Hi, I have now made both legs, back side only and put them on one needle, as the instructions say at the start of the back piece. But the threads from both legs are now in the middle, so I am not sure how to continue. Do I have to cut the threads from one of the legs and how do I continue with the threads on the other leg, since they are in the middle of the legs? thanks Iulia

Dear Iulia, when you leave the pieces on hold, you cut the yarn. When you pass both legs onto a circular needle, you start working the back from the side, join the yarn and work according to the pattern. Take into account that both legs need to be on the same side (right or wrong) and finish on the same row. Happy knitting!

Hi, re the back piece: If you start off with 44sts(for the smallest size 1-3 mths)and cast on new sts.for sleeve (2x1, 3x2, 4x3 and then only once 16 = 36 new sts), this adds up to 80sts at end of increase for sleeves. but, your pattern shows 116 sts as the total no. of sts. (?) Also, dont quite understand why on the last increase row 16 sts are only increased once, what about the other sleeve side? won't the sleeve then be asymmetrical if not increased on both sides? Pls clarify, thanks. mina
13.09.2013 - 17:46DROPS Design answered:
Dear Mina, these sts are cast on for sleeve at the end of every row, each side, so that you will have 36 new sts each side x 2 sides (2 sleeves)= 72 sts + 44 = 116 ssts. Happy knitting!

Garter sts: Knit all rows Buttonhole: Make buttonholes on right front edge from the right side as follows: bind off 3rd and 4th st from the edge, on next row cast on 2 new sts over the bind off sts. Make buttonholes as follows: Size 1/3 months: 25, 31, 38, 44 and 50 cm / 9¾",12¼",15",17¼" and 19¾" Size 6/9 months: 29, 37, 44, 52 and 59 cm / 11⅜",14½",17¼",20½" and 23¼" Size 12/18 months: 32, 41, 49, 58 and 66 cm / 12½",16⅛",19¼",22¾" and 26" Size 2 years: 37, 45, 53, 61, 69 and 77 cm / 14½",17¾",21",24",27⅛" and 30⅜" Size 3/4 years: 42, 51, 60, 68, 77 and 85 cm / 16½",20",23⅝",26¾",30⅜" and 33½" JUMPSUIT: Left leg, back: Cast on 17-19-20 (22-24) sts with 1 strand of each Alpaca color (= double strands) on needle size 5 mm / US 8. Work garter sts. When piece measures 8 cm / 3⅛" inc 1 st at right side of piece (= inner side of leg) on every 5-6-6 (8-8) row a total of 9-9-11 (12-12) times = 26-28-31 (33-36) sts. When piece measures 22-25-28 (33-38) cm / 8¾"-9¾"-11" (13"-15") bind off 4 sts on inner side of leg, i.e. at the same side where sts were increased earlier = 22-24-27 (29-32) sts. K 6 rows and then put sts on a holder. Right leg, back: Work as left leg but with inc and bind offs in the opposite side. Keep sts on needle. Back piece: Put legs in on the same needle with bind offs towards each other = 44-48-54 (58-64) sts. Continue in garter sts over all sts. When piece measures 46-54-61 (71-79) cm / 18"-21¼"-24" (28"-31") cast on new sts for sleeves at the end of each row, each side as follows: 2 sts 1-1-3 (1-1) times, 3 sts 2-2-2 (1-1) times, 4 sts 3-3-3 (6-7) times and then 16-17-17 (20-22) sts 1 time = 116-122-136 (156-174) sts on row. When piece measures 55-64-72 (83-92) cm / 21⅝"-25¼"-28⅜" (32¾"-36¼") bind off the middle 14-16-16 (18-18) sts for neck and work each side separately. Dec 1 st on neckline on next row = 50-52-59 (68-77) sts left on shoulder/sleeve. Bind off loosely when piece measures 57-66-74 (85-94) cm / 22½"-26"-29⅛" (33½"-37"). Left front piece: Cast on and work as described for left leg back, but instead of putting sts on holder cast on 3 new sts towards mid front for front band (i.e. at the same side where dec/inc were made earlier) = 25-27-30 (32-35) sts. Work garter sts but purl the 5 outermost sts towards mid front until finished measurements (= front band). This way the front edge will be accentuated. When piece measures 46-54-61 (71-79) cm / 18"-21¼"-24" (28"-31") cast on new sts at side for sleeve as described for back piece = 61-64-71 (81-90) sts. When piece measures 53-62-69 (80-88) cm / 21"-24⅜"-27⅛" (31½"-34⅝") bind off the outermost 5-6-6 (7-7) sts for neck. Continue and now bind off in beg of every row from neck: 2 sts 2 times and 1 st 2 times = 50-52-59 (68-77) sts left on shoulder/sleeve. When piece measures 57-66-74 (85-94) cm / 22½"-26"-29⅛" (33½"-37") bind off loosely. Right front piece : Cast on and work as left front piece, but mirrored. Remember to make buttonholes, see explanation above. Assembly: Pick up approx 40 to 55 sts round the neck with 1 strand of each color. K4 rows garter sts, at the same time after 1st row make buttonhole above the others on front band. Bind off from the wrong side. Sew shoulder + upper sleeve seams in outermost loop of sts to create a neat seam. Sew under-sleeve and side seams the same way. Sew inner leg seams. Sew the opening between the legs. Sew on buttons. Fold approx 4 cm / 1½" on each sleeve and each leg. SOFT TOYS: see pattern 13-25, 13-29 and 13-30 BLANKET: see pattern 14-19 |
