Hello, I would like to knit potholder 1, and according to the pattern I should cast on 74 or 114 stitches - while pattern M1 consists of 12 stitches. Neither 74 nor 114 is a whole number multiplication of 12. And I do not get the extra 1 - 2 - 1 (so altogether 4) off white stitches at the sides (stitch markers). Should not I just simply cast on a whole number multiplication of 12 stitches, like 72 for example?

Dear Mrs Ibolya, the potholder comes into 2 sizes: Small and large, cast on 74 sts for the small one and 114 sts for the large one (see header). Then work as follows: K1, repeat M.1 over the next 35-55 sts (= Small = 2 repeats of M.1 + the first 11 sts / large= 4 repeats of M.1 + the first 7 sts), K2, work M.1 over the next 35-55 sts as before and finish with K1. Happy knitting!
