------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATIONS FOR THE PATTERN: ------------------------------------------------------- CHAIN STITCH: If you work outermost on the hook the chain stitch will often be too tight; 1 chain stitch should be as long as 1 single/double crochet is wide. PATTERN: See diagrams A.1 to A.6. The diagrams are read from right to left when working from the right side and left to right when working from the wrong side. CROCHET TIP: So the texture continues when working in the round, the piece is turned at the end of each round, working alternately from the right and wrong side. Each round ends with 1 slip stitch in the 3rd chain stitch from the beginning of the round before turning, so the round is "locked". DECREASE TIP: 2 double crochets worked together into 1 double crochet: * Make 1 yarn over, insert the hook through the next stitch and pick up the strand, make 1 yarn over and pull it through the first 2 loops on the hook *, work from *-* a total of 2 times (3 loops on hook), make 1 yarn over and pull it through all 3 loops on the hook (1 double crochet decreased). ------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ------------------------------------------------------- SUIT - SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE: The yoke is worked back and forth from mid front and top down, increasing for raglan. When the yoke is finished, it is divided for the body and sleeves and the body is continued back and forth until the opening mid-front is finished, then continued in the round working back and forth to maintain the textured-pattern. The piece is divided for the legs which are worked in the round, back and forth. The sleeves are worked in the round, back and forth. Stitches are picked up around the neck and the hood is worked back and forth from mid-front. 2 pom poms are made and fastened to each side of the hood. NECK: Work 55-55-59-63-67-71 CHAIN STITCHES – read explanation above, using crochet hook size 3.5 MM = US E/4 and DROPS Air. Work the first row as follows from the wrong side: A.1c in the 2nd chain stitch from the hook, A.1b in the next 8-8-9-10-10-11 chain stitches (= right front piece), work A.4 in the next 2 chain stitches (= raglan-stitches), A.1b in the next 8-8-8-8-10-10 chain stitches (= sleeve), A.4 in the next 2 chain stitches (= raglan-stitches), A.1b in the next 12-12-14-16-16-18 chain stitches (= back-piece), work A.4 in the next 2 chain stitches (= raglan-stitches), A.1b in the next 8-8-8-8-10-10 chain stitches (= sleeve), A.4 in the next 2 chain stitches (= raglan-stitches), A.1b in the next 8-8-9-10-10-11 chain stitches and A.1a in the last chain stitch (= left front piece), turn = 54-54-58-62-66-70 single crochets + 1 chain stitch at the beginning of the row. The chain stitches in A.4 mark the 4 raglan-lines. Insert 1 marker inside 6 stitches on one side (mid-front) without working the stitches; the piece is measured from here. YOKE: Work double crochets back and forth while increasing for raglan in each chain stitch (raglan-line) as follows: ROW 1 (right side): Work A.2a in the first stitch, * A.2b as far as the first/next chain stitch (= raglan-line), work the next row in A.4 around this chain stitch (= 1 double crochet + 1 chain stitch + 1 double crochet) *, work from *-* a total of 4 times, work A.2b until there is 1 stitch left on the row and A.2c in this last stitch = 8 increased double crochets (be careful when working the last double crochet on the row so the edge is even mid-front). ROW 2 (wrong side): Work A.2c in the first stitch, * A.2b as far as the first/next chain stitch (= raglan-line), work the next row in A.4 around this chain stitch (= 2 double crochets increased) *, work from *-* a total of 4 times, work A.2b until there is 1 stitch left on the row and A.2a in this last stitch = 8 increased double crochets. Repeat ROWS 1 and 2 until you have worked 10-12-13-14-15-15 rows of double crochets; see diagram A.5 which shows how to work the increased stitches. On the next row work 1 double crochet around the chain stitch in each raglan-line (between the double crochets in A.4) instead of 1 double crochet + 1 chain stitch + 1 double crochet. You have worked a total of 11-13-14-15-16-16 rows of double crochets; the yoke measures approx. 10-12-13-14-15-15 cm = 4"-4¾"-5⅛"-5½"-6"-6" from the marker. There are 138-154-166-178-190-194 double crochets on the row. Now divide for the body and sleeves. DIVIDE FOR BODY AND SLEEVES: When dividing, the raglan-stitches will be on the front and back pieces. Work as before across the first 23-25-27-29-31-32 stitches (= front piece), work 6-6-8-8-8-10 chain stitches (mid-under the sleeve), skip the next 26-30-32-34-36-36 double crochets (= sleeve), work as before across the next 40-44-48-52-56-58 double crochets (back piece), work 6-6-8-8-8-10 chain stitches (mid-under the sleeve), skip the next 26-30-32-34-36-36 double crochets (= sleeve), work as before across the last 23-25-27-29-31-32 double crochets (= front piece). The body and sleeves are finished separately. BODY: = 98-106-118-126-134-142 double crochets. Continue A.2 back and forth. NOTE: On the first row work 1 double crochet in each of the 6-6-8-8-8-10 chain stitches under each sleeve, then continue back and forth with double crochets in all stitches. Work until the piece measures 26-31-32-35-37-39 cm = 10¼"-12¼"-12½"-13¾"-14½"-15¼" from the marker mid-front (approx. 