrams show all rows in the pattern from the right side. Choose diagram for your size. INCREASE/DECREASE TIP (evenly spaced): To work out how to increase/decrease evenly, count the total number of stitches on needle (e.g. 112 stitches), minus bands (e.g. 8 stitches) and divide the remaining stitches by the number of increases/decreases to be made (e.g. 21) = 4.9. In this example, increase by making 1 yarn over after each 5th stitch. Do not increase on the bands. On the next row work the yarn overs twisted to avoid holes. When decreasing, knit together each 4th and 5th stitch. BUTTONHOLES: Work buttonholes on the right band (when the garment is worn). Work from the right side when there are 3 stitches left on the row as follows: Make 1 yarn over, knit 2 together and knit 1. On the next row (wrong side), knit the yarn over to leave a hole. The first buttonhole is worked when the yoke measures 1 cm = ⅜". The other 4-4-4-5-5-5 buttonholes are worked with approx. 9½-9½-10-10-10-10 cm = 3⅝"-3⅝"-4"-4"-4"-4" between each one. DECREASE TIP (for sleeves): Decrease 1 stitch on either side of the marker thread as follows: Work until there are 3 stitches left before the marker thread, knit 2 together, knit 2 (marker thread sits between these 2 stitches), slip 1 stitch as if to knit, knit 1 and pass the slipped stitch over the knitted stitch (2 stitches decreased). BINDING-OFF TIP: To avoid the bind-off edge being tight you can bind off with a larger size needle. If the edge is still tight, make 1 yarn over after approx. each 4th stitch at the same time as binding off; the yarn overs are bind off as normal stitches. ------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ------------------------------------------------------- JACKET – SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE. The neck and yoke are worked back and forth with circular needle, from mid front and top down. The yoke is divided for body and sleeves and the body continued back and forth with circular needle. The sleeves are worked in the round with double pointed needles/short circular needle. NECK: Cast on 63-69-69-75-75-81 stitches (including 4 band stitches on each side towards mid-front) with circular needle size 7 MM = US 10.75 and DROPS Wish. Purl 1 row (= wrong side). The next row is worked as follows from the right side: 4 band stitches in GARTER STITCH – read description above, * knit 1 twisted, purl 1 *, work from *-* until there are 5 stitches left, knit 1 twisted and 4 band stitches in garter stitch. Work as follows from the wrong side: 4 band stitches in garter stitch, * purl 1 twisted, knit 1 *, work from *-* until there are 5 stitches left, purl 1 twisted and 4 band stitches in garter stitch. Work this rib for 12 cm = 4¾". YOKE: Change to circular needle size 8 MM = US 11. Insert 1 marker at the beginning of the row after the band; the yoke is measured from this marker! Remember the BUTTONHOLES – read description above. Work as follows from the right side: 4 band stitches in garter stitch A.1 (= 7 stitches), A.2 over the next 42-48-48-54-54-60 stitches (= 7-8-8-9-9-10 repeats of 6 stitches), A.3 (= 6 stitches) and 4 band stitches in garter stitch. When A.1, A.2 and A.3 have been completed in height the piece measures approx. 21-21-21-25-25-25 cm = 8¼"-8¼"-8¼"-9¾"-9¾"-9¾" from the marker and there are 162-179-179-207-207-225 stitches. REMEMBER THE KNITTING GAUGE! Continue with stockinette stitch and the bands in garter stitch until the piece measures 21-23-24-26-28-30 cm = 8¼"-9"-9½"-10¼"-11"-11¾". Knit 1 row where you adjust the number of stitches to 160-176-192-200-220-236 stitches. Now divide for the body and sleeves on the next row as follows: Work the first 27-30-32-34-37-40 stitches (= front piece), place the next 30-32-36-36-40-42 stitches on a thread for the sleeve, cast on 6-6-6-8-8-8 stitches (= in side under sleeve), work 46-52-56-60-66-72 stitches (= back piece), place the next 30-32-36-36-40-42 stitches on a thread for the sleeve, cast on 6-6-6-8-8-8 stitches (= in side under sleeve), work the last 27-30-32-34-37-40 stitches (= front piece). The body and sleeves are finished separately. THE PIECE IS NOW MEASURED FROM HERE. BODY: = 112-124-132-144-156-168 stitches. Continue with stockinette stitch and 4 band stitches in garter stitch on each side for 25-25-26-26-26-26 cm = 9¾"-9¾"-10¼"-10¼"-10¼"-10¼". There is approx. 6 cm = 2⅜" left to finished length; try the jacket on and work to desired length. To avoid the following rib being tight, purl 1 row from the wrong side (bands knitted) where you increase 21-23-25-27-31-33 stitches evenly spaced – read INCREASE TIP = 133-147-157-171-187-201 stitches. Change to circular needle size 7 MM = US 10.75. The next row is worked as follows from the right side: 4 band stitches in garter stitch, * knit 1 twisted, purl 1 *, work from *-* until there are 5 stitches left, knit 1 and 4 band stitches in garter stitch. Work as follows from the wrong side: 4 band stitches in garter stitch, * purl 1 twisted, knit 1 *, work from *-* until there are 5 stitches left, purl 1 twisted and 4 band stitches in garter stitch. Work the rib for 6 cm = 2⅜". Bind off with knit over knit and purl over purl – read BINDING-OFF TIP. The jacket measures approx. 56-58-60-62-64-66 cm = 22"-22¾"-23⅝"-24⅜"-25¼"-26" from the shoulder down. SLEEVES: Place the 30-32-36-36-40-42 stitches from the thread on the one side of the piece on double pointed needles/short circular needle size 8 MM = US 11 and knit up 1 stitch in each of the 6-6-6-8-8-8 stitches cast on under the sleeve = 36-38-42-44-48-50 stitches. Insert a marker thread in the middle of the 6-6-8-8-10-12 stitches under the sleeve. Allow the thread to follow your work onwards; it will be used when decreasing under the sleeve. Start at the marker thread and work stockinette stitch in the round for 4 cm = 1½". Now decrease 1 stitch on each side of the marker thread – read DECREASE TIP. Decrease like this every 14-12-7-7-5-5 cm = 5½"-4¾"-2¾"-2¾"-2"-2" a total of 3-3-4-4-5-5 times = 30-32-34-36-38-40 stitches. Work until the sleeve measures 34-31-31-29-28-26 cm = 13⅜"-12¼"-12¼"-11⅜"-11"-10¼" from the division – approx. 6 cm = 2⅜" left to finished length; work to desired length. Now increase 8 stitches evenly = 38-40-42-44-46-48 stitches. Change to double pointed needles size 7 MM = US 10.75. Work rib (knit 1 twisted, purl 1) for 6 cm = 2⅜". Bind off with knit over knit and purl over purl – remember BINDING-OFF TIP. The sleeve measures approx. 40-37-37-35-34-32 cm = 15¾"-14½"-14½"-13¾"-13⅜"-12½". Work the other sleeve in the same way. |