29-34-35-38-40-42 cm = 11⅜"-13⅜"-13¾"-15"-15¾"-16½" from the shoulder), with the next row from the right side. On the next row crochet the bands together and continue in the round – read CROCHET TIP, as follows: Cut the strand. The outermost 6 double crochets on each side are the bands which are now crocheted together: Lay the outermost 6 double crochets on the right front piece on top of the outermost 6 double crochets on the left front piece. Start with 1 slip stitch in the 6th double crochet so the round begins just before the band (work through both layers so the bands stay together), work A.3a in the same stitch as the slip stitch, then A.3b in each of the next 6 stitches (through both layers), work A.3b to end of round, finish the round with 1 slip stitch in the 3rd chain stitch from the beginning of the round = 92-100-112-120-128-136 double crochets. Turn, remember CROCHET TIP, and continue with alternate rounds from the right and wrong side. Work until the piece measures 30-36-38-41-44-47 cm = 11¾"-14¼"-15"-16⅛"-17¼"-18½" from the marker on the neck and 33-39-41-44-47-50 cm = 13"-15¼"-16⅛"-17¼"-18½"-19¾" from the shoulder (approx. 4-5-6-6-7-8 cm = 1½"-2"-2⅜"-2⅜"-2¾"-3⅛" after joining the bands) and with the next round from the right side. The piece is now divided for the legs which are finished separately. Cut the strand. DIVIDE FOR LEGS: Insert 2 markers without working the stitches as follows: Count 3 double crochets, insert marker-1 before the next stitch (= mid-front), count 46-50-56-60-64-68 double crochets (= left leg), insert marker-2 before the next stitch (= mid-back), there are 43-47-53-57-61-65 double crochets left on the round + 3 skipped stitches at the beginning of the round (= right leg). The legs are finished separately. RIGHT LEG: Start from the right side at the back of the suit with 1 slip stitch in the 3rd-3rd-3rd-4th-4th-4th double crochet after the marker mid-back, work A.3a in this stitch (= same stitch as the slip stitch), work A.3b across the next 41-45-51-53-57-61 double crochets, i.e., finishing 2-2-2-3-3-3 double crochets before the marker mid-front, finish the round with 1 slip stitch in the 3rd chain stitch at the beginning of the round = 42-46-52-54-58-62 double crochets. Continue A.3, working in the round alternately from the right and wrong side. AT THE SAME TIME after 1 round, insert 1 marker in the 3 chain stitches at the beginning of the round (= inside leg). On the next round, decrease 1 double crochet on each side of the marker – read DECREASE TIP. Decrease like this every 2nd round 3-3-4-4-4-4 times = 36-40-44-46-50-54 double crochets. Work until the leg measures 15-18-25-33-38-42 cm = 6"-7"-9¾"-13"-15"-16½" from the division, with the next round from the wrong side. Work 1 round of single crochets, i.e., A.6b in the first stitch, then A.6a to end of round, finishing the round with 1 slip stitch in the chain stitch at the beginning of the round. Cut and fasten the strand. Fold up the bottom 4-4-5-5-6-6 cm = 1½"-1½"-2"-2"-2⅜"-2⅜". LEFT LEG: Start from the right side at the front of the suit with 1 slip stitch in the 3rd-3rd-3rd-4th-4th-4th double crochet after the marker mid-front, work A.3a in the same stitch as the slip stitch, then A.3b across the next 41-45-51-53-57-61 double crochets, i.e., finishing 2-2-2-3-3-3 double crochets before the marker mid-back, finish the round with 1 slip stitch in the 3rd chain stitch at the beginning of the round, = 42-46-52-54-58-62 double crochets. Finish the leg in the same way as the right leg. SLEEVES: Start in the 4th-4th-5th-5th-5th-6th chain stitch mid-under the sleeve. Work 1 slip stitch in this stitch, then A.3a in the same stitch as the slip stitch, A.3b in each stitch to end of round and 1 slip stitch in the 3rd chain stitch at the beginning of the round = 32-36-40-42-44-46 double crochets. Continue A.3, working in the round alternately from the right and wrong side. AT THE SAME TIME after 1 round, insert 1 marker in the 3 chain stitches at the beginning of the round (= mid-under the sleeve). On the next round, decrease 1 double crochet on each side of the marker – remember DECREASE TIP. Decrease like this every 2nd round 1-1-3-3-4-4 times = 30-34-34-36-36-38 double crochets. Work until the sleeve measures 15-17-20-23-28-33 cm = 6"-6¾"-8"-9"-11"-13" from the division, with the next round from the wrong side. ASSEMBLY: Sew the opening between the legs, i.e., the front piece to the back piece, edge to edge with small stitches. Sew the buttons onto the left band between the 3rd and 4th double crochet from the edge. The buttons are buttoned between 2 double crochets on the right band. The top buttoned is positioned 1 cm = ⅜" from the top of the neck and the bottom button 4-5-5-5-5-6 cm = 1½"-2"-2"-2"-2"-2⅜" above where the bands were joined. The other 4-4-4-5-5-5 buttons are positioned evenly between these 2 buttons. HOOD: Start from the right side on the right front piece and work 1 slip stitch in the first stitch, A.2a in the same stitch then A.2b until there is 1 stitch left on the row, AT THE SAME TIME increase 10-12-12-12-12-12 double crochets across these stitches – read INCREASE TIP and work A.2c in the last stitch = 64-66-70-74-78-82 double crochets. Continue A.2 back and forth for 20-21-23-25-26-27 cm = 8"-8¼"-9"-9¾"-10¼"-10⅝". Cut the strand with a strand-end long enough to sew the hood together at the top. Sew edge to edge in the outermost loop of the outermost stitch so the seam is flat. POM POM: Make 2 pom poms, 5 cm = 2" in diameter. Sew 1 pom pom to each side of the hood, 9-9-10-10-11-11 cm = 3½"-3½"-4"-4"-4⅜"-4⅜" down on each side of the top seam and 6-6-7-7-8-8 cm = 2⅜"-2⅜"-2¾"-2¾"-3⅛"-3⅛" from the front edge. |
